Jimmy Olsen: Who's a clever boy?

And so, Ulyverse's love for Jimmy Olsen begins...

In all seriousness, it's been bothering me this one. In his Pre-Flashpoint origin story, the 2007 version (which is my least favourite for various reasons) it is said that Jimmy use to skip classes to go to University lectures. Now, he was doing this at the beginning of secondary school (so he was around 11-12ish, I think that's Junior High to the US?) We're suppose to be getting the feeling of "Jimmy's super clever and really advanced!" However, due to writers really neglecting him recently (in my opinion anyway) we've not seen a clever side to him. I love Jimmy, I think he's brilliant. What if they decided one day to explore that? I mean, how clever is he? Sure, he's just human but quite a few characters who are just human have advanced in their intellect. But then we have a classic argument of: well, if Jimmy's so clever why hasn't he figured out that Clark is Superman? Which would of course just create silly loop holes like the Devil blocking everyone from finding out who Superman is. Could you imagine is a superhero did that?! Oh. Wait...

Anyway, back to Jimmy. If they did want to make him a brain box, I'd honestly make him an artist of sorts. Why? Because he's a brilliant photographer, having an understanding in graphics/art would be useful. The other option for me is that they make him a genius Computer Whiz. They could make him the maintainer of the Daily Planet website. He should be doing HTML and coding the Superman Fan club site. So there are a couple of options if they ever chose to make him clever. But saying all that, I originally forgot a very important one: detective skills. When I mean detective skills, I mean he can look at a scene's photos pick up stuff from there. Nowhere near the Bat-family of course but, surely there could be such awesome possibilities of him investigating against LexCorp. I know quite a lot of people around the place online that could imagine Jimmy Olsen becoming a private detective or something. So, we could have a character with awesome understanding of computers, art and detectiveness.

The main thing about all of this. What's the point of making Jimmy clever? There are LOADS of geniuses around the place. Recently, Jimmy's been used as a background character to A) Be kidnapped B) Be a plot device and C) get powers. I believe something I once heard someone say was 'the only thing Jimmy is best at is gaining and losing powers'. I love the King of the Silver Age side of Jimmy Olsen as much as the next man but, we could have a very in depth character who's clever but struggles with his self confidence. So, could Jimmy Olsen being an actual smart character on a genius level intellect of sorts be a good move? I'll you decide, I for one am all for it.

Thanks to listening to my preaching Comicvine,

Who the hell is this guy?

The horror! THE HORROR! He has been skulking around Comicvine, posting, questing, writing! Such terrors lurk behind the corner, goodness knows what he has planned for his next! (Definitely not editing pages, that's for sure). I'm of course a 'noob' who recently joined and am still a nervous wreck about commenting anywhere or posting. That's not because everyone is horrible and stuff, but Comicvine (well for me) has always been that big comicbook online community that I darn't join because I'd be out of my league. I was like the Justice League Detroit to the Morrison Run of JLA! But eventually, realising that my hopeful career path will take me to the land of comic books in some way shape or form, IF I ever got big here then it'd be good. This of course depends on my dedication and not giving up along the way at all. I wouldn't say i was expert on everything but I know my way around things.

I've mentioned it before: The Flash, JSA, Jimmy Olsen, Time Masters (well, time travel in general) are the things that I know about. Over the pond in Marvel, I'm definitely a huge Spider-Man fan. I'm about to hit the big 150 comics very, very soon. I'm a big fan of Marvel in general, the 1990s, Fear Itself, some magic things, X-Men and Cosmic stuff are the places I get lost. But overall, I know my stuff (or at least I hope I do!). And then recently, I've been slowly reading a lot of 2000AD, to keep the UK Comic Industry living.

So, who is Ulyverse? Well, evidently he's me. I'm a roleplayer (the old tabletop along with text based stuff online) and a comicbook fan. I'm also into science fiction and have been growing onto the idea of horror (It's actually because I'm running 'Call of Cthulhu' and require to read a lot of HP Lovecraft). I've been into comics since I was around 8, I'm currently in my mid-teens. I live in the United Kingdom, Wales to be precise. It's a smaller country than England without kilts and it has its own language. (For those of you who are still unsure, I have a map prepared). And frankly, I'm perhaps one of the only comicbook geeks around in good old Wales. The internet is where I've decided to express a lot of it nowadays.

My dream at the moment is become a huge successful comicbook write, which I imagine a lot of people are aiming for the same goal on this site alone. If Comicbook writing doesn't become true, I'm going to become a journalist but work for comicbook magazines such as Wizard and over in the UK we have Comicbook Superheroes, which has a lot of the latest scoops of stuff. Well, I hope that everyone gets to find out that I have a voice and that I build up the confidence to properly go on the battle threads and possibly try and edit an article! (I might post a review up at some point, I have fanfic ready to be posted here too).

Thanks all,

Ulyverse
