Marvel Knights: Spider-Man #3 - 99 Problems... Three of Five: Combat

4

Spider-Man continues fighting villain after villain in the trippiest comic you'll read this week.

The Good

This series has been a wild ride so far. Matt Kindt has given us a great scenario that allows Spider-Man to be immersed in a battle against so many of his enemies. Spider-Man's rogues gallery has always stood out compared to other heroes so what more could we ask for?

Enter Marco Rudy. Geez Louise, is he doing some crazy things in this series. We may know we're going to see Spider-Man fight against numerous enemies but Rudy's delivery is unpredictable. Each page has a different layout and the art style changes from page to page. Val Staples' colors enhance all this making it so you need to pause and take it all in in order to appreciate all the details.

As Spider-Man fights his way from battle to battle, Kindt even throws another villain not normally associated with Spider-Man at us. It's all getting crazier and crazier.

The Bad

While the story is fascinating and the art is top notch, it's starting to feel like just fight after fight. That's cool and all but we're not really getting closer to finding out what's going on. Perhaps the change in demeanor of some of his foes is something we should look at more closely, it feels like we're just getting trippy fight after trippy fight.

The Verdict

With this being the third issue in the series, you know the amazing things you can expect. There's plenty of more fighting going on with Marco Rudy's incredible art and Val Staples gorgeous colors. It is starting to feel like an endless mix of battles but Matt Kindt does throw a couple curveballs at us in this issue. If you're interested in a Spider-Man story not relying on other context and want your socks to get knocked off, you should be reading this series.
