Curse Your Sudden But Inevitable Betrayal !!
Covers don't lie, and it looks like Shredder and the Krang are going to make a deal, to take over the world. These are two of the turtles' most infamous villains, and to see them come together and have tea, was hilarious. Okay, they didn't have tea, but I sketched it in, because I have a short attention span. But never the less, Shredder has summoned Krang to form some kind of ...ultimate alliance ... of villains! This comic series has made several changes to the Shredder character, but I have to say, I am a fan of all of them. In this incarnation, Shredder and Splinter where both Ninja Masters of the Foot Clan in feudal Japan. The Foot were not evil at this time, but Shredder wanted to use his army for conquest. This is a great new take as it makes the Shredder/Splinter conflict that much better as they are old adversaries... that and Shredder beheaded Splinter's kids ... o childhood memories!
Now you're asking yourself ... how is Shredder alive in 2014? how does he know the Krang? And why do Villains only ever bring two henchmen? I mean, was it take your henchmen to work day or something? To answer the other questions that I asked myself, with no help from you, Shredder and the Krang have meet before, back in ancient New York ... I mean Japan. In fact, the famous ooze is what has kept Shredder so spry for a white guy. It's very cool to develop the villains and really spend some time with them. The writers use this time for each villain to explain their goals and get inside their heads a bit. It does come off a little like exposition for most of the comic, but you do get a good bit of tension as both villains begin to understand that ..surprise! Villains don't want to share the world and will fucking betray you.
Let's just say things escalate and everyone tries to kill each other.. fair? It's always a blast to see Shredder with a sword, making sushi out of bitches, and the comic ends with a bang. Only at the end do you realize there were no turtles in the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles comic. That is not necessarily a bad thing, but that does mean you have to wait another month to get your fix. Since the plot to the TMNT movie was just below porn ... I would say check out the animated cartoon, as it's actually really good. This series has been fantastic too, however, the last two issues have just focused on villains and built up, so I just hope the next issue gets the gang back together.
