    Savage She-Hulk

"I'll learn to live with it! from now on, whatever Jennifer Walters can't handle... the She-Hulk will do!" -- She-Hulk (Jennifer Walters has sworn, not knowing how this words will return... to haunt her!).

Jennifer Walters is the daughter of Sheriff Morris Walters. Jennifer is also the cousin of Bruce Banner, a.k.a. The Incredible Hulk. Though she was five years younger than Bruce, Jennifer developed a close sister-and-brother relationship with her cousin while they were growing up together. After they reached adulthood, they eventually went their separate ways as they both pursued different careers. Jennifer studied for a career in law and eventually became a lawyer.

She attended UCLA School of Law where she became one of the top legal scholars and earned her Juris Doctorate Degree there. She would eventually earn her Masters degree at Harvard Law School. One day, Bruce decided to visit Jennifer and re-establish their once close relationship. Unfortunately on that very same day, Jennifer was shot and seriously wounded by men working for Nicholas Trask, a crime boss who had once been an enemy of her father and also the enemy of one of Jennifer’s clients. To save Jennifer's life, Bruce gave his cousin a blood transfusion of his own blood since there were no other donors of her type available. Bruce's gamma-irradiated blood caused Jennifer to transform into the savage She-Hulk. Jennifer first transformed into the She-Hulk when Trask’s men came to finish off Jennifer by posing as doctors. However, Jennifer quickly recognized them, and in fear for her life, transformed into the She-Hulk, easily dispatching the would-be killers.

    Creation

    She-Hulk #1
    She-Hulk #1

Though Stan Lee is credited as the creator of She-Hulk, the character was not originally his idea. The initial reason for She-Hulk's creation was to gain exclusive rights to a female Hulk character. The idea was born during the 1970's run of the live-action "Incredible Hulk" television series. The show enjoyed such success that CBS considered making a female Hulk spin-off series. If CBS had gone through with it, they would have owned the rights to She-Hulk. But Marvel got wind of their idea and acted quickly, getting Stan Lee to write the first issue of a She-Hulk comic book series, with artist John Buscema doing the pencils.

    Character Evolution

    She-Hulk in her original costume

She-Hulk has played many roles in her comics career. Her early portrayal in her solo series made her similar to her cousin Bruce, with her transformations brought on by anger, but when Morbius cured her of a blood disease, she gained full control over her abilities. Her solo series ran from 1980 until 1982, after which she joined the Avengers in Avengers #221. Following the events of the Secret Wars mini-series in 1984, Jennifer then joined the Fantastic Four, replacing Thing until he later returned to the team.

She-Hulk's solo series - beginning in 1989 - introduced a new aspect of her persona, that is her awareness that she is a comic-book character and her ability to break the fourth wall. After this series concluded in the mid-90s, She-Hulk continued to be a reliable member of the Avengers and appeared in two further solo series in 2004 and 2005. After the huge events of World War Hulk and Fall of the Hulks, Jennifer is a key player in the life of her cousin and is beginning to establish a new life for herself alongside all the many new members of the Hulk family. Most recently, when the Fantastic Four left Earth to find a cure for a degenerative condition that was threatening to kill them, Jennifer joined a new team, the FF, to stay behind on Earth and take their place. The new team is composed of Medusa, Scott Lang, Ms. Thing (Darla Deering), and herself.

    Major Story Arcs

The Start of her Superhero Career

At first, Jennifer was unable to control the She-Hulk, just as her cousin Bruce could not control the Hulk. At one point, Jennifer had a mental block placed on herself to keep from changing into She-Hulk. However, she eventually was able to maintain her intelligence in She-Hulk form. She also began to come to terms with her dual persona, since she loved the confidence she had in her She-Hulk form. She even reached a point where she loved being the She-Hulk more than regular Jennifer Walters. Jennifer eventually comes to terms with both forms, feeling that she can offer society more between the two of them.

    Avengers and the Fantastic Four

    She-Hulk in the Fantastic Four
    She-Hulk in the Fantastic Four

After fighting solo for a while, Jennifer joined the Avengers upon the request of her friend the Wasp, who was the founding female member of the team. This was during the same time that the archer Hawkeye rejoined the Avengers. She-Hulk and Hawkeye had clashing personalities and were always at each other's throats, but during a battle with the Masters of Evil, she was unwillingly turned back into Jennifer Walters by the Radiation Man. Feeling helpless, she became depressed, but thanks to Hawkeye cleverly taunting her, she was able to become the She-Hulk once more. She continued to work with the Avengers up until the Secret Wars, when she became a temporary member of the Fantastic Four, replacing The Thing until he returned.

