I think it would be pretty legit, he would murder the x-men and make money while holding controlling his empire.
Spider-Man
Character » Spider-Man appears in 17242 issues.
Peter Parker was bitten by a radioactive spider as a teenager, granting him spider-like powers. After the death of his Uncle Ben, Peter learned that "with great power, comes great responsibility." Swearing to always protect the innocent from harm, Peter Parker became Spider-Man.
If Spider-Man was a crime boss

please explain beyond "murder the x-men" and "make money"
Pretty simple really, Spidey would make a better kingpin of crime while murdering his enemies like wolverine and storm ;)
I'd say he wouldn't be killing X-Men, more like killing NYC superhumans, like Daredevil, and the FF, and Luke Cage, and people like that. X-men are more California centered, aren't they?
In my opinion and experiences killing the heroes only draws unwanted attention to your activities. he'd be better off maneuvering around them.
Interesting concept I can kind of imagine Spider-man when one of his henchman fails he hits them with the ol 'mark of kaine'. Not sure on the massacring the X-men part though i'm sensing you don't like them that much.
Spider-man, Spider-man
Does whatever a crime boss can
Sells crack rocks, any size
Hires thieves, eyes on the prize
Look out! Here comes the Spider-man!
Is he evil? Listen, Bud!
He's got MF'ing Tiger Blood.
Does he count his stolen bread?
No he's busy breaking heads
Hey there, there goes the Spider-man!
In the dead of the night,
Betting cash on an underground fight
Pimping hoes, they so fine
By the hour, pay for the time
Spider-man, Spider-man
Your neighborhood crime boss Spider-man
Wealthy from being, a drug lord
Ladies lined up, he's never bored
favorite pie, Lemon Meringue
Wherever there's a gangbang
You'll find the Spider-man!

With the famous 'Parker luck' Spider-man would probably end up screwing himself when he is at the brink of achieving all his goals
@Amanthine: is that the one where he trained as an assassin and had that overpowered Spider-sense?(if so yeah that was one of the only What If's I enjoyed reading)

@Amanthine: yeah the costume looked a lot like the costume Alex Ross designed. I think they should have made that Kaines new costume that would have been sick!

You know funnily enough, in all those alternate What If?'s, whenever Spider-Man is a villain, or even a more ruthless anti-hero type character, he's pretty damn good at it.
What if? Spider-Man vs. Wolverine is still one of my favorite iterations of Spider-Man of all time.
