Justice League #48 - Darkseid War Act Three: Gods of Justice Chapter 2: Crime Pays

4

You know things are bad for the Justice League when they're forced to team up with the Crime Syndicate.

The Darkseid War continues, and I'm digging it. DC has done a little experimenting with putting a focus on story first. A question many have had is "where does this story fit in with the other DC titles?" While that is a question, it's been fantastic watching the Justice League take part in a massive and epic story. The Justice League is DC's big guns. It makes sense for them to have to face such a huge threat. I love that Geoff Johns and Jason Fabok get to tell their story on their own terms. We've had some one-shots, but the story's been self-contained within this series rather than spread out to multiple titles.

With the threat of the Anti-Monitor, the Justice League has no choice but to join forces with the Crime Syndicate. They claim to know how to stop him. They're the ones that managed to survive when he destroyed their world. Seeing the League and the Syndicate in the same room strikes the type of reaction you would expect. It may be a case of "The enemy of my enemy..." but you know this alliance is going to be pretty shaky, at best.

This chapter has a nice mix of continuing to set up the story while also delivering some sweet action shots. Forming an alliance with the Crime Syndicate wouldn't be an easy task. It's great to see how Johns makes the scene work. I think we can all agree that Fabok is a beast when it comes to the art. It's not all setup and action sequences as we do see a pretty big consequence in facing the Anti-Monitor.

JUSTICE LEAGUE features DC's biggest characters and Geoff Johns is giving us his biggest story yet. The long-running story continues and the surprises keep coming. Jason Fabok does an incredible job on the art and Brad Anderson's colors are top notch. This is definitely a story I'll want to read over again. This is what a Justice League story should be all about.