While on a mission with the Fantastic Four, She-Hulk attempted to prevent a deadly radiation leak onboard a SHIELD Helicarrier. She successfully stopped the radiation, but afterwards it appeared that she could not transform back to her normal body. However, Jennifer happily accepted this as she loved to be in her She-Hulk form more then her normal human body. Eventually, it would be revealed that the reason she could not change back to her normal body was that she was psychologically blocking that ability. Jennifer would eventually be able to transform back into her human body.

    Returning to the Avengers

After the Thing returned to the Fantastic Four, Jennifer voluntarily left the team and re-joined the Avengers. She also got a new job on District Attorney Blake Tower’s staff. Jennifer would eventually learn that one of the workers there was a former Golden Age superheroine named Blonde Phantom. Blonde Phantom was the reason that Jennifer gained a job on the District Attorney’s staff. After a while she left the Avengers, returning only occasionally when they truly needed her.

    The Search for She-Hulk

She-Hulk returned to the Avengers and was present during the Red Skull's chemical attack on the United States. She was nearly killed by the Skull's biological weapon after Jack of Hearts accidentally reverted her to her human form, but survived. However, the incident caused her to become crazed and violent, and she fled after attacking her teammates.

In the aftermath of the Red Skull's defeat, the Avengers set off to find She-Hulk. With help from Hawkeye and Bruce, She-Hulk was able to calm down and regain control of herself

    Avengers Disassembled

    Destroys Vision during Avengers Dissasembled

When the Scarlet Witch went insane and killed many of the Avengers, she used her powers to cause She-Hulk to go completely berserk. She-Hulk went on a rampage similar to the Hulk and was unstoppable. She even ripped Vision in half while she was out of control.

She-Hulk was held in stasis until the crisis was averted, and the Avengers ultimately disbanded due to the sheer amount of damage Scarlet Witch had done to the team.

    A New Job

Jen, in her She-Hulk form, had become somewhat of a nuisance to the other Avengers with her extreme life style and her wild parties that were threating to destroy the foundations of the Avengers Mansion, everyone had enough and Jen was forced to leave her home. At the same time she lost her job due to an incident with a photocopier.

This sent Jen into state that not even alcohol could cure due to her "unique metabolism and immense body weight", said by Holden Holliway who offered Jen a job at his law firm on the condition that he wants Jennifer Walters and not She-Hulk which she accepts the offer.

During her first case in which Jen defends a new superhero whos powers are affecting his life and loved ones, Jen depowers herself to convince her client not to blow himself up, taking her with him. He agrees and Jen gets to work. Using a trick of placing a blue dot over the man's face so the jury would see the man inside rather than the hero with powers, Jen won her first case for the company and did it without her powers, stating that "some of the things that She-Hulk can't handle--Jennifer Walters can", this was a echo to a similar said line at the end of The Savage She-Hulk #1.

Spidey and Shulkie takes down the Scorpion
Spidey and Shulkie takes down the Scorpion

Jennifer later would defend Spiderman in the Spiderman vs JJ Jameson case in which Peter Parker was looking for three hundred million dollars in damages against the Spiderman name. During the hearing Spiderman's old foe the Scorpion attacks, seeing that he could take out two birds with one stone but he is stopped by Spidey and Shulkie. While it looks like Peter would be winning the case, he finds out that he cannot sue JJ without getting himself sued in the process for making false images of Spiderman for the Daily Bugle. With no other choice, Spidey asks to settle out of court on the condition that both Peter and JJ dress up like chickens and hands out apology notices, JJ refuses at first but when hes reminded how much money he could lose, he agrees.

She-Hulk would next become the watcher of Holden's Granddaughter Sasha Martin aka Southpaw, the two don't get along as Jen sees Southpaw as a rebellious brat and Sasha sees She Hulk as an overpowering authority figure. While getting Southpaw out from a prison were super powered villians are shrunk down with pym particles, a number of the inmates escape by shrinking down even further and hitching a ride on She-Hulk herself however Jen would defeat and send them all back to jail except for the Thinker. Southpaw would have to travel to space with Jen as she is selected to join the Magistrati, agents of the living tribunal who govern justice across space and time. One case has Jen fight a warrior known as the Champion of the Universe in defense of planet Skardon, Jen however loses the fight but requests a rematch which is granted for three months time.

Due to something one of Jen's colleague said either, she has an idea, she builds muscles in her normal form so that her hulk form has even more power. The plan works but after Southpaw gets into a fight with the Champion Sasha mentions that she tried to fix up a fight with Champion too but because of the Gauntlet on her left hand being classed as a weapon she couldnt fight as foreign objects are not allowed in the ring, this gives Jen another idea.

