Daimon thought he knew who he was when he rid himself of his Satanic heritage. Now? He has no idea who he has become.
Daimon Hellstrom, having gone through several personal difficulties recently, ends up wandering to a monastery run by a monk, Father Gosset, he confided in long ago.
Daimon says he needs to figure out who he is. He has turned away from his demonic heritage, but doesn't know who he is as a man.
Gosset agrees to let Daimon to stay and get through his identity issues. Daimon soon meets another similar soul, Brother Joshua. Joshua lost his memory and has been staying with the monks to gain his own sense of a new identity. They begin to bond with each other.
Meanwhile, back at the stately Defenders' manor, Patsy Walker is having nightmares about Daimon being in danger. The rest of the Defenders think she's overreacting, and continue about their lives, including a workout in a local gym where they wow the non-powered other members. Finally Overmind tries to delve into Patsy's mind and discover the truth; the effort creates enough psychic feedback to knock "him" back but leads them to discover Daimon's location.
At the monastery, Daimon tries to come to a love of God, but is distracted by a light that leads him down to Brother Joshua, who is exuding strange energies that he cannot control. Daimon, sympathetic, agrees to keep his mysterious mystical problems a secret.
However, when Joshua undergoes the ceremony to become a full monk the next day, the concentrated faith energy returns his memories to him: he is the Miracle Man, who the Cheemuzwa Indians made amnesiatic after his last attempt to rule the world. He starts to torture the monks.
Daimon tries to help him as a kindred spirit tempted by evil, but the Miracle Man defeats him and absorbs his Darksoul.
