Review: Black Canary and Zatanna: Bloodspell 0

The GoodThere are so many things done right in the OGN, one of the first things you will notice, is the phenomenal art that Joe Quinones contributes to this book. Quinones has a style that adds attitude to every facial expression, and to the movement. One of the best things that Quinones manages to achieve, is making Black Canary and Zatanna look different. Black Canary has a rounder nose, while Zatanna has a straight nose. It is something that you would expect, but it's rare that you find an ar...

Review: Dial H #15 0

The GoodAlberto Ponticelli's art is a perfect match for this series and this issue showcases that better then any other. This over-sized final issue has tons of new and crazy things and Ponticelli pulls it off perfectly. His style is very sketchy and because of this, the art is simple, but doesn't feel that way. Every new dial the characters look awesome but also humorous without taking away from the seriousness of the story. This issue features war and destruction and it looks absolutely devas...

Review: Earth 2 #15 0

The GoodThe best part of the issue would have to be Nicola Scott's beautiful artwork. Everything she draws, even small panels, feel epic and has so much going on. In this issue she draws tons of action and every punch looks like it hurts. The expressions on the characters are perfect and show tons of emotion. Nicola Scott also has a great sense of where to pose the characters for the best results. James Robinson focuses more on the action in this issue so the story doesn't progress too much unt...

Review: The Movement #4 0

The GoodFreddie Williams II does a fantastic job at bringing this gritty story to the page. Williams has a very sketchy style that makes everything seem very gritty and really makes the characters and backgrounds look like they've seen better days. Williams also have a very distinct style so when you look at the page, you know who the artist is and that gives the book something extra. The expressions are also very quirky and it adds a slight scene of humor to the art. The flashbacks are also ve...

Review: Green Arrow #23 1

The GoodAndrea Sorrentino continues to knock issue after issue out of the park with his creative paneling and character expressions. Sorrentino makes the best use of panels that really showcases movement and it creates a lot of excitement as you look at the pages. He also manages to give character expressions that really make the reader sympathize with them. Sorrentino also has six pages in this issue that are extremely creative and interesting. Marcelo Maiolo's colors should be noted as they f...

The Superman We've Been Waiting For 0

The GoodJim Lee's art is fantastic as always. The details he adds in every panel allows the reader to look at everything again. There is also a foldout page and the detail is astonishing. Lee also makes everything, even sitting in a chair, look absolutely epic and you'll never get bored looking at the pages. Dustin Nguyen adds his skills in the backup of this book and it contrasts Lee's epic scope. This isn't a bad thing. Instead, he uses shadows to create two pages of suspense. The art alone ma...

Wonder Woman #19 0

The GoodGoran Sudzuka is really what makes the art in this issue fantastic. He really comes close to Cliff Chaing in the art and it looks fantastic. The facial expressions are extremely strong and convey tons of emotions even though they are cartoony. Tony Akins also really shines in this issue during the First Born segments. His style matches the shadiness of the deals that are being made. Brain Azzarello manages to make a issue without much action interesting and suspenseful. We get to see wh...

Red Hood and the Outlaws 0

The GoodJulius Gopez does a great job on the art in this issue. The sketchiness of his art really makes the book feel much darker, and that really helps. The expressions are powerfully, especially in Roy's dream sequence. The action also looks very fluid and every move looks like it contributes something to the overall action scene. He also draws the Acres of All really well. James Tynion IV joins the book and this is a great thing. He makes the characters much more interesting in one issue the...

Superboy #19 0

The GoodThere are two artist on this issue, but it's hardly noticeable. Diogenes Neves joins artist R.B. Silva, and the result is a great looking book. Each panel is very simple, but with details in the place that matter. The panels are also made in a way that really fits the sci-fi tone of the story. Silva still adds the quirky expressions to the characters, but it's perfectly used in this issue to show innocence and other emotions that are absolutely needed for this issue. Scott Lobdell is fi...

Batman #19 0

The GoodGreg Capullo continues to do amazing work on this series. He draws Gotham the way it should be drawn along with Batman and his supporting characters. The expressions on the characters are telling and really get you at the right moments. He also manages to draw action and make it look big and fierce. He draws a lot of Bat-vehicles in this issue and they all look great and practical. Scott Snyder uses this gap between 'Death of the Family' and the upcoming 'Year Zero' to use a Batman vill...