On the day of the fight Jen states that the Infinity Gem that Champion has on his forehead is illegal by Skardon law however she makes a bet that if she beats him he can never use the gem again, he agrees but states if Champion wins he take She-Hulk as his wife which Southpaw accepts on Jen's behalf, he has it removed but doesn't notice She Hulk became more powerful until she removed her robe. She-Hulk crushed Champion in seconds and ended his tyrannical reign, afterwards both Jen and Sasha then returned to Earth.

    Titania's Terror

Jen found that she was having trouble controlling her new found power, she realised that in her Hulk form she is more impulsive and with her strength as it is now, she is a danger to others around her. She is given a Jupiter Suit that helps her control of her powers more from Reed Richards, while walking with John Jameson (the son of JJ Jameson) she is attacked by her old foe Titania. Jen punches her once and Titania is sent flying into a ditch, there she is visited by the Champion who offers her the Infinity Gem, looking for revenge but promised to never use the gem again, he selects Titania as her hate for She-Hulk might be more than his own. After teaching her to focus the gem on something, Titania lifts up a massive chunk of the earth shouting "SHE-HULK!!!"

    She-Hu...NO, TITANIA!!!
    She-Hu...NO, TITANIA!!!

Titania is now ready to finally defeat her nemesis but asks if the Champion wanted the gem back, could he take it which he says yes, Titania drops the earth on Champion, killing him.

Titania searches for She-Hulk, destroying Jen's home and workplace as well as injurying her friends just to track her down, During the destruction, Southpaw makes her escape. When Jen arrives to the carnage she attacks titania but even without her Jupiter Suit and at full power, her punches barely have an effect on Titania, she is beaten and knocked out, reverting back to her normal form, Titania is about to finish her off but Jen disappears from her attacker sight, this is due to a spell that the Scarlet Witch placed on Jen when she started her new job, if anyone wishes Jennifer Walters harm, she would turn invisible. Jen retreats, realising if she hulked out now, Titania would be able to see her again and kill her.

As other heroes hold Titania at bay, Jen backs off to make a plan. She returns to face Titania but is quickly killed or so it would seem, the She-Hulk that Titania "kills" is a shapeshifting decoy named Ditto. As Titania gloats over her victory, Jen, still invisible to her, uses this distraction to take the Infinity Gem. Jen is now visible to titania because she thinks shes dead and no longer wishes her harm which Jen sees as good progress, using the power of the gem herself, Jen punches Titania skywards. Later on Titania, now in the Pym Prison, uses her one phone call to hire Jen as her lawyer as she "didn't know who else to try" to which Jen hangs up on her.

The Civil War and Super-Human Registration Act

    She-Hulk and the Avengers
    She-Hulk and the Avengers

Jennifer registered under the Super-Human Registration Act (SHRA) and was pro-registration. However, Jennifer still gave legal advice to any side that needed it. Jennifer worked as a lawyer for a Superhuman Law firm and married John Jameson, son of Daily Bugle Publisher, J. Jonah Jameson. In order to gain Jonah’s blessing, Jennifer came up with a plan that would help Jonah sue Peter Parker for fraud. However, she revealed that her true purpose was to keep Jonah on a wild goose chase, since she had no intentions of actually suing Spider-Man. Jennifer was also the defense lawyer for Robbie Baldwin (Speedball), whose carelessness led to the reason for the Superhuman Registration Act going into action.

Eventually Jennifer discovered that her feelings toward John had been manipulated by Starfox, the Titan. She then separated from John. One of the ramifications of the SHRA is that She-Hulk has now been drafted as a SHIELD agent, and works on a squad dedicated to Hulk-Level threats. However, Iron Man and SHIELD have been sending Jennifer and her team in a wild goose chase, telling them to "go after the Hulk" when they actually aren't. After sleeping with Iron Man, the SHIELD Helicarrier went crazy and all the technology began attacking everyone.

She-Hulk had to go up against a bunch of Nick Fury Life Model Decoys (LMDs) that went insane. After everything calmed down, Jennifer was holding a severed head of the Fury LMD when it mentioned Bruce Banner. A curious She-Hulk decided to go to her old Superhuman Law Firm to see if anyone could decrypt the message. With Mr. Zix and some unknown outside help, Jennifer was able to discover that Tony Stark and the Illuminati shot her cousin Bruce out into space. An angered She-Hulk returned to the Helicarrier and engaged Iron Man in battle. She-Hulk seemed to have the upper hand until Iron Man used an adamantium needle to inject nanotech, causing her to lose her ability to change into She-Hulk.

    Lean, Mean, and Evergreen!
    Lean, Mean, and Evergreen!

