Just out of interest, does anyone feel like they can relate to the Silver Surfer in some way?
Silver Surfer
Character » Silver Surfer appears in 2389 issues.
Norrin Radd of Zenn-La is the mighty herald of Galactus, the devourer of worlds. Gifted with the Power Cosmic and a trusty board that's faster than lightspeed, which he can summon at will whenever needed, Norrin Radd travels to distant reaches throughout the universe as the Silver Surfer.
Do you relate to the Surfer?
Actually, I do on a lot of levels.
He was into science
He longed for a life of adventure
He would sacrifice himself for the greater good, even though he didn't truly agree with his society
He values all life and protects it
He wonders at the beauty of nature and despises its destruction
He is confused over mankind's brutality and intolerance
Well i find surfer very relate-able, granted i am not a silver skinned alien granted power by a semi-abstract godly being who wonders around the universe in search of his place in the universe but i find him relate-able
Why? Because to me he represents a lost soul, a person who has witness tragedy all his life and is trying to do whatever he can do make the world feel good, and that to some extent is because he believe he has just too much blood in his hands. Its a touching character, i know i am nothing like him but i can relate the ideology with mine. One reason why i read so much on surfer.
Meh thats just my take.
- A person trying to find his place in the universe but feels lost
- Doesn't feel like he fits in wherever he goes
- Stands up for what he believes in and has a strong moral code
- Compassionate and considerate character
- Able to travel and explore space
Power wise he may not be a relatable character but character wise he is. That's why he's my favorite character.

Those are pretty much the same reasons I like him so much.
I always thought being unrealateable was part of who he was. He's pretty much intended to be the ultimate loner.

the fact that he is so alone is his most relatable quality, who hasn't felt alone despite being in a sea of people? pretty much everyone.
also I can't help but relate to the way he looks at humanity as an outsider seeing all the flaws in our world. I'm sure that's how other people feel on a bad day too.
I do. I often cover myself in silver paint, run into corner stores and scream loudly that Galactus hungers and needs to be fed. Then I grab a lot of food and run out, then hide in bushes with my trash can lid surf board.
You win this thread.
On many levels I say yes. His wonder lust and need to explore. His love of science and the list goes on and on and on.
They do not give this character enough credit who would not love to just get up and go explore the stars.
I hope they do not make him a winy cry baby over not being able to go home and more of a hero out to see what space has to hold.
I would feel sorry for any soul whom tried to tie the Down he would not stay any one place long.
Even the love of his life would pale next to his need to see and explore the universe.
They never use show how smart he is or what he can do by just using his mind. He was from a advanced group of people after all.
Not just a strong arm that can change mater and toss around the power cosmic.
It is what he can do with it. Kind of like when Peter Parker had the Captain universe powers.

This, so many people often view relatablity in characters based on their skillset which I think is a very shallow way to look at superheroes.

yes it is horrible how so few know the real draw of the surfer. It is up to the writer to bring his good side out and create a universe where he can truly shine. Like the Star Trek universe I would like to see him take pleasure in exploration and seeing and blending in with new groups.
