As much as I loved the 2009 Watchmen adaptation (And I DO love it, it's one of my all-time favorite movies) I have wondered to myself often...What if Benicio Del Toro was casted as Rorschach instead of Jackie Earle Haley. Jackie Earle Haley delivered a fantastic performance, but I do feel he could have been better. Behold Benicio Del Toro, my all-time favorite actor. Del Toro has played hardasses, tortured souls, sociopaths and law enforcers...Wrap that up in a convenient passage and you have Rorschach. He can be creepy, sympathetic, badass, tough, all traits needed to play Walter Kovacs. A lot of people will point out Del Toro's race; Del Toro is Puerto Rican, Rorschach is white. However, I think that changing Rorschach's race might not only be acceptable but actually intriguing. Having Rorschach bullied as a child because of racial hatred and prejudice in addition to his mother being a whore would be very interesting. I could definitely see why Rorschach would have such a negative view on humanity. Maybe have Del Toro be an illegal immigrant who was smuggled into America. For those who doubt this casting, here are some clips from other movies that enforce my idea that Del Toro would be a great Rorschach.
