@winter_kills: Couldn't of said it better myself :) I share the same disappointments Cyclops fans had when the leadership role was shafted from him and given to Wolverine. My favorite Leo incarnations are the comic book and cartoon(specifically the 2003 and 2012 cartoons) versions. I can only dream, but I wish they go the IDW "Dark Leo" route for the character in the Nickelodeon cartoon.
Speaking of Captain America, Joss Whedon had moments where he used him poorly in the Avengers. What a great idea to have Cap simply just hang onto the Helicarrier the entire time, during the infiltration scene. Thank God for Winter Soldier!
Yeah, me too! The movies first made Cyke look like a total flake, then unceremoniously killed him off in X3, and I was like "What the Hell?" They wanted to make Wolverine the center of the X-Men universe because of his attitude & popularity- but sorry everybody, Wolverine isn't a leader. We share the same view- those are my fave versions of Leo too, they really get him & give him a lot of respect and in the case of the shows screen time. Heck yeah,, it'd be cool if they did explore the "Dark Leo" idea- I'd be all for it. I thought at first they were going to be doing something like it with the Karai subplot in the Nick show, but they didn't- but that doesn't mean they won't at some point in the future. Regardless, so far IDW, Nick & the 2003 show have done right by Leo, if only the movies would follow suit.
And I totally agree with you on Whedon's use of Cap in the Avengers! I mean, I love the Avengers- it's one of my favorite comic films of all time(though Winter Soldier blew it out of the water for me), but Cap was definitely underused. I think Whedon underestimates his abilities because he's not "super-powered", and just looks at him from the leadership standpoint- he's forgetting what makes Cap great is that yes, he's a great leader, but he's America's freakin' super-soldier- and that he is also an underdog- constantly facing insurmountable odds and opponents far more powerful than himself- and coming out on top because of his sheer guts, skill, tactics & heart. And still being able to hold a team as chaotic as the Avengers together, and all the teams of the MU on more than one occasion, like the Secret Wars. (Some recent comic portrayals of Cap beyond the works of the great Ed Brubaker have pissed me off in their mischaracterization and underutilization of Cap too.) I agree with you- in that Helicarrier scene he should've been going through kicking all kinds of ass, with and without his shield, fighting hand-to-hand and using anything he could get his hands on, guns, knives etc. That's Cap. But like you said, Thank God for the Winter Soldier! Amen to that, brother! They captured everything that makes Cap great- not just in ass-kicking(and they showed lots of ass-kicking!!), but in his character as well. Can't wait for Captain America 3! (I feel like maybe I'll enjoy it more than Avengers: Age of Ultron, I dunno.) Cap, Leo & Cyke are definitely kindred spirits and I'll stand up for all three of them to the bitter end.
