Yes absolutely! In terms of UTOS it was a series of untold stories that fell in between of Amazing Fantasy issue #15 and ASM source material. It has a genuine Spider-Man vibe to it.
@thor_parker82: Busiek started with Amazing Fantasy #16-18 a set of stories between Spiderman's origin and ASM #1 then Untold Tales #1-25 wove between the stories of the first 23 issues of the Lee/Ditko run (Also Spider-Girl #10-11 serve as a 26th issue where Mayday winds up back in time to the events of ASM #25 essentially Back To The Futuring herself) They're all pretty good.
Didn't know about Spider-Girl #10-11. Thanks! I'm gonna chase those issues up very soon. ?
Yes, get them, they are a great read. The whole series is great!
As for the list I agree with most except for Slott, he would not be on my list.,

Why the hate for Slott?
Big Time, Spider Island, and Superior Spiderman were great Arcs!
And everything else?
Almost anybody other than Dan Slott and Brian Michael Bendis.
I think I'd have to go with Gerry Conway and probably Peter David, they can both write very mature, responsible Peter's but also know how to show off his sense of humor. It's much more subdued, sarcastic and genuinely funny. Gerry killed Gwen Stacy and Peter David gave life to Miguel O'Hara, the best alternative to Peter Parker/Spider-Man.
Slott can't be funny, everything he has Peter say makes him sound like a twelve-year old in a Spider-Man suit.
Brian Michael Bendis used to be funny, but then he had an epiphany and created Miles Morales, one of the worst characters in fiction and is now obsessed with pushing the character over every other one in existence.
And to end, neither one of these writers are happy unless they're making Peter look like a complete idiot. Whether it's treating him like he's a garbage in contrast to how awesome Miles is like Bendis loves doing, or making all of Peter's supporting cast/superhero friends loathe him and think he's a moron like Slott loves doing.
They suck, that's basically the sum of what I'm trying to say.
No particular order:
- Stan Lee
- Tom DeFalco
- Roger Stern
- Gerry Conway
- J.M. DeMatteis
- JMS
- Dan Slott
- Christos Gage
- Chris Yost (Mostly because of his Scarlet Spider run)
- Peter David (Mostly because of his 2099 work)
- Brian Michael Bendis (Ult. Spider-Man pre-Ultimatum)
@friv: Bendis always made 616 Peter incompetent in general, not just in comparison to Miles.
@amazingfantasy: Oh, I agree. It just seems more apparent now because he's constantly comparing the two, whether it's relevant to the story or not. What am I saying? It's Bendis, of course it's not relevant.
