Four Guys Proposition A Young boy

A young man named Tim Hunter is riding his skateboard on the streets of London. He runs into four guys who say they can show him things that he could not imagine. The fantasy part comes from the fact that the kid doesn't run off to find help against the four perverts in trenhcoats. Instead, he hangs out and talks with them.
That is quite a good thing since it leads to this book. Tim goes with the Phantom Stranger into the past. There he is shown the history of magic, and is introduced to some of DCs bigger and older heavy hitters in the magic world. This is Gaimen at top form. Both Tim Hunter and The Phantom Stranger are well drawn characters, and their advcentures through time makes for a quick page turner. The art is bordering on obvious comic art and photo realistic paintings. At the end of the book you realise that this is not only a great chapter one, but a great stand alone story also.
