A little more focus on action here.

It has been five years since the destruction of Raccoon City, and the culprit of the tragedy, the T-Virus, an airborne agent that re-animates the dead turning them into flesh craving zombies has spread throughout the world. Life on the planet is almost non existent, and the Earth itself is slowly dying. One of the survivors, Claire Redfield (Ali Larter), leads a well armed convoy with their only mission being to stay alive. Alice (Milla Jovovich) is on the run by avoiding Umbrella's detection, while a scientist by the name of Dr. Isaac (Iain Glen) seeks her capture. -summary

Normally sequels have a notorious reputation to decline in quality and become even worse movies as the number increases. In the case of the Resident Evil movie franchise, this appears to be the exact opposite. Resident Evil: Extinction is a pretty good improvement over the last one Resident Evil: Apocalypse, and it's leaps and bounds beyond the first movie. Directed by Russell Mulcahy, this third sequel which is based off the hit video game by Capcom is by far the most action packed and brutal by this point. The action scenes are fairly entertaining, and I believe they do a decent enough job covering up the flaws in the very predictable plot.

There are plenty of moments with some good action via gunfire and hand to hand. Alice has become a pure killing machine by this time, wielding two sharp blades along with her fire arms. She deals out a good dose of quick paced mayhem. While the rest of the cast do a fairly good job laying the undead to rest with some good clean shots to the head. The zombie action is also a little better this time with the gore scenes; but that's not really saying much when compared to the first two movies. In comparison with other zombie films before this such as Dawn of the Dead or Day of the Dead, these scenes will not exactly please the diehard zombie fan because they have seen much better. The special effects and CG laden moments are pretty good, and I thought the design of the deformed Tyrant monster was done well.

The plot is also a lot better this time, with two sub-plots taking place and they both collide with each other into one huge showdown. Claire's convoy are traveling from one town to the next searching for gas and food, and during this time they happen to watch their numbers shrink as they run into one zombie disaster after the other. The people begin to lose hope, until they learn that there's a chance they can find survivors in a place that hasn't been infected. Dr. Issac's agenda makes up the second sub plot as he seeks to civilize the undead, which is derivative of Romero's third film. I also have to mention the tonal consistency found here. Mike Epps returns as L.J., but there is no forced comedy here at all, in fact, I'll go so far to say it's almost non existent and things pretty much stay serious. If I have any issues with the movie it's definitely with the predictable plot. I mean just about everything can be seen rather quickly and it becomes a matter of how it's going to take place. Milla steals the show only through the action segments really as far as acting is concerned. There's really no one I can say was good or bad to the point where they deserve a serious mention.

Resident Evil: Extinction does contain at least one small element from the game that only fans will recognize such as the Crimson Head zombies, other than that, there's very little reminiscent of the game here. I would have a serious issue with that but since the action was pretty good I can ignore it. Overall, this is the best sequel by this point, and it will more than likely appeal to action fans, as well as those girls out there searching for that kick ass heroine. The movie has a 95 minute run time.

    Pros: Action and gore

    Cons: Very predictable

Zero new ideas - and yet still quite entertaining 0

Milla Jovovich is back (and no she isn't carrying two uzis in the film) So here we go with another Resident Evil film. Again, Paul W. S. Anderson writes, though he doesn't direct. This time Alice is on the run from the Umbrella Corporation who believe she is the key to stopping the T-virus plague that has turned most of the world's population into ravenous zombies. She meets up with a group of nomads who travel from town to town in a convoy of vehicles trying to eke out a life by scavenging what ...
