My Least Favorite Story Arcs

This is simply my least favorite story arcs in comics. No specific order. I will warn people right now though: there will be some that people will disagree with.

I have much more to add, but that will be done later.

NOTE: I have not read One More Day, Ultimatum, or Identity Crisis, thus none of those can be on the list.

  • This is what I said I knew people wouldn't agree with. Why is this so loved? I thought it was awful. I haven't read it in a while so I don't remember what I hated about it, but I remember just hating it and finding it a chore to read. That said though, I did enjoy the portrayal of Lex Luthor.

  • Sigh... Why didn't I listen? I heard this story was awful, but I still read it. I admit that I like the IDEA of the story, but it was just handled so wrong. The entire thing was done simply to ruin the character of Stephanie Brown. They showed her stupid enough to start a gang war without thinking of the consequences. They decided to torture her to death just because the people who ran the place didn't like her. And even ignoring everything they did to Steph, it was just poorly written. My opinion on this may not count since I only read maybe half of the books involved, but everything I read was just so bad. I can't explain my hatred of this story enough.

Also, legitimate question I have that hopefully someone can answer: I remember seeing some news reporter reporting to Gotham that there is a Batman, like it was some big reveal. So, Gotham didn't know Batman existed? This confused me, so can someone please explain?

  • This is why I find Snyder's run on Batman so overrated. I only read the main Batman series and none of the tie-ins, so I can only judge by what I've read. Anyway, I just hated this story. I liked some aspects of it, but I just hated what they did to the Joker. Why was his face cut off? Did they try to make him scarier? It didn't work, it was just pathetic and Joker seemed like a rip-off of various characters in horror films (only pathetic instead of scary). Get a writer who knows what he's doing and they don't have to use some stupid gimmick to try and make Joker scary. But Snyder isn't the writer who knows what he's doing (which is hard for me to say after how much I liked Night of the Owls). I'm pretty sure I remember at one point Batman saying he doesn't kill Joker because Joker would win, which is stupid. Later on Batman changes this (couldn't Snyder have just went back and edited the line out?) and says he doesn't kill Joker because Joker would come back worse than before, or something worse than Joker would come. WHAT!?! That's not true at all, Batman doesn't kill because he knows he wouldn't be able to stop. Snyder simply doesn't understand these characters. I also remember Batman saying he knows who Joker was before becoming the Joker (it's later revealed he was bluffing). And Joker for some reason cares. Joker doesn't care what his past was and wouldn't care if Batman knew. Why do this Snyder!?! Another thing I couldn't stand was the title. Why was it called "Death of the Family?" There was no death, literally or figuratively. I honestly can't think of any impact this had. I just did not enjoy this story at all.

  • Don't worry, it's not all DC on here. This was awful. Just... I've already complained enough about other stories. If you don't already know how awful this is, read about it yourself and see the horror.
