Red Hood and the Outlaws #0
The art is fairly good in this issue. Kenneth Rocafort is no longer drawing but Pasqual Ferry does a fairly good job at drawing the life of Jason Todd. His style is very simple and sometimes a little quirky. The expressions are minimal but strong in this issue. The backup feature has very strong art with a sketchy feeling to it and very strong emotions. The story is telling us the new origin of Jason Todd. It does a good job at making Jason come off as likable in a bad situation. Seeing his parents meeting and getting in fights and the eventually the arrest adds a lot to the character. There is also mention to A Death in the Family where Jason dies and Scott Lobdell does it very well. Scott Lobdell captures Joker very well. He breaks the 4th wall but it's not a huge deal and he comes off as funny but dangerously smart. The inner dialog was strong to me because it explains some of the things that he wanted to say to Batman before he died. That was a great part of this issue and it gets you excited to see them in The Death of the Family coming up.
THE BAD:
There probably should have been a little more info on how Jason came back. They mention the Lazarus Pit but they don't mention who brought him there or why. This issue could have focused a little more on him being Robin. If they did that we could really have much more emotion when his doom comes because we don't really know what has happened between these two characters with the New 52.
THE VERDICT: 4/5 (Great)
This is a great issue and the series has been getting better each issue. Scott Lobdell manages to take a character that we all ready know and add a lot to the character in a whole issue. This issue really covers everything about the character and if you like Jason, this is something that you are going to want to get because it really does do a good job at making the character much deeper in the New 52. If you have been following the series, then this is also something that you are going to want to check out. If you are interesting in the Death of the Family, then this is also something that you are going to want to get. A good, solid issue.
