Words like violence, break the silence 0

This issue has two problems that tear my logical thinking apart. The first one being: how does Kruun's blade can hurt Kitty while she can't touch it? Wouldn't it just, you know, have the effect of a stone thrown into Casper? How does her hand passes through it but it cuts her shoulder at the same time? The second is when you're planning on taking down half of the X-Men's the-first-you-will-go-to-in-case-if-an-alien-is-killing-your-boyfriend roster I'm pretty sure you don't leave Wolverine for la...

Evil is alive and well 0

Teen Titans versus The Rogues versus Deathstroke versus some unsolved personal issues versus your money.   dooG ehT No offense to J.T. Krul but this is Teen Titans I really wanna read about. After the Deathtrap crossover and a couple of Blackest Night tie-ins I've struggled to like the main title badly. With this year's Henderson's run the book was on the brink of disaster and, frankly, even J.T. couldn't make me worry about this team again. And what was my surprise when a little one-shot calle...

Darkness at the break of noon 0

Written by David Liss and drawn by Francisco Francavilla, Black Panther: The Man Without Fear brings T'Challa back into the game of big guns. It was quiet unexpected that a relatively new writer will produce such a coherent story, in which, and that's my biggest surprise, minor characters are at least in ten times more interesting than Black Panther himself. This issue doesn't somehow reveals new facets of character or whatever but keeps your attention on all the people that surround him. And, t...

It can melt the snow 0

Written by Christos Gage and drawn by Tom Raney, issue #7 of Avengers Academy delivers 22 pages full of fun. I've never thought Raney's art could get me excited but here we are and I'm sort of looking on his work from a different angle now. This comic book has so much joy in it, it's so shiny, the colors are so bright, it just turns you on and you feel this pleasant warmth in your stomach and it's pretty cool. The story itself focuses on Hank Pym's identity struggle and manages to let you dig in...

The One With the last page resurrection 0

Matt Fraction and Pasqual Ferry are continuing to deliver one of the best Marvel ongoing.  The GoodEverything. Really, I don't say it very often but, seriously, everything. Unlike Kieron Gillen (and I absolutely loved his Thor stories), who has been writing this title like a hardcore rock CD, Matt Fraction with each issue creates a wonderful fairytale, which strikes and holds your imagination in a constant leap of never ending orgasms. Ferry's pencils are magnificent and his work on the each of ...

Moscow doesn't have that kind of hotels 3

The first review in a new format. Being like a top Comicviner, yep.   The Good Fabian Nicieza is hitting his second arc on Red Robin. To be honest, I was a fan of this series since its launch and all the twelve issue that a magnificent Christ Yost managed to write were one of the greatest comic-book experience of 2009 and partly 2010 years. And as a dedicated follower I was really worried after the news of Yost's departure and Nicieza-dude continuing his work. I remembered quite well his Robin...

Not so much about the issue itself 0

I have been with Ultimate Universe since it's bombastic beginning. Ultimate Spider-Man, X-Men, Ultimates, F4, Bendis, Millar, Ellis, Bagley, Kubert - basically, I grew up on 'em. At that time it was really cool to see a fresh take on Marvel's well-known characters and every issue was like an exciting re-introduction trip with some pretty great plot ideas. I was one of the few who really liked Ultimatum & thought that it was awesome. Ultimate U always was a more realistic sandbox than Marvel-...

Don't you want somebody to love? Don't you need somebody to love? 0

Oh, my stars and garters! I'm usually reading comics while my iTunes randomly picks & plays songs. Bob Dylan, David Bowie, The Mountain Goats, Janis Joplin, Regina Spektor etc. But when I was reading UCNU #3 it was like only one song I could think of.    *Historical Footnote* Once upon a time, Rolling Stone magazine compiled a list of the 500 Greatest Songs of All Time. This one was ranked #274. Written by Great Society guitarist Darby Slick in 1966 and released on November 3 it received a ...

