The official Facebook page for THE AMAZING SPIDER-MAN just confirmed that director Marc Webb will return for the sequel. To no one's surprise, the film was a financial success and raked in just over $750 million globally.  Fans had mixed reactions, but I had a blast with it and G-Man also gave it a rave review.  Doug Belgrad, the President of Columbia Pictures, released a statement about the franchise's future:

“We could not be more confident in the direction we are taking this new Spider-Man storyline and we are tremendously excited to be ramping up production again with Marc at the helm and Andrew continuing on as Peter Parker,”

Are you happy Webb is pulling the strings behind Peter's life again or would you have wanted Columbia Pictures to pick someone else?  And if so, who?  Finally, feel free to endlessly speculate about the mid-credits scene and what you want to see in the follow-up!

The untitled sequel has a release date of May 2, 2014.

I feel neutral about this. I liked The Amazing Spider-man but at the same time, there were a lot of plot holes.

@DarkKnightDetective: It's my understanding the studio trimmed a lot of extra content from the film.  Hopefully that'll be on the blu-ray/DVD and help clear some things up.

Honestly, i'm good with this. I love Garfield as Peter Parker, and Marc Webb seems to have a good grasp on Spider-Man.

On thoughts for ASM2, i want them to kill off Gwen Stacy, and yet, i don't want Green Goblin in the movies just yet, which is kinda contradictory. Personally, i wanna see Normand and Harry in ASM2, and perhaps.... Venom as the villain? or Electro. Or the Sinister Six....

i was really disapointed in the film. the origin was destroyed and spiderman was soft. captain stacy had to save him from lizard. aunt may was awful. i hope they stop raping the story and just have spidey tear it up

The Amazing Spider-Man was basically just a collection of scenes from the original Spider-Man movie, except done worse. Uncle Ben's death and peter's reaction to it wasn't handled as well, the line that Uncle Ben said to Peter that was supposed to be "with great power, comes great responsibility" was just a convoluted and awkward rephrasing. The villain talked to himself for some reason, but this wasn't done as well as the scenes with Norman Osborn in the original. The movie ends on the same note with Peter telling his girl they can't be together, except this moment was more dramatic in the original and made a lot more sense.

I certainly hope that the second film is better, but to be honest the first film shouldn't have existed at all. Retelling Spider-Man's original and basically having the exact same plot, beat for beat, as the original film was unnecessary and boring. They probably would've been better served using whatever their idea is for this sequel as the premise of the original movie. A movie should never be made just to get the origin story out of the way and set-up a sequel, and that's what The Amazing Spider-Man really felt like.

F###in' loved The Amazing Spider-Man, so I am completely excited for the sequel. 2014 is shaping up to be yet another awesome year for comic book movies!

Here's to hoping we get to see Norman, Harry, or MJ.

I really liked The Amazing Spider-Man, and whilst I think that the Raimi movies do have their merits, I much preferred ASM for actually changing things and trying to tread new ground rather than just copying the Raimi movies.

I don't think Gwen should die in the second one. She should die in the 3rd and that's when Green Goblin should show up. As for the second one, introduce Mary Jane, spark up a love triangle, and for the villain, use Scorpion or Chameleon.

Yay. More scenes of emo Garfield awkwardly taking off or losing his mask so mainstream audiences can gush over the glamor shots. *Sigh*

The Spider-Man mask is a privilege to wear! Keep it on!!!

That's great news. He did a great job, despite Sony's terrible marketing scheme and their need to mess with the final cut.

When I first saw the trailer at one of last year's summer films, I was pretty skeptical on it. But here's the thing: I actually went to see Green Lantern. I thought it wouldn't be that bad. And the reason I went to see it in the first place was because I actually had no wish to go see X-Men: First Class.

I highly regret this decision, since GL was terrible, and then I watched XMFC on cable for the first time and was pleasantly surprised.

So I decided to take what I learned and give TASM a chance, and I loved it. So I'm actually looking forward to the sequel. Garfield's Spidey was awesome, and I actually really liked Emma Stone as Gwen Stacy; I felt she contributed a lot more and was much more interesting than MJ in the first three films.

Fine by me really...the story was competent in ASM in my opinion and I rather enjoyed it. Of course...the picture with the words below do make me think he has a grave decision to make...to kill Gwen or not to kill Gwen...that is the question...

Why would we want Green Goblin in the next movie? It's like always having Lex Luthor in all of the Superman movies. Spidey has a HUGE rogues gallery that could and should be used. And I feel that Venom and/or Carnage should not be introduced at all, especially if they keep Peter in high school for the next one.

Emma Stone made a great Gwen so I hope they don't try to kill her off, just because. Put her in peril, sure. Have Spider-Man rescue her at the last minute, sure. But kill her off? Nah! Too soon. I hope they get JJJ in the next one though.

Happy to hear. I think it this one (2) it's going to meet Mary Jane, Gwen is going to die and by the third one he's going be with Mary Jane :D

@fatcowmoomoo: After three movies straight of "with great power comes great responsibility," Toby McGuire's awkward constipation face, the not so hot chick playing the supposed to be very hot Marry Jane, and that same old boring red and blue suit that ol' web head's been wearing since the character's creation you have a problem with trying something new and exciting that actually draws a crowd? I disagree with your opinion, I respect it, but I disagree good cow.

Personally I liked the new spider-man way better than the old ones. This spider-man is funnier, better showcased with all the different types of webs, and at least this spider-man won't sell his marriage to Mephisto (Joe Quesada).

Also personally i feel that almost all origin movies are snoozers for the first few minutes but that's only because I read the origin comics.

I just really want Peter to be less of a d*ck in this next one. I love the original three (they got me into comic books), especially Peter Parker's portrayal in them. In these movie, Peter just seems like a jerk who goes back on his word. Not saying Raimi's Spiderman didn't do some stupid stuff, but I feel like there was more reason for what he did. Fingers crossed for better sequel.
