When I was a kid we had this awesome store called Media Play that carried pretty much everything. One of the things I fell in love with was the trade paperbacks they had. I had read a handful of comics as a kid but it wasn't until I started picking them up in about 2003 that I fell in love with them.
These are five books that made me realize how awesome comics can be.
This book is THE comic book that made me realize I loved comics.
Great characters and excellent storytelling.
I credit this book as being the first book I remember buying at Media Play.
I remember staring at it and wondering why someone wrote a comic book about farmers. Then one day I picked it up and looked at the back cover. It had a child's hand with three bone claws sticking out of it.
I bought it and read it that day.
This was the first Batman comic I think I've ever read. I haven't read one since that I liked this much.
Not as great as Ultimate Spider-Man but a fun ride. The contrast between these characters and the ones from the '90s animated series I grew up with were excellent.
I don't remember when I got this book, but I know I read it before I started picking up comics on a weekly basis.
A beautiful story and one I highly recommend.
