@Skaddix: @mickeyangel: @Scarlet_Rogue: This is probably a sign that the writers are ready to let Peter grow up and mature, get married again for the first time with Mary Jane and all that stuff. That is what this is, THAT is what this is. *Sh. I don't wanna feel your negative Energy*
Spider-Man
Character » Spider-Man appears in 17242 issues.
Peter Parker was bitten by a radioactive spider as a teenager, granting him spider-like powers. After the death of his Uncle Ben, Peter learned that "with great power, comes great responsibility." Swearing to always protect the innocent from harm, Peter Parker became Spider-Man.

Aw, he saved his crush.
I never noticed that until just now. I was speeding through it.
That's a nice touch.
My only problem with it is that I don't think Slott is going far enough. I would also give him a dog and a magical imp for good measure. Then the fun begins!
Tsk tsk...a sidekick is a nice way of saying that a superhero/villain is getting OLD! But seriously, this seems great to me.
All seriousness, though, I'm sure Slott will do a fine job with this. Food for thought: Wasn't Speedball supposed to be like Alpha back in the 90's? And, finally, I'm not sure I like his costume.
i would rather his sidekick be spider-girl (anya). but i am sure the new character will be interesting.
I am so surprised by this. They're actually making a new character. That..IS SO GREAT!!!! It seems like both the big two have been playing it safe and not trying to create new characters from scratch.
I'm a major Marvel hater, but I will be getting this.
First i thought he might not last long ,but now it's kind of interesting ,he looks like when Spider-man was young.
Wow, unhappy with his life, has a crush, theres a jock, and he gets his powers on a field trip. He DEFINITELY isn't a Peter Parker. Very original, glad Marvel isn't using the same ideas over and over again any more.
This is an interesting approach and I see a future for the Alpha character. The problem is I do not see a long term future for an Alpha individual title. This characters creation is all about how it will effect Spiderman and his sense of responsibility in taking the young hero under his wing and giving him guidance, I wonder how much thought was placed into making this new character new or unique given that the origin is a total ripoff of Spidermans. I see a problem with maintaining this as an ongoing title and I hope the writers create a new crop of villians for him to face and do not stick him with Spiderman B and C list villians. Also I hope the powers of this character are somewhat unique and interesting because there are enough Spiderman out there.

Andy....... Maguire.....?
Pretty soon Mark Waid will give Daredevil a seeing eye dog
I am actually interested! I can't believe I'm saying this, but this could potentially turn out to be a great (original) plot point in ASM history!
Well Andy Maguire is a unique character. Being ignored by everyone is a bit contrived. Yet being a C average student (usually unpopular students are super genius nerds) who has no friends but is ignored as a target by bullies and jocks is pretty different for comics (yet not unrelatable). Otherwise he reminds me of Timmy Turner from the Fairly odd parents (without conflicts or fairies).
Alpha is Andy Maguire? So is he going to get the clone saga storyline where he has a clone named Beta who is really Tobey Garfield? lol
Yay, Glad to see Spider-Man gaining greater responsiblity..... X3 butt weight..... does that mean Spidey will gain GREATER power 3=D
Seriously, they can't be serious. That's the dumbest thing I've ever heard since Spidey danced down the street in an emo haircut, had a musical number for no reason, and hit his girlfriend in a matter of 10 minutes.
With the creation of Alpha they are putting Peter Parker in the role of a mentor when he needs to maintain him as a light hearted teenager. If they try to keep Peter the same they'll end up down playing Alpha like a little kid. If they try to change Peter Parker, they're morons. I can't see this lasting in the long run. The only thing I can see them doing WELL with this is if they keep the two of them on equal levels. They can work together, maybe as rivals, maybe as partners, but I can't see this moving very far with Spiderman having a sidekick. I think they could make it very interesting if Alpha doesn't want to be just a partner, doesn't want to do good, and possibly becomes a new villain. That could be a very interesting and engrossing origin story. In the long run it keeps Peter Parker the same and leaves deep ties. If not a full fledged villain, they could do the whole Anti-Hero thing.
Comment back, tell me what you think! (Try to keep it positive)
@JeanFrancois13: It's a natural evolution for Peter. He's maturing, and this will provide a lot of new storylines and opportunities. It'll be cool to see how Peter is as a mentor, as he's had a lot of great ones himself. Nothing lasts in the long run for characters, things are always changed back to the status quo. I'll enjoy this while it lasts.
@SpideyIvyDaredevilFan26: Your post is the dumbest thing I've seen since I saw Peter Parker dancing down the street with an emo haircut.
/Just opened thread/
Oh, so THAT'S what that "Alpha"-thingie was in other threads... Nice idea, but I doubt it will stick. And "Parker Particles"? Really? Pyms fame burns his pillow or something?
Sssooo, ASM #692 is out. Anyone agrees with Peter that he created a monster of Mad Science?
Speaking of mad science - it's just me, or Omega actually should be worse than Alpfa? Like where Omega-mutants more powerful than alfa-mutants? O_o
The idea is actually pretty cool but I hope it's not an permanent thing. Spider-man is not the kind of hero that needs a sidekick i my opinion, maybe it could work for a couple of issues and then I think Alpha could get his own series.
