Sabor is a generic term for female big cats in the Tarzan series by Edgar Rice Burroughs (1875-1950) and continuations or adaptations of it. Originally Burroughs created the term to mean "tiger" in the language of the Mangani. Realizing too late the setting of his story was Africa while tigers are an Asian species. Burroughs decided to change Sabor to mean lion. But he had already established the word/name "Numa" for lions. He retconned Numa to be the descriptive name for males and Sabor that for females. Later adaptations expanded the name to (female) leopards, ignoring the term "Sheeta" created by Burroughs for that purpose.
