Like @FadeToBlackBolt was saying, comics can be really expensive. I added up just one issue of every comic that I try to keep up with and all together they cost me well over $200. I'm falling behind on a lot of my favorites because I just can't afford to spend that much. Most of the time, I end up reading about them second or third hand from other people, and I know a lot of people who are in the same boat. When I do have any money that I can spend on comics, its usually not much and is generally spent online because I live in like the middle of nowhere and the nearest shop is like three towns away. And I hate that, because nothing can beat the feeling of holding a hard copy-of a book, comic book, cd, or whatever. My kid sister's friends look at me funny when I say I'd rather buy a CD than download the songs from iTunes or something, and that's kind of sad to me. But sometimes you have to download them because it's cheaper or they're easier to access.
If you can afford to buy every comic that you want to read, more power to you, you must be doing pretty well or you don't read as many as me (I'm actively following-or trying to-26 titles). That does not, however, mean that every person who downloads them online is "sleazy and cheap". Some of them may just be in the same boat as me and a lot of my friends-unable to afford them and desperately trying to keep up with their favorites any way they can.