Crowbars are cool 1

Here is the thing: Morrison is pretty crazy and that craziness affects all of his works. His surreal style of storytelling is divinely combines with the best qualities of his current artist, whoever it is. Before this exact moment, the best fit for Grant's hallucinations was an outstanding Frank Quitely. We3, New X-Men, All Star Superman, the first volume of Batman and Robin - all of this is a perfect example of a perfect writer/penciler collaboration. But it was BEFORE this moment.   Frazer ...

i'll be rly quick 1

Finally we have an Avengers book that doesn't need any EVENT or a MASSIVE STORYLINE THAT WILL CHANGE YOUR LIFE AND WILL KILL PLENTY OF HEROES JUST FOR A SHOCKING EFFECT to be an Avengers book. This is the most superhero-ish book I have read in YEARS. And when I say superhero-ish, I mean superhero-ish. And I know that it would sound weird, even more creepier than when it's in my mind, but the Avengers relaunch is more heroic and brighter than, hm, the Brightest Day. And don't you dare saying 'oh ...

War of the Supermen #1 1

'War of the Supermen', part 1 is out this week. Written by James Robinson & Sterling Gates and the artwork by Jamal Igle issue 1 is pure action and awesomeness. Two years in the making and the last part of the history of New Krypton reads and looks absolutely fantastic. I am most impressed, you can even say touched (which is really weird for me), by those eight pages without words. Igle shows all the best for what he can as an artist. Still, I think the Olsen-Lane adventures seems a bit fade...

Yipee-Ti-Yi-Yo! 2

This story arc is unbelievable. Written by Roger Stern and penciled by Lee Weeks, part 2 of Something Can Stop the Juggernaut is incredibly good. Do not misunderstand me, it is difficult to find more superlatives, but this 'review' will be infested with them. Because so much fun, so much of a natural geek fun, I've not experienced since Green Lantern #26 with Alpha Lanterns onboard. The story continues with the appearance of Captain Universe and it seems that our ol' friend Juggie did something ...

No more Cable and Deadpool ongoing 0

The worst thing that can ever happen with a book about Deadpool - it won't make you laugh. Let's face it - Duane Swierczynski isn't a suitable writer for the merc with a mouth. He doesn't understand him (lol) & can't write a funny jokes for him. And he failed the end of a decent comic book. The following takes place in the midst of the Messiah Complex story arc, between the distruction of Cooperstown and the last page of X-Men #205. Turns out that before the BIGBANGBOOM events and Hope's sal...

But what? Who?! 1

Oookay, first thing first - go & read ASM #229-230. They are free now and Nothing Can Stop the Juggernaut is 100% gorgeous. My only issue with this comics and, well, not even issue, but OMFG-effect was that while I was reading it I REALLY THOUGHT THAT IT WAS ROMITA'S JR. ART. I am not very familiar with the works of Lee Weeks and it was a very, very big surprise for me that it wasn't John Romita actually. Especially it can be seen on the page with all the credits, where Spider-Man is shouti...

#522 - Ghostly, The End Of The World And Everything After 5

Matt Fraction has grown up. My only problem with him as a writer was that his Iron Man work is like MUCH better, thoughtful and detailed than The Uncanny X-Men. It appeared that he could not keep the same and write at an adequate level two different comic books. And it makes it more surprising as he continues to amaze me with his every UXM issue.   This story - the most shocking, what happened to the series since Ed Brubaker's work on it. A very pleasant surprise was the absence of Terry Dodson...

Bad Cap, Fake Cap 0

I have always (2 years, wtf) admired Brubaker's ability to write interesting Captain America stories without actually Captain America. In 2007 Steve was killed & it were cries all over the series & Bucky took the costume of stars-and-stripes & it was SO weird to see a new Cap & I thought that it was nearly lame & things turned out quite the opposite & now we have a great book with a great characthers and plot inside.  This issue continues the story of "Two Americas". I f...

