A Magnificent Duo:
Shalom:
Alva’s husband and a devout Brahmanist, he has achieved spiritual enlightenment, and merely remains in the physical plane to be with his wife, Alva. As a result of his mundane desires keeping him attached to the physical world, he considers himself a failure regarding his role as a Brahmin. His centuries if not Milleniums with alva have resulted in him picking up on some of her magics, but his magical abilities pale in comparison to hers.
Abilities:
I. Spiritual Enlightenment: Although his body is human, Shalom’s soul is indiscernible from the essence of an ethereal God. He chooses to remain in the cycle of reincarnation but has long since escaped.
a. Indestructible Soul: his spiritual divinity has rendered his soul liberated from the influences of spirits, magicians, gods, and any other force that may seek to damage or destroy it.
b. Unending Peace: Shalom’s soul cannot be rendered impure and his emotions cannot be swayed. He is in an unending state of peace. Despite this, he will still act when action is needed but his actions are always logical and never emotional.
c. Vision of Truth: His enlightened soul can allow him to see things beyond the physical plane. He can see spirits and ethereal beings. He can also see the flow of magic, psionic energy, cosmic energy, and even divine influence throughout the world and react accordingly to counter or dodge attacks that most would perceive as instantaneous or unavoidable.
d. Calming Aura: Shalom’s presence can calm nearby souls, and he can end fights peacefully unless that attacker’s soul can’t be affected by spiritual forces or they are attacking for a non-emotional reason.
e. Spirit Touch: Shalom can not only interact with intangible objects, but he can interact with the souls of people within their bodies. This provides him with a few other abilities such as the ability to destroy, remove and consume souls. All of these abilities require physical touch, but permeate armor.
II. Reincarnation: Shalom’s greatest ability. If he dies, he can force a pregnancy upon any female being in the universe and be reborn in a new body. He will retain his knowledge and abilities, and possibly gain new abilities from his new body.
III. Elemental Magic: Shalom is slow to learning magic, but in his many lifetimes he has become quite adept with magic that connects his consciousness to the abiotic, elemental world around him. He perceives these abilities as inferior to his spiritual powers, but acknowledges that they serve him well while in the physical world.
a. Aristotelian Elementalism: A 4 element style of magic involving a mental connection with the physical world that allows a magic user to control and dominate the natural world around themself. Aristotelian Elementalism focuses on utilizing the power, form and stability of the elements around a user to create effective magical phenomenon. This style of elementalism is the far more physical, direct style of elemental magic known by Shalom. Can be used in conjunction with Wu Xing Elementalism.
-Fire Affinity:
-Water Aff
-Earth Affinity: rth
-Wind Affinity: Dominance over win
-Elemental Forging: as opposed to the cyclic teachings of Wu Xing, Aristotelian Elementalism focuses on stability and control. Users of Aristotelian Elementalism can not only move and alter the physical properties of their controlled elements, but alter the shape of their elements and add functionality. Aristotelian arts teach users how to craft weapons of fire, armor of earth, platforms of wind and bindings of water, for example. Users of this style can even construct autonomous minions bearing the properties of their desired elements to serve them during battle. Lastly, Aristotelian practitioners can fuse elements with mastery over multiple affinities to produce substances such as lava, steam, mud and the like for use in battle.
b. Wu Xing Affinity: A 5 element style of elemental magic that functions to allow an elementalist to find union with the world around his or herself and to alter the very nature of the elements that he or she seeks to manipulate. Wu Xing focuses on exploting an opponent's weakness in battle and maximizing resourcefulness. This style, although powerful, is more of a supplementary, spiritual style of elementalism when compared to Aristotelian style, but can be used in conjunction with it.
-Ying-Yang Conversion: Shalom can use his mastery of Wu Xing to convert any elements, either those of Aristotelian or Wu Xing nature, into any other elements, allowing him to use any of his elements at will, excluding wood. He cannot produce matter or energy though, only convert what is there. These elements include fire, water, wind, earth, electricity, and steel.
-Ambient Unity: Shalom can sense the movement of he natural and abiotic elements around him through his connection to them using Wu Xing. In a sense, even though he cannot detect living beings through this ability, he can feel the rushing of water, the movement of earth, the flowing of the wind and the fire's dancing just by being close by.
Alva:
Husband of Shalom, Alva taught him the ways of Elementalism, but is adept in far more types of magic that she uses in combat and daily life. Together with Shalom they live in the mountains. As Shalom works to keep her calm, sane, and out of hell, Alva keeps Shalom grounded in the world around him and provides him with all of the love and knowledge that he could ever want. After having died multiple times Alva turned away from technology and modern society in favor of knowledge and magic, the two forces in the universe that she can rely on regardless of her current lifetime.
Alva's Schools of Magic:
Elementalism/Alchemy: The process of creating phenomena by breaking the world down into basic parts (the above elements for Elementalism and atomic elements for alchemy), and then reassembling as needed to make desired phenomena. Their elementalism doesn't involve creating or destroying anything, just converting what is there into what is needed by taking the desired aspects out of it, be that fire, water, air, earth (non-metallic substances), energy (electricity), or metal.
Vodou (Voodoo): Magic that relies on the principle that "like effects like". Practitioners of Vodou gain control over things by stealing something from them to gain semblance/similarity, then use that similarity to perform phenomena. As in the case of voodoo dolls, one's "appearance" is stolen and used to gain control. One can also steel possessions to gain control. Voodoo is all about forming connections through similarities and contact and inducing phenomena though that.
Mysticism: Mainstream magic. You use magical energy from within (mana), and expend it to induce phenomena. Spells cast using this type of magic are very fast and follow vector trajectories, but are capable of a wide array of effects. This type of magic is often used to stimulate some of the others in scenarios when a change in environment is required.
Chi: Like mysticism, but a more physical form of magic that effects oneself. Through mastery of chi, users can enhance their physical and mental abilities, performing "superhuman" abilities not based on outside phenomena, but self enhancement. This is the source of Alva's superhuman stats. Enhanced strength, speed, durability, senses, and intelligence are all derived from her study of Chi.
Hexes: Lasting magic. By either altering the flow of magic in another being or attaching a curse to them, these spells continue on forever and cause what you might consider "D.O.T" or "Status Effects" to an opponent. Basically just curses, sometimes requiring physical touch. Often times require a bit of Mysticism to start, but last long after the use of one's own mana has stopped. Can cause a wide variety of effects with low effort, but high time requirements. Can be removed by skilled practitioners of Hex.
Incantations: Require communication of some kind, be it trough voice, writing, or just sending a signal with magic. This is the summoning of creatures from elsewhere to do your bidding. Spells must be cast in languages that the desired entities can understand, but no magic cost is necessary, only correct speech, pronunciation and/or handwriting. Not all summoned beasts can be properly controlled.
Disclaimer: While I understand that Vodou is not a type of magic, but rather a religion, I am utilizing the media-constructed form of Vodou magic and in no means do the statements or descriptions of that type of magic describe actual practices of Vodou (Voodoo).
