I just finish The Legend of Korra and thought; Storm needs to fight like that. I haven't read her new solo issues yet, but most often her defensive and offensive combat moves are wind gusts and lightening strikes. After being a Wakandan Queen I'm sure she's learned enough martial arts. She does show some elemental combat in games (X-men Legends and MUA). I think it'd cool to see her fight more like a bender in the comics and tv shows.
Storm
Character » Storm appears in 10181 issues.
Born to an American photo journalist and Kenyan princess, Ororo Munroe is one of the most recognizabe superheroines in the Marvel Universe. Using her unique ability to see and manipulate natural energy patterns of the universe to summon any type of weather phenomenon she desires in the blink of an eye, she is called Storm.
Wouldn't it be cool if Storm fought like the Avatar (TLOK)?
Do you mean in just close quarter combat/H2H only? Or are you stating she should use her powers like they do in general?
If Storm used her powers like that it would take to long to do. All those hand movements she could just do a mental lightning bolt attack with ease.
Probably.
Although it is a lot easier to mentally will a lightning bolt, tornado, hurricane or blizzard into existence.
Storm's mutant abilities >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>Avatar style bending.
Agreed.
I wouldn't mind seeing Storm use her elemental abilities to boost her H2H more often (lightning claws, solid ice covered fists, etc...more thunderclap punches and wind kicks), but Storm is considerably more powerful than anyone in the LOK of AVLAB shows.
@thunderbolt30: speaking of lightning claws!! I waited soooooo long for those but never got them :/. Ugh!!
It would be cool if she made her powers do some of the things we see in avatar. Like blood bending, using a dome of air to block energy projectiles. Not all the movements though.
It wouldn't be a hindrance, Storm might have more raw power than most if not all Avatar characters, but incorporating fighting styles and utilising her powers in a more versatile manner. I wouldn't want her to be like that though really, Storm isn't supposed to be a martial artist.
@maaask12: look weaker? It wouldn't be a problem mixing powers with h2h, but looking weaker?
@malachi_munroe: true
look weaker? It wouldn't be a problem mixing powers with h2h, but looking weaker?
Right. I don't think it would necessarily make Storm look weaker.
For example when she fought Gahran in Storm #5 or when she fought BP AvX Vs #5 (both cases where the odds were against her in a CQC fight) those were prime opportunities where lightning claws, thunderclap punches, wind kicks, ice-tipped claws, freeze touch, etc. could have been leveraged. Though I was pleased to see her knock Gahran's a$$ out with that compact whirlwind.
Being a skilled hand to hand fighter who engages in CQC fights often enough I think visually it could be pretty bad-a$$ to see Storm do this on panel (more often since it has been some years since she last did it). She would still retain her overall level of power (could still trounce avatar-verse characters) but gets an opportunity to demonstrate her versatility and creativity in H2H.
@thunderbolt30: agreed with all the above
Storm's mutant abilities >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>Avatar style bending.
I agree.
@thunderbolt30: Both, I think they should show more of her fighting capabilities. A lot of the time she's just suspended in the air doing ground strikes.
I have to say... no. Because Storm is cool in her own way in that she doesn't need to move in order for her powers to work.
@sprior93: .. Put her in a hot tub with Betsy and Callisto and she might be.
