While promoting his latest film (Pain & Gain), Michael Bay (who is producing TMNT, not directing it) was asked by moviefone about the alien rumors surrounding TMNT's reboot. He previously made a remark about extraterrestrials, and while everyone jumped to conclusions this meant a planet full of alien Turtles (understandable so, of course), Bay says that's entirely false.

"There was that quote saying that we’re making [the Ninja Turtles as] aliens. We’re not. It’s the ooze! It’s from the original source material. These are from the original writers, and I never went out to correct myself in the press. I do listen to the fans and I do want this to be authentic. I think they’re going to be really happy with this movie. When I see the digital stuff, the turtles look great."

This is what Ispeculated a long time ago, people! The ooze is technically alien, so I was really, really, reaaaaally hoping he just chose his words poorly, implying they're mutated by alien technology, therefore being part alien. Thankfully, it looks like that's exactly the case and, as far as we can tell, their origin will be heavily inspired by Kevin Eastman and Peter Laird's original creation.

Where the story will go from there... well, only time will tell. However, it's fair to assume it involves General Krang since the plot allegedly deals with an alien invasion. I know there's still outcry over the leak script, but keep in mind, they've been claiming that's nothing like the final product, the film underwent a rewrite and they changed the title from Ninja Turtles to Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles. Now, I'm not saying this film will be fantastic or anything, but it looks like concern over the plot can be put at ease for now. Directed by Jonathan Liebesman, Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles is scheduled to hit theaters June 6, 2014.

Kinda reminds me of Transformers. The more I update different parts of the wiki the more I see parts of the movie were pulled from the comic source. Guess everyone remembers the cartoons and forget the comics sometimes. Not to say the movies could have been beter in certain aspects, but then again I enjoy a good "popcorn" movie.

This movie was pretty much DOA to me from the moment I heard Michael Bay being attached. Megan Fox as April doesn't help matters in the slightest.

Really? Because he went pretty far out of his way to try and defend this idea when he commented earlier on the fan backlash to the whole "aliens" idea. This whole Bay correction is pretty much in contrast to his earlier defense of his previous statements. If really was what was intended, why did it take him so long to make this new correction?

Maybe about six months have passed since then. The series was in early enough per-production at the time. Odds are better that the heat was getting too much and needed time to correct his own mistake with the script.

this doesn't make Michael Bay not Michael Bay, and this doesn't make Megan Fox not cast in the film.

yeah i read the original article i really dont get how people misquoted him unless they were so filled with fan rage they only saw the word alien. i always took it as the krang would be from another planet versus another dimension. i dont know about the original comic but in the current idw book they are from another dimension not planet. and oh michael bay isnt directing he's producing, another lie the fan rage created. at least get the name right of the guy you supposed to be mad at

im sure the movie will be a delight for the mass audience who don't read books. for me however I will not care about the movie the slightest. I will however be reading the current ongoing series which is and will be 1000x better than what Michael Bay and his film making posse can ever hope to put out.

I am slightly relieved and even though he's only producing it I won't hold my breath. This article did remind me to go to BestBuy (WorstBuy as I call it) and get one of the TMNT movies on blu ray for $5.

I gotta see a trailer before I pass judgement. I'm only surprised no one on Comicvine has gotten on the topic that Kevin Conroy won't be voicing Batman for Arkham Origins! This is huge!

The funny thing I noticed about the Alien freak out was that most of the people screaming about the changes were unaware of the actual original source material, like the fact that if they followed their original comic run the movie would be R rated

Part of me felt some of the rage came from people thinking Bay was the director. That is how many of the media outlets put it "Bay's Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles". It didn't help either some of the moves that were being rumored were pages out of how he dealt with Transformers. I hope this movie does well, but until I see footage I am going to remain cautious.

I'm just glad they cleared it up because they were losing fans before the movie even came out yet, at least this gets some of them back. Even though Megan Fox is still in the movie

glad we got that straightened out - but a little bothered by Jonathan Liebesman's resume of some pretty lousy movies. another sign that Bay will have too much influence on the final product. he is truly hell bent on exploiting fan boys and ruining our childhood heroes for the sake of another fat, undeserved paycheck

I dislike complaining but this isn't news. I feel like we've established for a while now that the turtles will not be aliens. I didn't really learn anything here. I did not discover any real film plot information. oh well

They haven't specifically stated the Turtles are not aliens until now. They've danced around that, saying everything from "don't worry, it'll be true to the comic!" to "We'll be really surprised by how good it is" to "that old script saw the Shredder!" They never put to ease the concern of a planet full of "Turtles." Now we finally have Bay retracting that statement. For me, it's not a big deal because I've always speculated/hoped he was talking about the ooze, but it's a huge deal to a lot of people and him finally clarifying this is indeed important to them.

I must be in minor group but as a fan of TMNT, I am really looking forward to the next installment of the movie! Felt like we really need it.

I don't think you're in the minority.....most people are just looking for any excuse to complain and a bandwagon starts rolling and everybody wants on without knowing why.

I;m with you and can't wait to see this new adaptation. Special effects today could really do it justice, and I'll hold off judgement until at least a trailer comes out.

I'm going to lose track of all this TMNT stuff. There are (as of now) 4 tv shows, the first trilogy, the CGI film that had Mako, that one Turtles Forever thing and now this. Plus the latest show is still ongoing, do we need this much TMNTs at once?

I have nothing against Megan Fox like most people do.

However, I do not believe she fits the character of April.

To me...April's character is more of a Jenna Fischer (Office) or Amy Adams (Man of Steel) type of character.

WHAT?! NO! He is Batman. Batman won't be the same without that voice. Kind of like The Joker isn't the same without Mark Hamill. But I guess Kevin is getting up there in years and this is origins, but still. He is Batman. And we'll see about TMNT. Hopefully we can get a live action that lives up the the original and the cartoon series.

He clearly knows what he is doing. He is pre-hyping the pre-hype.

Look how excited he has people for the Turtles being something they should have been to begin with.

Now he's saying that they will not be aliens...and will be made from the ooze...like they should be...which has people really excited for the movie.
