I think a complete re-watching of The Clone Wars may be appropriate.

Ranking the Star Wars Movies

I'm going to preface this by saying that I love all the Star Wars movies. The prequels are not perfect but I still love them. That said, this my ranking for all 7 Star Wars films so far.

List items

  • Empire Strikes Back is my favorite movie of all time. Even as a child I was obsessed with this film. I am a sucker for a good villain and Darth Vader and the menacing looking stormtroopers captivated me. Now, as an adult, I appreciate this movie even more for the effect it has had on me and the film industry.

  • A New Hope, the movie that started the sensation. So much of Star Wars is a part of culture now and a lot of that comes directly from Episode IV. The hero's journey is in full effect here and the fun adventure that is A New Hope will always be a classic.

  • First things first, I like the Ewoks. Does it make a lot of sense that teddy bears with sticks and stones were able to take down fully armored stormtroopers? No, but this movie is action packed and a masterful conclusion to the original Star Wars trilogy all the same.

  • The Force Awakens had a daunting task of bringing Star Wars back to the big screen under new creative leadership and it did it incredibly. Every new character in this movie is great and this will launch the franchise into the future.

  • Revenge of the Sith came out when I was 13 years old and it blew me away that a Star Wars movie could be so dark. I was savvy enough to know where the story of the prequels was going but to actually see the Jedi gunned down, Anakin fall to the dark side, and the birth of the Empire was a definitive moment in film for my young life.

  • A lot of people despise Episode I but I honestly enjoy it. It was my first Star Wars film in theaters so it will always be special because of that and it also gave me Darth Maul. The look and presence of the character gave my 7 year old self the chills. He has become my favorite Star Wars character due to stories told since then but my fascination with him was born in that theater as a child.

  • This movie contains what I believe to be the most glaring flaw in all of Star Wars. The romance between Anakin and Padme was not handled well from a director's point of view or from an acting standpoint. Still, this movie manages to be a lot of fun to watch. I mean, who doesn't love seeing Obi-Wan and Jango Fett go toe-to-toe? This movie, despite it's pretty big flaw, will always be loved by me.
