Let's face it they only gave the role To shaq because he was Hot that year.
Steel
Character » Steel appears in 955 issues.
Inspired by Superman, John Henry Irons mimicked his powers with technology. However, his greatest powers are his heart, mind and determination.
Do you think they should give him another shot at a movie?
No, because there are so many DC characters I would prefer to see in the big screen first: Flash, Green Lantern, Captain Marvel,
even Firestorm.
I'd much rather they have him show up in a Superman movie, THEN maybe get his own spin-off movie. Because one of the MANY reasons why the Steel movie sucked is because they tried to take out the Superman Elements in his origin.
Shaq, ironically, had the look of John Henry down pretty well... he just couldn't act his way out of a wet paper bag.

"I agree. An other reason that it sucked was they rushed it. There was only 4 years between Steel's debut and the release of the movie. That isn't a real good time frame for a comic adaptation. 48 issues isn't enough to have a great pick of villains etc. I think that's why Spawn did so poorly as well. Movies are tough to make and also expensive. To make a comic book film takes a lot of talented people working together with a distinct vision.
I would think that for Steel to work they should try making an animated series first to flesh out the character. It would be a good chance to see what voices and tones are agreeable with the character. The suit would probably translate better in animation in general.

Yes. Warner Bros. should hire Jon Favreau so Steel can get the Iron Man treatment. But they need to find a decent black actor who's at least 6'8''. Shaq was cast in the movie for obvious reasons. In Steel's first appearance, you see him, a 7' bald black guy holding a basketball in his hand.
It's hard to say. I'm in between. There are alot of good arguments against making a new Steel movie. Had you asked me a year ago it would have been a certain yes. Now, I'd prefer they give one of the new Milestone characters a go instead.
@AtPhantom:
Putting Steel in a Superman movie would be good if you want him to be just another supporting character, but i want him to have his own identity separate of Superman.
@Lunacyde:
I think Steel is more of a Hardware/Icon rip then he is an Iron Man rip. Steel came out during a time when Iron Man wasn't that popular. I believe they created the character of Steel to compete with Milestone comics characters. And i resent this idea that iron Man should have the monopoly on the suite of armor market. It's like saying Star Trek is the only show that should have starships.
Steel should show up as a supporting cast member in the MOS-verse
