Marvel Cinematic Universe

With the recently released Avengers, and upcoming sequel movies... I've decided to throw together a list of all the characters that have so far made appearances in this shared "Cinematic Universe" that Marvel's been putting together lately. In slight order of appearance.

  • Where it all began. Played by Robert Downey Jr.

  • The "Iron Monger". Played by Jeff Bridges.

  • Tony's trusted assistant. Played by Gwyneth Paltrow

  • SHIELD Agent who was originally assigned to investigate/supervise Tony Stark, then became involved with the discovery of Mjolnir and interrogation of Thor. Played by Clark Gregg.

  • Lieutenant Colonel James Rhodes, Tony Stark's friend and military liaison. Played first by Terrence Howard, then Don Cheadle.

  • Tony Stark's bodyguard and chauffer. Played by Jon Favreau

  • The company created by Tony's father, Howard Stark. Currently owned by Tony Stark.

  • The secret military law enforcement agency of the Marvel universe. Name stands for (in this universe) "Strategic Homeland Intervention, Enforcement, and Logistics Division".

  • Doctor and Engineer from a small town in Afghanistan, helps Tony build the Iron Man Armor. Played by Shaun Toub.

  • The head of SHIELD who approaches Stark about an "Avenger" Initiative. Played by Samuel L. Jackson.

  • Don't make Bruce Banner mad. Played by Edward Norton initially, but will be played by Mark Ruffalo in all subsequent appearances.

    Hulk voiced by Lou Ferrigno

  • The stubborn General who's trying to bring Hulk in. Played by William Hurt.

  • Russian-born British Royal Marine Emil Blonsky bites off more than he can chew when he tries to best the Hulk. Played by Tim Roth

  • Bruce Banner's colleague and love interest. Daughter to Gen. Ross. Played by Liv Tyler

  • Psychiatrist and other than that, Betty's then current boyfriend. Played by Ty Burrell

  • Samuel Sterns, aka: "Mr. Blue". Cellular Biologist and College Professor who seeks to help Bruce Banner rid himself of the Hulk. Something goes awry. Played by Tim Blake Nelson.

  • Ivan Vanko, son of former partner to Howard Stark, Anton Vanko. Bitter and angry over Tony Stark's success, begins to plot revenge. Played by Mickey Rourke.

  • Rival Weapons Manufacturer. Played by Sam Rockwell

  • Father to Tony Stark. Creator of the Arc Reactor technology and former head of Stark Industries. Unbeknownst to many, he also helped work on the Super Soldier Project as well as helped build SHIELD. Played in Iron Man 2 by John Slattery and in Captain America and Agent Carter by Dominic Cooper

  • Undercover agent/spy for SHIELD keeping tabs on Tony Stark for Nick Fury.

  • God of Thunder. Played by Chris Hemsworth

  • The All-father of Asgard. Played by Anthony Hopkins

  • Wife of Odin, and Queen of Asgard. Played by Rene Russo

  • Thor's brother, the God of Lies and Mischief. Played by Tom Hiddleston

  • Scientist and Thor's love interest. Played by Natalie Portman.

  • The all-seeing, all-hearing guardian of the Bifrost Bridge. Played by Idris Elba.

  • Volstagg, Fandral, and Hogun, Thor's most loyal friends. Played by Ray Stevenson, Joshua Dallas, and Tadanobu Asano.

  • Thor's friend and fellow warrior. Played by Jaimie Alexander

  • Father of Loki and King of the Frost Giants. Played by Colm Feore

  • One of the most powerful weapons in Asgard.

  • The source of the Frost Giants' power. Kept in a vault on Asgard to prevent it from getting into their hands once again.

  • Clint Barton. Agent of SHIELD. Played by Jeremy Renner.

  • SHIELD Agent brought in to help investigate the discovery of Mjolnir, as well as help Agent Coulson keep Emil Blonsky, the Abomination, in prison. Played by Maximiliano Hernandez.

  • Steve Rogers, frail young man turned Super-soldier during the days of World War 2. Played by Chris Evans.

  • Johann Schmidt, Hitler's head of advanced weaponry and a fellow "Super-Soldier". Seeks the "Tesseract". Played by Hugo Weaving

  • The Tesseract in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, and one of the objects from Odin's Treasure Room.

  • Freedom Fighter and love interest for Captain America. Played by Hayley Atwell

  • General who recruits Steve Rogers for the Project. Played by Tommy Lee Jones.

  • Soldier, Friend and "sidekick" to Captain America. Returns years later as the Winter Soldier. Played by Sebastian Stan

  • German Defector and Inventor of the Supersoldier Serum. Played by Stanley Tucci

  • Special US Squadron operating during World War 2. Members include Dum Dum Dugan (played by Neal McDonough), Jim Morita (Kenneth Choi), Gabe Jones (Derek Luke), Jacques Dernier (Bruno Ricci) and Montgomery Falsworth (J. J. Feild).

  • The "Advanced Science Division" of the Nazi Party. Eventually went rogue along with it's leader, the Red Skull.

  • The Red Skull's top assassin, tasked with killing Abraham Erskine and steal the completed copy of the Super Soldier Serum. Takes a cyanide pill to avoid capture (and possibly avoid facing the Skull's wrath for having been caught). Played by Richard Armitage

  • Nazi Biochemist. Later plays a more prominent role (behind the scenes) in the comings and goings of SHIELD. Played by Toby Jones.

  • A proposed team of superheroes brought together under the careful hands of Nick Fury.

  • SHIELD Agent and associate of Nick Fury. Played by Cobie Smulders

  • Petroleum Corporation. Has various Gas Stations across America. Logo shown in various movies.

  • Alien race who serve as Loki's invasion force under the permission of the Other who answers to his master... Thanos.

  • His origins/role/purpose in things still yet unknown, but what is known is that he was the master of the Chitauri, who gave them to Loki so that he may conquer Earth for him and retrieve the Tesseract.

  • Leader of the '10 Rings' terrorist organization. His true identity has become quite enigmatic due to the events of Iron Man 3 and the one-shot 'All Hail the King'.

  • Creator of the Extremis concept, and one-night stand of Tony Stark in 1999. Eventually joins with Aldrich Killian in further developing Extremis.

  • Head of Advanced Idea Mechanics. Tried to approach Tony Stark on a New Year's Eve party in 1999/2000 to help with building AIM... an offer Stark not only refused but also humiliated the man. Helped Maya Hansen develop Extremis. Has manipulated various intelligence agencies, even goes as far as claiming to have created the Mandarin and his organization to better influence world events to his benefit. Experimented on himself with Extremis.

  • Eric Savin. Extremis Powered Henchman of Alrich Killian, and his personal muscle through most of the movie (Iron Man 3). Cunning, arrogant and at times... heh... Coldblooded.

  • One of the many disabled/scarred veterans who volunteered for the Extremis process. Accompanied Savin to rural Tennessee to tie up loose ends and taking out Tony Stark. Didn't end too well for her.

  • Re-imagined as a US government sanctioned, privately funded think-tank created by Aldrich Killian. But has darker designs outside it's stated goals.

  • A mysterious figure who's appeared in various forms and in various roles.