Superman: Last Stand of New Krypton #1 2

Here we are - at the middle of war. James Robinson & Supergirl's Sterling Gates brought to us an extraordinary comic book this week. Following the events of Superman: The World of New Krypton #12, Brainiac attacked the entire city of Kandor.   The issue begins with General Zod's monologue about his only defeat and smoothly transfers to the city streets where a desperate battle gains momentum. There we can see Kal-El & his Red Shard in action, battling against Brainiac's robots. And then...

White Lantern Corps 3

Previous reviewers were very good (and relish) in discribing of all the benefits and advantages of the new issue of Blackest Night. I also want to apologize for criticizing the previous number. I doubted how all this stuff with rings would work. Now, after a dozens of tie-ins and one month without ACTION (only Green Lantern #50 is noteworthy) I have to say - yes, this event was in production since 2005 (s!ck it, Siege).   All strings, all the plot lines, all the events starting with GL: Rebirth ...

Dr. Big Tits 4

Look at the cover. Look longer. Look carefully. Is not that Megan Fox? That b!tch from BADABOOM Transformers & that b!tch who logged the beginning of the thirty-fifth season of Saturday Night Live on NBC? This time Arthur Suydam made me giggle. Thanks, bro And now let's get down to business. I am a little confused by the presence of Deadpool in every third Marvel-comic. He is not so interesting (though depends on the writer of course) to sell his mug on every corner. Action with the destruct...

@$%^& 3

I nearly choked from the flow of awesomeness, which is poured on me from the pages of this comic. Inhale-Exhale. Inhale-Exhale. Inhale-Exhale.  What I like the most about Dan Slott as a writer is his ability not to forget his past works. You know, many writers have the habit to write some kind of an interesting twist, and then forget about it (striking example - Bendis & Sentry-story) but this guy... Oooh, he's magician! Remember, in the first issues (#548, i guess) of BND it was a small co...

Silent triumph 9

This issue drove me crazy 'out the future of Ultimate U.   We have a brandnew character here, which is very cool despite the sharp decline in population. We have Arthur Adams here, who is now my personal artist-God. And at last we have the first really GOOD comic from Jeph Loeb, who gives something decent once in six/nine months.  So, let's get to the point. After the mind-f!cking Ultimatum, Magneto, Cyclops, Wolverine, Beast & thousands of others from the mutantkind died. Now we have only a...

Ares, my boy... 2

And once again I have to buy other issues of other series to see what's what. I don't blame Bendis, it's clear that Marvel should somehow warm up interest and earn money, but it's starting cross the line. Think for yourself - after reading Siege #2 it stayed only the murder scene in my head, which was pretty unnecessary. Brian wants to emulate Loeb's Ultimatum, in other words, just killing characters  for killing characters. I mean, is this sufficient for 3.99? Like the first issue - absolutely ...

Kick-Ass #606 2

Splendid  hard-fantasy story.   #606 is completely  Thor vs. Doom. Although, there are a few fluent threads (Loki-Asgardians-Kelda) but all we need is Thor kicking someone's ass, right? And from now and forever Kieron Gillen is my personal comic-God. His S.W.O.R.D, Ares and Phonogram are much more than impressive. In this regard, it is a pity that he was merely filling in Thor & Beast/dragon/green-haired sexy comic canceled after the fifth issue. I demand a public castration of Marvel's edit...

Necrophilia 5

Batman is dead. Batman is alive. Batman is dead. Batman is alive. Batm... Wait, WHAT? We all know that this crazy spring will bring to us a ressurection of Bruce Wayne. Now my question is, WHY is this issue should be even interesting? 'coz this is a BN story & the whole affair should be twisted around Dick Grayson, trying to resurrect his master (let's call him that, lol) in lost Lazarus pit. So I had a doubt, buy it or not? What's unusual could give me a story with notoriously known end? B...

