Old Tale, New Character
See what I did there?
So the story starts out just like the original: A high school teenager goes on a field trip to a lab. Next thing you know, he is given amazing powers…and it’s all Peter Parker’s fault. Young Andy Maguire (I see what you did there Slott) is blasted with super powered rays from Peter Parker’s botched experiment, becoming very powerful or as the smartest heroes of the Marvel Universe refer to him as and Alpha Omega power level. Andy becomes everything Peter could have been in his past, a popular young superhero. He however lacks the proper ethics and training to actually be a superhero, and that’s where Spider-Man comes in. Spidey decides to take him under his wing and teach him the ways of being a superhero, but Alpha’s cocky personality and growing power proves to be a problem. Meanwhile, the Jackal monitors Alpha’s activity from a distance.
The writing was not the bad, and neither was the artwork. I found this issue a nice new take on the Spider-Man mythos and I can’t wait to see how Alpha’s journey progresses even after the series comes to an end.
*Note* Stealing the Thing's trademark quote was a bit too far, but hilarious nevertheless.