Now, a powerless Jennifer could only continue her old life as a lawyer. Ben Grimm let her stay at his apartment for the night, and in the morning, Jennifer was still uncomfortable waking up in her human form. Jennifer went to work at the Law Offices of Goodman to discover that Mallory is going to defend the Leader in his upcoming case. Mallory then slaps Jennifer with a subpoena, forcing her to testify about her radiation experience. On the day of the trial, Mallory calls up Jennifer to recall her emotions while she was in her She-Hulk form. This proves embarrassing for her when she realizes how many men she has slept with, even including Juggernaut. Mallory continues with tough questions, determined to prove that the radiation forces people to do something they usually would not. Jennifer has begun realizing that she loved being in her She-Hulk form more then her human form. Eventually she would come to terms and be comfortable with her human form again.

The next day, John came back to Jennifer pleading not to annul their marriage. However, Jennifer wants to since their marriage meant nothing. Mr. Zix comes in and asks everyone to join him in the office. Zix reveals his true form as a robot and tells them that he only has a couple hours to complete his task. He needed to ask some questions to Jennifer about what she tried to do by trying to warn Hawkeye about his death. However, Jennifer finally learns that her plan worked, and Hawkeye is still alive.

Apparently, there was another Earth out there that is similar to real life, where comic characters live as regular everyday citizens and there were no superheroes at all. That Earth called themselves Earth A, (Earth A or Earth-712 was first seen in Fantastic Four #118) and they had discovered a way to interlope to other dimensions. The Jennifer Walters of Earth A decided to go on a vacation to Earth B (Earth-616, the main Marvel Universe), since Earth A decided to allow their civilians to use it as a vacation destination. Jennifer of Earth A gets transported to Earth B and is then able to turn into the She-Hulk. She begins battling and defeats the Rhino, however she eventually gets arrested for interloping dimensions, and is sent to a holding cell with other interlopers.

Jennifer of Earth B (who is still powerless because of Tony Stark injecting nanites in her) comes and reveals that she is going to be her lawyer. Trouble came up right away, and Jennifer allows She-Hulk of Earth A to go and fight. Afterwards, Jennifer decides to use She-Hulk to help gather up other interlopers. When they brought an interloping Doctor Strange, Jennifer gets into an argument with Mr. Fantastic about the nanites, and how it is permanent and cannot be undone. Afterwards, Jennifer and She-Hulk of Earth A went out for the night to drink and talk. Eventually Jennifer of Earth B decides that She-Hulk should stay in Earth B and have Jennifer go live in Earth A since she no longer has any powers. It is decided and agreed, and even Reed Richards gives Jennifer his blessings. Jennifer goes through the transporter to head for Earth A, however, Reed realizes that he could reverse her direction which will cause her atoms to match the one with Jennifer from Earth A. Jennnifer, now with her recovered powers, decides to stay in her own Earth, and the Jennifer from Earth A realized that she missed her old home, and decides to return.

    World War Hulk

    Hulk defeats She-Hulk
    Hulk defeats She-Hulk

Hulk returns to Earth and he is very angry. Hulk defeats Black Bolt and demands Iron Man, Dr. Strange, Mr. Fantastic, and Professor X to come face him. He arrives in Manhattan and battles Iron Man, defeating him easily even when he is wearing his Hulk Buster armor. The Avengers arrive and prepare to battle, and as Hercules charges at the Hulk, Jennifer stops him and tells them that she will try to talk to her cousin first. Jennifer tries to calm down the Hulk, but he stands his ground, forcing them to beat him if they want to stop him. Jennifer gets a couple of good shots in on the Hulk, but he overpowers her and slams her head first into the ground.

    Bounty Hunter

    Jen and Jazinda VS Skrull
    Jen and Jazinda VS Skrull

Jennifer, who now has her powers again, but no longer works for The Initiative, began a new career. Now working for the Freeman Bonding Inc. her job was to capture anyone who skipped out on their court date: pretty much a bounty hunter. In this new job, Jennifer works with a new partner. The two of them track their target to Minnesota and eventually Jennifer gets impatient waiting for their target to come out, and alerts her partner that she is going in. The two made a 20 dollar bet that Jennifer "couldn't do it without turning green." She goes inside and captures their target easily. However, a cat startles her and Absorbing Man (who was their target's cousin) grabs her neck and snaps it in half. Absorbing Man then heads for the RV that they were traveling in, to encounter She-Hulk jumping out. The two battle each other across town. She-Hulk is then ambushed by a tiny Titania, who was shrunken by Hank Pym's particles. Titania invades She-Hulk's ears and begins causing havoc in there. Meanwhile, the Jennifer that got her neck snapped gets up while her neck was still out of joint. She captures their target and heads for She-Hulk. Eventually She-Hulk is able to defeat Absorbing Man and complete their mission. Later that night, as "Jen" is driving, She-Hulk comes up to the front to ride with her. It turns out that "Jen" was really a Skrull named Jazinda who was pretending to be Jennifer.

