Age of Ultron #6 - Book Six

3

The heroes have split up to take on two different missions. This issue takes the series in a different direction.

The Good

We are now seeing some action and direction in the series. As we are now in the sixth issue, we're seeing the heroes make their move to try to save the day. Of course it won't be easy with so much damage already done. This causes the story to go in two separate directions as the decision has been made to try to take two different approaches to try to defeat Ultron.

With so much at stake, you do get a sense of the desperation the heroes are faced with. This opens it up to a different sort of story. In the average Marvel comic, there are limitations as to what the heroes can and cannot do. Here, it's all up for grabs. That gives the story the sense of the unknown and keeps readers on their toes.

We knew a change of artists was coming and because of how the story plays out, it's an acceptable change. There is always the question of how stories will read when collected when they feature different art styles. The use of different artists here may accomodate the schedule of the series' release and also serves to distinguish between the different angles of the story.

The Bad

With time travel involved, things can always get messy. It used to be in the Marvel Universe you could not travel back in time and change the present. This is something mentioned several times in FANTASTIC FOUR over the years and something that you would think Sue Richards or the others would know.

The mission the main group takes just feels rushed. With the method (mentioned above) used, you would think they could afford a little more time to prepare. Thinking it all out could apply to both factions actually. Wolverine didn't think about what repercussions his mission could have on the others while they were on theirs.

The change in the art can be overlooked due to the shipping schedule of the book and all. Despite the 'reason' we could apply for having different styles, it still gives the story a slightly different feel, especially since the previous issue came out just last week.

The Verdict

The odds are stacked against the heroes. We're finally seeing them make a move. With the heroes going off in two different directions, it'll be interesting to see how the two 'missions' coincide with each other. Due to the nature of how they're carrying out their missions, it seems they should have taken a little bit more time to plan everything out. The different missions also allows for an acceptable reason to have different artists on this issue. There are still some interesting aspects of the story taking place. It just feels, with the different directions of the story, it's starting to go all over the place. There will be some repercussions to see in the following issues. I have no idea what's coming up and that's a good thing.

I wasn't a big fan of the first two issues but I'm liking the rest. I don't dwell on details too much and I'm not a huge fan of the art, but the overall story does have a feel of that epic even I was expecting.

Could be better, but I'm liking it.

I can't believe Cap was killed off in that one panel so suddenly and unexpectedly, we didn't even get to see any response from the other characters really.

This issue had some shocking moments and I just wonder what will come next. It hasn't been perfect but it's getting interesting.

know right! They can't just go willey-nilley killing off really popular characters with little to no reaction! It is just like Black Panther! But, with time travel, and with Wolverine already messing with the timeline, you can't really decide on what to expect. Also, I like the spoiler block, it is fun to play with.

Based on these reviews, it's making me glad I saved my money and didn't invest in this story.

I think this was the best issue yet.

In "The Bad" - yes, the fantastic four have mentioned it several times but Wolverine directly addresses it to Sue with the "one death vs. billions" argument and she reluctantly agrees.

It might be his consciousness in a robot body or maybe Ultron gets reverted back to factory settings or gains a conscious because of Pym and takes his Appearance out of guilt.

No Wolverine vs. Spider, Moon Knight and Hawkeye? The jump was off for me... Like I thought Bendis was writing this thing for years.... The issur felt very rushed.

There's no time to plan because Ultron is all knowing! He knows where the Heroes are. He could strike at any time. Hence why they had to enact a plan, and quickly. Sure neither are perfect but they're better than letting Ultron win.

thank god I'm not wasting money on this slow event like AvX. $4 for a book which almost comes out every week and barely anything happens in it is pushing it.

How in the hell was Hank, in his grown state, not able to overpower Wolverine in the 10-15 second window when one of his hands is frozen in place by Sue and the other is only fish-hooking the corner of his mouth. What a puss.

