Punishment For All My Sins
I didn't expect much for this going in. Marvel always does a weekly series on the 5 week months. Some are pretty good (AVX Consequences) some are not (Deadpool Kills The Marvel Universe).
But judging from this first issue, unless the series nose dives fast, this is going to set the standard for the "Weekly Mini-Series".
A man and his family is gunned down in the park. Eerily similar to what happened to Frank Castle's family. Frank Castle refers to himself as a "monster that kills monsters" and this case has piqued his interest. Frank does some detective work and finds out who is responsible, in order to deal some justice. Of course things go a little different than expected.
I loved the last Punisher series from Greg Rucka. I'm going to go even further and say it was the best series that character has had. This Punisher is different enough, and that's a good thing. I'm not a fan of rehashes. So basically Frank wears the old school uniform and has both eyes.
This book has hardly any dialogue, the story is told from Frank's inner thoughts, and through a diary of the man gunned down.
I can't wait for next week to see what happens. Funny, Marvel cancelled the last series because it didn't sell. However, January is the month of Punisher at Marvel. He is going to be in 7 books this month. Maybe they are testing the waters for another monthly series. But whatever, this book was great, and his highly recommended.