Around this time, She-Hulk briefly joined Nighthawk's new team of Defenders. Unfortunately, the group failed to gain any traction, and presumably disbanded.

    Lady Liberators

    Lady Liberators
    Lady Liberators

She-Hulk joined with super-heroines Thundra, Invisible Woman and Valkyrie to form the Lady Liberators. They later recruited other super-heroines like Black Widow, Tigra, Invisible Woman, Spider-Woman, Storm, and Hellcat into their ranks. Their first mission was to travel to Marinmer to give earthquake aid, where they were confronted by the Winter Guard. After an initial misunderstanding and a brief battle, the two teams worked together to help the devastated people. The Lady Liberators then sought out and battled the Red Hulk, though with mixed results.

After a confrontation with Lyra and the Sentry, Jennifer decided to find out the Red Hulk's identity. This led to a confrontation with Doc Samson in which She-Hulk was captured. She was being held prisoner by the Intelligencia but was released Lyra. She and Lyra fight Red She-Hulk who throws them off the Helicarrier. When they reach the ground, they decide to help save the White House from the "Hulked-out" Aimarines.

    She-Hulks

    Lyra and Jen: She-Hulks
    Lyra and Jen: She-Hulks

After the events of Fall of the Hulks and World War Hulks, Jennifer is set to work with Lyra to capture the remaining members of the Intelligencia by Bruce. The two live in a ritzy apartment in the upper east side of Manhattan paid for by Bruce and Steve Rogers while Lyra is sent to high school to learn how to live in normal society. Their first target is the Trapster.

After Lyra's first day in her cover at high school, Jennifer and Lyra next go after the Wizard, who had purchased a large yacht and filled it with women in bathing suits. During the fight, Wizard's yacht crashes, allowing them to capture him. Wizard is then brought to a prison within Banner's Death Valley Gamma Base, where the Hulk convinces him to reveal the location of their next target: the Red Ghost. During the fight with the Red Ghost and his apes, Jennifer is knocked away, leaving Lyra to battle them alone. Amelia (a girl from Lyra's school who discovered her secret) is then found on the carrier by one of the apes named Petro, but Jennifer returns and saves her.

Their next target is Klaw. After receiving a message from Bruce, Lyra and Jennifer arrive in Switzerland and break into the base where Mad Thinker is helping Klaw get rid of his powers by transferring them into a creation called Byte. However, the process is stopped when Lyra starts destroying machines before she knows what they are. With Klaw's energy having nowhere else to go, an explosion destroys Mad Thinker's base. Outside the destroyed base, Klaw wakes up and attacks the Hulks, who soon overcome and defeat the sound powered duo.

Later on Lyra is at her high school dance in her human form when her boyfriend asks her to dance. Unfortunately the Wizard has broken out of his prison and goes to Lyra's dance to kill her. However, on seeing a blast coming from the Wizard, Jake steps in front of it to protect the human Lyra. Seeing her date harmed, Lyra begins to fight the Wizard, however the fight isn't going so well for her and she is almost killed by Bentley when Jennifer shows up. After the Wizard is defeated everyone at the dance blames Lyra, Amelia even lies saying she hadn't known Lyra was a Hulk. Lyra and Jennifer than leave the dance with Lyra saddened because she had hurt her friends.

    The Future Foundation

Jennifer served as one of the replacement members (along with Scott Lang, Medusa and Darla Deering) of the Future Foundation or the Fantastic Four in the 4 minute absence of Reed, Sue, Johnny and Ben as they travelled 'beyond time and space' however this turns out to be a lot longer as the Fantastic Four don't return in 4 minutes.

Having been persuaded to fill in for Thing, something the four resident Moloids have also taken to, replacing "The Ben" with "The Jen."

    Her Own Law Firm

She-Hulk striking out on her own
She-Hulk striking out on her own

Jen has recently opened up her own law firm via money she got from a client she helped out, this allowed her to work on her own terms and even hired Pasty Walker (aka Hellcat) to be her assistant/spy/side kick, depending on the situation.

During this she helped out Captain America who was standing trial for murder, assisted Doctor Doom's Son to become independent from Latveria and shrunk down to find a man before he explodes.

    Secret Wars and A-Force

During the events of Secret Wars, Jen was located in the paradise of Battleworld called Arcadia and was the Baroness appointed by the God of Battleworld, Doctor Doom. Together with primary members Dazzler, Medusa, Nico Minoru, Loki, Captain Marvel and America Chavez, they formed the A-Force, an all female Avengers team.

