    Virgil Hawkins was exposed to a mutagenic gas that swept his city of Dakota, which gave him and other 'bang babies" superpowers. With the ability to control electromagnetism, Static joined the Teen Titans and continues to protect his city while serving on the team.

    Let me start by saying, I never read his original Milestone series.Only, Rebirth of the cool, the cartoon series and the godawful new 52 series.So maybe that's the problem.

    I Just recently watched a video, explaining his origin(Both the comic and the animated series).And I realized he lack motivation for being a superhero.

    It's like as soon as he got his powers, he decided to dress up and play hero.

    So does Static have a motive at all, that i'm just not getting?

    I'm less than halfway through the first run and I still haven't found out what his motivation is, although I'm looking forward to it.

    @azrael709: Static's motivation is simple.

    He was a nerdy teenager who idolized superheroes and had fantasies of being one. And upon getting superpowers and seeing what superpowered gangs could possibly do to his city, he decided to become what he always wanted now that he had the means.

    For Virgil is was a boyhood dream that eventually became reality.