I actually thought this was the best issue yet. I almost dropped the book a few issues back, maybe #3 or #4? the art was getting sloppy and felt rushed and I questioned Red Hulk killing Taskmaster. It just felt unjust and stupid. I mean doing that just because he was scared and ran away doesn't make sense. But I stuck with it and it is finally paying off, this issue was great! That splash page of Pym and Wolverine was Swweeet! Oh yeah, and stealing Fury's car was priceless.

Clearly G-Man is being paid by DC to keep the reviews low!!! J/K. I'll disagree a little bit with the rating. The future storyline did feel a bit rushed, but I did enjoy the past storyline. I think there was a good payoff, and that coupled with the previews for upcoming issues shows that the end will definitely have some unintended consequences. The slow pacing concerns are definitely valid, but I'm inclined to overlook them a bit because of the quick shipping schedule.

The event is OKAY, not bad but not great. I do enjoy reading it, it's the tie-ins that are frustrating to read as they're hit and miss.

I think the time to really judge this series is going to be next issue. When something enormous happens like it did this issue, it needs to have equally big repercussions--equally big reasons for it to have happened, story-wise. I think Wolverine's plan was ridiculous--I'm sure, for example, that Hank has been involved in saving humanity at various points in the past, so now that won't have happened. There won't be a Vision, and again I'm sure that would have a huge impact on humanity (partially good--Scarlet Witch won't have married him and had pretend babies and gone insane!), no Jocasta, no Victor Mancha. Probably no other Ant-Men and Goliaths, no Stature, no female Yellowjacket who goes into the Guardians of the Galaxy. Big chain reaction, and it should be dealt with seriously.

Wolverine's comment at the end--something like "the new future has got to be better than the world we just left" gives me some hope that Bendis is playing with expectations and is going to make the new, Pym-less world even worse than it was before.

@bluealchemist: I didn't read this book cause it just seems like grim garbage, but someone sent me that page, and I have to say, I laughed pretty hard.

At this point, A-Listers need to die unceremoniously if they make books like Avengers Arena made specifically to kill off Other characters with NO wrap up whatsoever.

This event certainly is crazy. Also i think that the preview image to the next issue could be what the characters look like because of what Wolverine and Sue did.

Its unbelievable that THIS got a 4 star rating over at CBR, while Wonder Woman #19 got a mere 3.5. Ugh, sometimes I think CBR just has a staff full of idiots.

I am loving this event. I don't see how alot of people don't like it. First, people said that it was too slow and that nothing happens. Now, people are saying that things are happening too fast. You are doing a great job Bendis and I don't care what anyone thinks.

Having these deaths left and right is one reason why I am loving this series! Indie comics have always had the upper hand in that category, so it is fun seeing these heroes go in a more realistic way. It's so hard to predict now that the normal Marvel rules are out the door!

We have to wait two years for Hitch's artwork, and he can't even finish the series?! I love his artwork, but it wasn't worth the wait. And whoever drew this issue (I can't be bothered to look) is dragging this story down even further with incompetent art.

I love Bendis's work. He's done some amazing things at Marvel. This isn't one of them. I wouldn't be surprised to find Victoria Principal in the shower in the last issue...

The Bad

With time travel involved, things can always get messy. It used to be in the Marvel Universe you could not travel back in time and change the present. This is something mentioned several times in FANTASTIC FOUR over the years and something that you would think Sue Richards or the others would know.

Yeah Marvel seems to have throw that restriction into the trash with the way they talk about the young x-men in All-New X-Men. I'm really glad you mentioned that though, because it bothered me a lot and I was starting to think I had misunderstood a lot over the years. Especially when so many people on here didn't seem to think there was a problem with altering the past to change the future in the all-new x-men threads.

What happened to Hank was awful. It makes me really scared about what's going to happen at the end of this event. I find it funny that Doc Ock was the moral one saying it would be "morally horrific."

I can't believe Cap was killed off in that one panel so suddenly and unexpectedly, we didn't even get to see any response from the other characters really.

That's kind of been the whole point of the event so far.... What we're you expecting them to do? Shove all their reactions into one page at the end??