    She-Hulk and members of A-Force
    She-Hulk and members of A-Force

While defending the town from a megalodon attack, America Chavez accidently breaks a section of a wall called the Shield which protects Arcadia from zombies from the other side, this is against the law enforced of God Doom, who orders her to be banished to the Shield for the rest of her life. Nico, upset by this, runs off only to encounter a being called Singularity.

A portal to another world is discovered and She-Hulk decides to investigate, this brings the Thor Corps into the mix and they try to arrest Jen, Medusa however prevents this at the cost of her life. The portal is of Asgardian nature and its found that Loki is behind everything in an attempt to overthrow Jen and rule as Baroness herself, this plan fails however and Loki destroys a section of the Shield allowing the zombie horde to invade Arcadia.

The battle was won thanks to Singularity taking away all the zombies but sacrificing herself to do so, after which Loki was arrested and Arcadia started to rebuild itself.

    A-Force Reassembled

After the events of Secret Wars, The main members of the A-Force (minus Loki and America Chavez) were brought back together by Singularity who entered universe 616, however no one but Singularity remembers the events in Arcadia. They reluctantly team up to defeat a threat called Antimatter from capturing Singularity.

Civil War II and Gray She-Hulk

    Gray She-Hulk
    Gray She-Hulk

After Discovering a new Inhuman called Ulysses who has an ability to see into the future, Captain Marvel uses this power to prepare for attacks and disasters to prevent them from coming true. One attack has Thanos arriving on Earth to capture the cosmic cube and while the defence was a success, one of War Machine's missiles strayed and hit She Hulk.

It was thought that Jen had died in hospital due to the friendly fire attack however it is later revealed that she had entered a coma, which she later comes out of only to be told that Bruce has been killed by Hawkeye.

In the aftermath of Thanos' attack, She-Hulk now sports a scarred form with gray skin instead of green, much like Bruce's Gray Hulk form. This new incarnation of She-Hulk is more violent and bestial than its predecessor, causing Jennifer to mostly remain in her human form in order to avoid hurting those around her. It is also shown that she is experiencing lingering PTSD over the incident.

    Avengers Mountain

    She-Hulk on the Avengers
    She-Hulk on the Avengers

When the many different Avengers teams went their separate ways after stopping the competition between Grandmaster and The Challenger, the Dark Celestials attacked Earth forcing a group of heroes to spontaneously team up and take them down. Jen was near one of the Celestials landfall and was hit with enough gamma radiation to transform her Hulk form into a more muscular and savage version. Now going by just “Hulk,” she joined the other Avengers at Avengers Mountain, a Celestial turned tower in the Arctic Circle that was now working as the new base of operations.

As a member of this new Avengers group, Jen would get involved with a number of incidents revolving around the oldest heroic mantles on Earth. Centuries old machinations of Mephisto were coming to a head. After the Avengers adopted a baby (Brandy) chosen by the Star Brand, they were attacked by Moon Knight on special orders of Khonshu, who wanted to unite the power of the mantles to subdue the incoming final mantle, The Phoenix Force, and turn them against Mephisto by a single champion. Moon Knight eventually defected from Khonshu, allowing the chosen champions to keep access to their mantles. However, the Phoenix Force didn’t have a current host, and it forced a number of heroes including Jen, to fight in a tournament for the honor of being the new Phoenix. Jen ultimately did not win.

    Empyre

    Cotati-possessed Hulk
    Cotati-possessed Hulk

When the Avengers were investigating a message from the Moon, they were met by Swordsman and Quoi of the Cotati. They wanted to warn the Avengers of a Skrull-Kree alliance that was headed for Earth. Meanwhile, Swordsman invited Jen to one of their gardens promising to fix the savage power upgrade of her Hulk form.

This was a trap, however. Jen was killed and possessed by a Cotati plant. No one could tell she had been taken over because she already had green skin, a side-effect of the possession process. Her teammates just assumed that the Swordsman had fixed her like he said he would.

After the Cotati people revealed their true plans, Mantis and members of the Fantastic Four tried to confront Quoi. This is when Jen’s Cotati parasite revealed itself and attacked them. Thanks to The Leader manipulating the Green Door to the Below Place, all gamma mutates proved to be immortal, thus Jen was able to make her way back to her body. With some encouraging words from Ben Grimm, Jen was able to overpower the Cotati infection and rejoin the fight.

    The Winter Hulk

    Winter Hulk
    Winter Hulk

With the help of Gorilla-Man, the Winter Guard is able to break into Avengers Mountain to arrest Jen for crimes against Russia. They rushed her through a trial and locked her up in The Red Room so they could turn her into an asset. They subjected her to even more radiation and a lot of psychological torture. When her team showed up to save her, the Russians were forced to expedite the process. Unfortunately, she was able to escape during the Avengers and Winter Guard fight with most of the Red Room’s process having been completed, making her The Winter Hulk.

