Green Lantern #27 - Harsh Realities

on the spoiler there on mogo right so how come she didnt see this or did i miss something?

Oh yeah the events in this comics was crazy, awesome, and can't wait to read the next issue.

I loved this issue things have defiantly picked up. It will be interesting see everyone rebelling against The Greens I wonder how that's going to affect Guy and The Reds if at all?

Great issue. The Corps can't catch its breath. This feels like the greatest threat they've ever faced because it isn't as direct as previous ones.

How the Green Lanterns are still alive? Thats a question.

Disappointing

Hal Jordan seems dull and becoming an incompetent character. I might consider dropping this title.

I'm not a fan of Vendittis run ...I might actually drop this title till a better writer comes along.

@mysoulz: I wouldn't call him incompetent, just not exactly suited to this level of leadership at such an incredibly tempestuous time. Naturally, he's gonna make some big mistakes. Part of the fun is seeing if he's going to crumble permanently or rise from the ashes and kick some a**. Anyway, thats just my two cents.

@avenging_x_bolt: There's no applied logic to his character as it should have been. Hal's got one of the best training for the corps that was given, both mentally and physically, along with experiences in intergalactic threats centering around him, so he shouldn't be portrayed like he's unaware and thoughtless in poor decisions in tactics, regardless whether he fits the leadership role or not, in my opinion. I was expecting more out of the character. And Hal being knocked from behind, wearing a ring that gives auto-protection and provides no sort of precognition with it's functionality is poor writing if you ask me.

The art is good and the creative team are giving out equal balances on each human lantern compared to previous writers, which is good.

@mysoulz: Totally agree. Hal's been through the worst and always knows what to do, maybe if this was a rookie Hal than this would be acceptable, but it's not. For reason stated above I might drop the box, Venditti is just not doing it for me. Shame really :(

I agree with your analysis of Hal's writing on Venditti's run. I'm all for turning Hal into somewhat of a villain, but they're writing him as some clumsy oaf of a new recruit, and it's irritating not because of the character development but because of the lazy writing. And it is lazy writing.

Moving on, I hate this art. I h a t e this art. Maybe I'm just spoiled from GL: New Guardian's art, but I've been none too pleased with this title's, lines or color.

Right now, the only reason I still pick up this title is because Geoff John's mythology has had such an impact on how I live my day-to-day life that I can't imagine not having a weekly dose of Green Lantern. That being said, the post-Johns era hasn't been my favorite by any means, and I'm not just saying this because of my love for Geoff's writing (GL or not). This title feels like it's being written by people who are still trying to clumsily learn the mythos and fully understand the characters. That may have been somewhat of a viable excuse the first two, maybe three issues, but definitely not this far along.

We keep getting action, action, action. There's no room to breathe or evaluate the situation they're in, and in the writing, there's no appreciation for the characters and their emotions and how they interact with each other as friends. Hal, John, Guy, and Kyle used to be a family, but now they just seem like strangers, and I'm left to grieve for their friendship because this title sure doesn't seem to acknowledge any of that.

I'm extremely disappointed.

I HATED the art in this issue. A few pages in I got used to it and thought it wasn't so bad, but Hal Jordan was drawn terribly imo.

The thing that's really chapping my buttocks with this issue is this: HOW did the Durlans and Braid Clann set up this elaborate scheme to frame Hal Jordan and the rest of the GLC? No one, other than the various Lantern Corps, knew that their use of the spectrum was draining the reservoir until Hal landed on Dekann and exclaimed that Nol-Anj's use of the emotional spectrum was illegal. So how the f*&^ did the Braid Clann, the Durlans, AND apparently the Khund (over in the GLC series) have the time to get together for a little pow-wow and decide they could use this to their advantage in the time between Hal attempting to arrest Nol-Anj and the Braid Clann prisoners landing on Mogo?

I understand that the Durlans and Khund have been up to no good for a while now, but I just don't understand how they could've known Hal was going to start policing the use of the light, and also how they could've known that he would go after Nol-Anj immediately after making his decree against other ringwielders. It just doesn't jive with me. Unless Relic and his whole story were somehow fabricated by the Khund/Durlan/Braid Clann pact, and they've been playing chess with the Corps all along (I really doubt it, though).

If I've totally missed something, please set me straight, because I want to support this book. The finite light angle is brilliant, but the plothole I've pointed out here is big enough to drive a Mack truck through, in my opinion. So if one of you understands it in a way I don't, please, let me know!

In issue #26, Hal loudly announced that Nol-Anj was under arrest for illegal use of the emotional spectrum if I remember correctly, and throughout their fight. Nol-Anj questioned his laws, so maybe the tribe heard them? I dunno. Hopefully things will be explained next issue. I have faith in Venditti.

I understand that the Braid Clann would've heard Hal exclaim his new law while trying to bring in Nol-Anj, but that would've been the first time they'd heard about it. I just don't see them having enough time to reach out to the Durlans and the Khund AFTER Hal landed on Dekann, and say "Hey, guys, we've got this really kooky diabolical idea that will destroy the GLC".

I hope Venditti is able to make it make sense, and stick the landing on this story. I've went back and forth on whether or not I like his run; some of it is really intriguing and captivating, some of it just really bothers me. If he doesn't explain how the Braid Clann/Durlans/Khund set all this up, I'm probably gonna drop this book.

Totally agree. I have nothing but love for Geoff Johns entire run, it's one of my favorites in comic history but since Venditti has taken over this title I just feel he has nothing only destroyed the GLC in the DCnU but he has also destroyed them in reality. It went from being my favorite GL book to my least favorite. Heavily considering dropping all three GL books with the except of Red Lanterns.

Ok, I went back and read issue #26 again, and it cleared up my complaint in my earlier post. There were Durlans on Dekann before Hal arrived to arrest Nol-Anj. There's a Durlan on Mogo who had already infiltrated the Corps, and had relayed the information about the Corps' use of light destroying the universe to the rest of the baddies, including the Braid Clann and Nol-Anj. That gave the Durlans and Braid Clann the window to set the trap for the GLC.

The question I have now is, why is there a hole blown in the wall of the infirmary when Saint Walker wakes up? Soranik makes the comment about Mogo being good at terraforming four walls and a roof, but not beds and pillows, so I would assume they're in an area Mogo built and not the Citadel. If they were in the Citadel, it would stand to reason it might be pretty banged up from the explosion of Oa and/or the crash landing on Mogo, but it leads you to believe the scene takes place elsewhere. Mogo's not been attacked that I can remember since John Stewart had her terraform the new city. Any thoughts?