Blindness 5

This hardcore, old-fashioned piece of nineties very difficult to objectively evaluate. I was born in 1993 and obviously was  deprived of the opportunity to get acquainted with the works of Chris Claremont. Now, when it started out a new ongoing series-continuation of the 90's X-Men, it's impossible to resist.  I am very pleased that Marvel began to devote old fart their own little series. So it was with Loeb (Red Hulk), so it is with CC. But if Jeph's comic entirely within the main universe, ...

Uncanny X-Men #520 18

Whoa... I've never been a huge Fraction's Uncanny X-Men fan. Thou, there were some horrible issues. But this... This turned my comic world upside down.   I am fully convinced that Terry Dodson's artwork is more suitable for Matt's storytelling. Just look at the cover. But, surprisely, this month Land jumped over his head (obviously affected a break in two issues). Sharp, thin lines, expressive faces (although, I'm not a fan of his "photographic" style) - all of it makes an unique charm, floaty a...

MOGO SMASH! 9

BOOM! This issue just like a retard bomb, blew my brain out & hit me with it's giant portion of awesomeness. #44 has to sell strongly marked "Crazy Adult Geeks Only" 'cause you have to be nearly insane to understand and love this messy story.  Guy Gardner has always been an unusual Green Lantern. From the first issues of vol. 2 (i jumped into Corps book just on number 5) he was outrageously rash. Of course, he had "the ability to instill the great fear" & blahblahblah but in a subconscio...

It's gonna be really fluent review - what i liked/disliked in this issue.   I'm very pleased with guest-appearances. Flash (Wally) & Batman (Dick) introduced a good variety in the narrative. I'm very pleased with J.T. Krul occupying all of the Titans titles. He is like a breath of fresh air in the fetid swamp. I'm very pleased with Cyborg and his messiah complex (reminds me of Cyclops a little bit). The idea of a new team is very promising, futhermore, the series is in an outstandingly tal...

#22 9

I have no adjectives to describe how great this comic is. Let's be honest and confine with one word - awesome. No, scratch that... Divine? A bit closer. Fractionalious? Yeeaaaaahh, a new praise-word for fractionalious comic! Write it and remember ^^  Norman sucked. Tony won. It's a short description  for the last twelve issues of The Invincible Iron-Man. Exaggerated, maybe, but it's the illogical truth & i really plunged into The World's Most Wanted arc (who didn't?). So, here we are - disas...

And they lived happily ever after 2

It's kinda funny - while Necrosha continues to rage in X-Force, NM has a brand new story.  Is it not reasonable to harmonize event-timing in all the series involved? 'cause it's only just started in Legacy & there are no mentions in Fraction's Uncanny. So, like I said, kinda funny...      In previous issues Doug Ramsey *SPOILER ALERT* was resurrected  via the Transmode Virus by Selene and Eli Bard, had almost killed Magma, fought with zombi-Hellions & (at last ) was revived by creepy Wa...

meh war 3

You have already seen the evaluation and prepared rotten tomatoes? Splendid. But first things first: i like all the Civil War-storyline covers. They are very expressive and would make excellent posters. Unfortunately, this is the rare case when the art mixes and corrupts the impression from the script. Mike McKone does the impossible - he rapes all work that did Straczynski and completely kills the interest to story. Ironically, writer screws up too. All that moral choice (Cap-Stark-Stark-Cap)...

Lex Luthor of Earth... 15

Frustrating, I like the idea of BN - the dead shall rise, screams, color alliance etc. and I really enjoy Geoff Johns writing style, but after five years in production, after divine Green Lantern: Rebirth and Sinestro Corps War, after fascinating promotion company, previews, interviews, Dan DiDio's promises and hot discussions in all comics-community we get THIS... It feels like you've been hit in your face by poker or something harder.   Is Luthor with Corps? Is Scarecrow with Sinestro? Barry...