This was all part of Jen's plans. The Agents of Wakanda had collected intel that political upheaval in Atlantis was caused by Russia and was planned to be the catalyst for a global upheaval. The Russians had a plan to use their mole in the Avengers to kidnap She-Hulk and turn her into their patsy. Once this was explained to Jen, she volunteered to go through Red Room training, confident she could not be broken.

After her escape, she heads to Atlantis, with Gorilla-Man by her side and the Avengers not far behind her, to evacuate Namor's people and protect them from the incoming Winter Guard. In the process, she absorbed 68 megatons of gamma radiation from a bomb Winterguard had used on Atlantis. Overflowing with power, Jen returned to Avengers Mountain where she released the energy at the heart of the Celestial, undoing Red Widow's sabotage of the mountain, as well as returning her to her original power levels and intellect.

To get her life back in order after her savage change, Jen takes a hiatus from being an Avenger.

    Back to Business

    Jack and Shulkie reunite
    Jack and Shulkie reunite

Back in the real world, Jen gets a job with a former co-worker, Mallory Book. She is set up in a spare apartment of The Wasp, and she even set up friendly fight club with Titania to work out their mutual aggression. Then, Jack of Hearts unexpectedly showed up at her door when the world, including She-Hulk, believing him to have died when he saved her on an Avengers mission.

Jack had little memory of how or why he had sought out Jen, but she did her best to make him comfortable until they could figure it out. Ultimately, they decided he needed medical help, not legal. Investigating his mysterious return led them to April and Mark Booth, gamma scientists that were trying and failing to use Jack's Zero Fluid to replicate She-Hulk's precise balance of gamma that grants her all the benefits and none of the drawbacks. Instead, they became gamma threats and to stop them Jack re-absorbed the Zero Fluid.

Back to full power, Jack mysteriously flies off and is missing for quite sometime. Meanwhile, Jen tries to get back to a normal life. She defends Doombot in a court that tries to pin Doctor Doom's crimes on him. She drinks and vents with Hellcat. Reckoning War

    No Caption Provided

She-Hulk jumps into action when the Badoon destroy The Moon and invade Earth with brand new weaponry. While fighting, she is visited by agents of the TVA, who hold her responsible for this war. After which, she is recruited to the Fantastic Four by Reed Richards after he absorbs the knowledge of the Watcher. She and Jack go with the Fantastic Four to Shi’ar space and defend the M’kraan crystal. Unfortunately, Ben was hurt so badly that it distracted the team and allowed the crystal to be taken.

Jen believed the crystal was taken to the one planet the Watchers’ can’t see: Obscura Minor, which can’t be seen due to Jen’s cosmic judicial ruling. Reed tapped into the Watcher’s knowledge of "traveling at night" to move them there. Once there, Jen and Jack gave Reed and Ben space after a nasty phone call only to fall into a Reckoning trap. Reed was able to save them by re-constructing a Forever Gate, but he would need Jack of Hearts to stay behind and power it. Jen protested, but Jack pushed her through the gate anyway.

She found herself on the Watcher home planet with a reunited Fantastic Four. They fought Wrath from getting to the Watcher power source while debating whether or not to use the Ultimate Nullifier, which would also kill the user. Thankfully, Reed was not killed by the Ultimate Nullifier, as it was designed to be used by a Watcher, which he had been turning into. Instead, it burned out the Watcher transformation. Uatu, who had absorbed all of the Watcher knowledge and power for himself, used the power to set everything right. He returned the heroes to their homes, including Jack of Heart, restored Galactus but with a hunger for knowledge, reassembled Earth’s Moon, and pulled the barrier down on the edge of space, increasing the universe by 90%.

    Gang War

After Hammerhead incites a gang war, Spider-Man is tasked by Mayor Luke Cage to put together a team to help suppress it. She-Hulk was among the recruits. After shutting down a fight between Crime Master and Ringmaster, the team realized the fight was too big and they needed to split up. She-Hulk would ultimately stay partnered with Spider-Man.

They were eventually approached by Tombstone, who had been hospitalized at the beginning of the war. He was concerned for his daughter, Beetle, who had gotten invested in the war while running her father's organization while he healed. Knowing Tombstone had been trying to go legit, Spider-Man agreed to help, and She-Hulk trusted Spider-Man's decision. After receiving intel from Kingpin, they realized they needed to reunite the team to stop a duel in Central Park between two of the few gangs still standing: Madame Masque's Maggia and Beetle's Syndicate.

