It's Mercurochrome
Let me begin by saying, I don't read any of the current Spider-man comics. The last couple of years, either writing I disliked or art I disliked kept me from keeping up with anything Spidey related. I don't begrudge anyone else their enjoyment of Dan Slott's stuff, or any other recent developments, it just wasn't for me.
I picked this up on a whim because it was a pleasant surprise to see a Spider-man 2099 book on the shelf. I've often thought the 2099 stuff was underrated and lost in the quagmire of 90's mediocrity. What also sold me on the book was the amazing Peter David scripting and some really crisp and cool interior art (though admittedly I've never heard of Sliney before).
I'm glad I took a chance on this book because it was a lot of fun. Miguel O'Hara is stuck in the present and while trying to safeguard his future, he's also pursued by an agent of T.O.T.E.M. This agent is essentially the Terminator. It scans people, speaks plainly, and vaporizes anyone that stands in his way. There's great action and David's writing just clicks with me and I want to come back for the next issue. I recommend it, but think I enjoyed it so much because I went in with no expectations and an open mind, which made fairly run of the mill story archetypes fun for me.
