Meet Arachnophilia: this teenage outcast has found herself endowed with spider-like powers. Elsewhere, Ultimate Nick Fury learns why four astronauts returned to Earth transformed, and Nighthawk takes this opportunity to make his dramatic return!

Hyperion. Power Princess. Doctor Spectrum. Nighthawk. The Blur. Once they were a team of super heroes - a Squadron Supreme - but the greatest of the heroes vanished without a trace, leaving a beateen and damaged world behind them. Five years have passed.

The Icarus One - the first lunar mission in decades - returns to Earth and its crew is quickly hidden from the media. Disgraced spy Nick Fury smells a cover-up - and with Arcana Jones (a probability-altering ex-hero_ and Emil Burbank (a criminal genius) Fury breaks into Edwards Air Force Base and finds the crew - Jon and Cathy Mora, Ted Munn, and Peter Boyer - fantastically changed. The source of their transformation? An alien spore, like the one that gave the Squadron Supreme their powers years ago.

They are not the only "superior" beings to emerge: teen Nell Ruggles gains spider-like powers and uses them to attack her classmates; a man wrapped in a tattered flag and calling himself Old Soldier fights terrorists in Washington; tech-wizard Tucker Ford patrols the skies in a smart-suit of his own design.

Is the world ready for a new superhuman era? It might not have a choice, as the crew of the Icarus One use their new gifts to escape captivity, leaving Fury and his team behind to pick up the pieces...

Meet Arachnophilia-she's the kind of girl who always hoped the neighbors would describe her as "a quiet girl, who kept to herself"...right after she took out her homeroom with an automatic rifle. But now that this teenage outcast has found herself endowed with spider-like powers...life might just be looking up. Elsewhere, Ultimate Nick Fury learns why four astronauts returned to Earth transformed into something eerily familiar...and utterly fantastic. Meanwhile-Nighthawk takes this opportunity to make his dramatic return!