Jen and Spider-Man reunited the team in Central Park to stop a showdown. Their fellow ally, Tombstone, saw an opportunity to usurp his own daughter as the head of the territories north of Central Park. He ordered his new gangs to retreat. With just Masque's gang to contend with, Jen and the other heroes were able to overwhelm them.

In the aftermath, the vigilante law is repealed.

    Powers

She-Hulk is able to lift more than 100 tons
She-Hulk is able to lift more than 100 tons

In human form, Jennifer Walters has the normal strength and durability of a physically fit woman in very good health. She also possesses an above average (but not superhuman) level of intelligence, and is trained in hand-to-hand combat as well possessing some martial arts training.

As She-Hulk her powers are similar to those of her powerful cousin, the Hulk. She has great superhuman strength, endurance, and healing abilities. Unlike the Hulk, she usually retains her intelligence and an ability to transform between Jennifer Walters and She-Hulk. Rather than being triggered by anger, she can change at will. This ability has been lost at certain points, leaving her either only as Jennifer Walters or only as She-Hulk for extended periods of time.

When transforming in and out of She-Hulk form, Jennifer gains and loses mass in the form of body size as well as additional muscle mass. When changing into She-Hulk, her body and hair also take on a distinctly greenish hue. Although the She-Hulk's strength originally remained at a set level and did not increase, later in her history her strength increases as her anger grows, similar to her cousin the Hulk. If she increases her strength level as Jennifer Walters, her strength level as She-Hulk will be vastly greater than it would be otherwise. She has used this to her advantage in the past, using weight training as Jennifer Walters to make her much more powerful than normal as She-Hulk. A side effect of utilizing this facet of her power is that in She-Hulk form her muscle mass increases, making her much larger.

As She-Hulk, her base level is slightly below the Thing's in strength; he came out ahead in their most recent strength contest. However, with sufficient anger, her strength can easily bypass that of Grimm. She is impervious to most forms of physical attack and possesses a considerable healing factor.

She has also gained the ability to perform the Ovoid mind switch, but as a byproduct of being She-Hulk, when she performs it she switches the physical characteristics and powers of the person in question instead of their mind. Like her cousin, the Hulk, she is also capable of absorbing gamma rays or energy in massive quantities, as well as generating explosions on a nuclear scale. She-Hulk was able to punch Doc Samson to another state and defeat the Champion with the Power Gem. Also, she was able to lift the Thing's greatest working out mass with one hand and realize that she could beat Hercules easily in arm wrestling.

    Skills

    The hottest lawyer ever!

Even aside from her superhuman powers, Jennifer is very skilled at hand-to-hand combat, being personally trained by Captain America. She has displayed martial arts skills in her human form as well. Jennifer often uses her sex appeal to aid her in fights against male opponents. Jennifer is also a skilled pilot.

In addition to her fighting skills and her incredible strength, Jennifer is a very intelligent woman. She received a degree in criminal law prior to becoming the She-Hulk and is a highly accomplished lawyer. She usually practices law as Jennifer Walters, but sometimes appears in her more striking She-Hulk form when she wishes to make a more dramatic impression in court. Jennifer is one of the few super-heroines to have acquired a college degree in the Marvel Universe.

    Personality

When She-Hulk first appeared in Savage She-Hulk, her personality was different from the current modern version. Back then, she was short-tempered, violent, and demanding. However, her personality eventually changed throughout the years, and she becomes a more kind and sweet person, while retaining confidence in herself. She wouldn't be too angry during fights, She-Hulk actually jokes around more often now. Also, now that Jennifer is comfortable being She-Hulk, she uses the She-Hulk form on a more regular basis.

    The Fourth Wall

She-Hulk has the ability to break the Fourth Wall, which is a barrier between the comic books and the readers. With this ability, it allows her to be aware of the readers and what the writers are doing to her. She-Hulk is also aware that she is a comic book character. Sometimes, She-Hulk would engage in arguments with the writer himself. There was one point where She-Hulk complained to the editor about the writer’s writing. Also, with this ability it allowed She-Hulk to jump through pages in order to get to her destinations faster. For example, in one comic, She-Hulk jumped and ran through advertisements that were in the comic book in order to get to her enemies’ secret hide out faster and easier.

She-Hulk talking through the fourth wall
She-Hulk talking through the fourth wall

In the second volume of She-Hulk, writers have toned down her ability to break the fourth wall. Meaning she is still very aware of it, but she does not go overboard and get into a heated argument with the writers. For example, in She-Hulk volume 2 issue 3, she was asked if she was able to interact with the readers in which she replied “no” while looking at the direction of the reader. However, they still use her ability to break the fourth wall in the second volume in which she would use old comics of Stan Lee and Jack Kirby’s run on Fantastic Four and bring up the Comics Code of Authority as evidence in one of her cases.
