    Beware The Moobs 1

The first appearance of Doctor Octapuss, the only villain to defeat Spiderman, while sporting Man-boobs. Over all I like this book. The art is top notch for the time. Stan Lee does have a flair for the dramatic prose " You dare to challenge me, the great Dr. Octapus" yet it flows and for some reason works. Even though my brain is yelling at me about how cheesy the dialogue is. Once again, a villain is able to take a punch from Spiderman even though he has no physical super power. Oh, also somet...

    Doc Ock!!!! 0

This one introduces one of spideys greatest villain of all time, In the cover you see a menacing Doctor Octopus holding Spider-Man limb by limb looking like he is ready to take him apart. The story inside is actually not too far from this whole impression as he is the first to ever actually defeat spider-man. Doctor Otto Octavius works at the Atomic Research Center on the outskirts of town and is the most intelligent researcher in that country. He is also nicknamed "Doctor Octopus" for reason th...

Eight Arms of Sheer Ass Kicking Awesomeness!!! 5

By The Angry Comic Book Critic       Spider-man god I love him. He's one of the best character's ever to grace the pages of comics and despite all the ups and downs he's had over the years his book still is going strong. Now as most of us know until this issue of Spider-man his villains were....lets face it guys the rent-a-cops at the mall could handle I mean one was just a petty street thug, the other master of disguise and the last just an old man in a bird suite so all in all not that impress...

    The First "Heavyweight" Villain 1

The cover: 4 stars A good cover spoiled by my pet hate in comic books, the dreaded word balloon. They disappeared around the end of 1963 and didn’t really re-appear until early 1970. I always felt that they diminished the artist’s power to entice the reader into buying the comic based on pure imagery. Spidey is being held helpless by 4 mechanical arms attached to a shadowy, menacing figure so why do we need a word balloon stating exactly what we can see for ourselves. It’s nowhere near as good a...

    Spidey's Big Education 0

Ok So everyone knows this issue. It's the first of Doc Ock. I truley believe he's tops in Spidey's enemies list. We see Doc Ock get injured. Somehow his brain is damaged due to radiation(huh) . I think something else and I don't think anyone else has theorized it but I'm betting Doc is  and doesn't know he's bipolar. So of course J.J.Jameson needs photos for The Daily Bugle (no mention of NOW Magazine) get with it Stan. Spidey get's noticed by Doc who "defeats" him  Only to have Peter kinda get ...

Two months on and we get another certified classic. Sure, I've panned other "classics" so far (most notably Fantastic Four #1), but my number one priority in reviewing these oldies is not just to reward significance, but overall storytelling quality. The thing with these classics though is that much of the narratives are stilted and work on a very basic comic book level as a result of Stan and company still struggling to find their own voice. With The Amazing Spider-Man however, now three issues...

The First Really Good Spider-Man Story 0

Part of CV's Top 100 Spider-Man Universe Stories - reviewed!Prior to this, Spider-Man appeared in Amazing Fantasy, Fantastic Four Annual, and two previous isssues of The Amazing Spider-Man. The trouble was, he still hadn't fought a villain worth his salt. The Chameleon? The Vulture? The Tinkerer? That changed with this issue. Instead of two short stories, we get an entire comic book length tale that introduces Spider-Man's first real challenge - Doctor Octopus. And Doc Ock really does feel like a...

    Doc Ock Rocks NYC 0

I had a goofy smile on my face at the end of this comic and at the end of the day you can’t ask for much more than that. That’s the power of a great comic, it can tell a tale of remarkable human character, as the forces of good and evil vie for supremacy, and all in 20 pages. I knew I was in for a treat as soon as I saw the cover, as this issue features the first appearance of Doctor Octopus one of Spider-Man’s greatest and most memorable foes. This is a book which shows that gr...