Batgirl #19 0

The GoodDaniel Sampere's art is good. His style is very clear and it makes each panel very simple. The expressions are fairly strong and convey emotion like they should. Sampere also adds a lot of details into the background that really makes the world come alive. The use of shadow in some panels is well done and really shows how dark Gotham is, compared to the brightness of the apartment Babs shares with Alysia. This issue marks the return of Gail Simone, who was fired and unfired. She had to c...

Swamp Thing #19 0

The GoodKano is the new artist on this series and judging from this issue, the art will continue to be fantastic. Kano's style is very simple but with enough details the every panel looks very complex. The Metropolis Botanical Garden looks fantastic. The exterior makes it look like an Oasis inside a huge city. It's very well done and it grabs your attention. I also really enjoy the emotion that Swamp Thing shows in this issue. He looks so depressed so when you see him smiling, trying to be opti...

Green Lantern #19 0

The GoodThere are two artist on this issue with very different styles, but the way the story is set up, they are allowed to work together in the best possible way. Ardian Syaf does a great job at showing the action that is needed in this issue. This includes drawing Sinestro fighting the First Lantern and a two page spread that features something that will affect characters for a long time. Then we have Szymon Kudranski who's style fits right in at the Dead Zone. The darkness and the brightness...

Green Arrow #19 0

The GoodAndrea Sorrentino is absolutely fantastic in this book. The sketchiness of the lines and the use of shadow is phenomenal. He also uses very simple panels, but in a way that makes the who page seem very complex and interesting. There is so much details in the background, but the use of color helps you focus on what you need to see. Never, has color been uses this well to grab your attention and force you to look at something. It's absolutely stunning. In this issue, Jeff Lemire beat the ...

Earth 2 #11 0

The GoodNicola Scott's art work has always been a strong point of this series and this issue is no exception. She is truly, one of the best in the business. The expressions on the characters, especially Jay's mother, added so much emotion to the issue. The action for The Flash is very well done that you can almost see him running on the page. The action is also fluid and exciting. Her being the artist is reason enough to pick up this book. James Robinson adds just as much as Scott does to the b...

Dial H #11 0

The GoodAlberto Ponticelli's art has grown on me since he has taken over the series. The sketchiness he adds to the book is slightly different from what we got from the original artist, but he still manages to make everything look good. This is a book where the artist has to draw crazy things and Ponticelli does that perfectly. The expressions are solid and help convey the emotion need for this issue. Writer China Mieville continues on the story of Nelson and Roxie looking for the origin of the...

Animal Man #19 0

The GoodSteve Pugh does a fantastic job on art duties this issue. Inside requires a lot of emotions and the facial expressions we got from characters like Buddy, Maxine, and Ellen, really helped convey the sadness that the reader is suppose to feel. Pugh also has to draw a bit of action towards the end and it looks just as good as it has in more action orientated issues from the past. Jeff Lemire takes this issue to finish off story bits from 'Rot World', but he also uses it to set up the future...

Superman #18 0

The GoodThe art in this issue is a little inconsistent, due to there being three different artists on pencils, but, they manage to add something to the sections that they have. Aaron Kunder does the chapters with Orion; and he makes the art look sketchy and big. It fits very well for a character like Orion. Tyler Kirkham and Robson Rocha provide their skills for the chapters with Superman and Clark Kent. Kirkham does a great job and almost matches the style of regular artist, Kenneth Rocafort, w...

Green Arrow #18 0

The Good: Andrea Sorrentino blows it away again in this issue. The use of color so far in this series really brings out the impact and emotion of everything that happens in this issue. The sketchiness and the minimalism colors contribute to make the book dark in theme but also very complex and interesting to look at. There is tons of details in every panel that you could spend an hour looking through this and find yourself finding new things. Jeff Lemire also continues to write one of the best v...

Superboy #17 0

The Good: R.B. Silva's art looks better in this issue then any other issue. He still adds the quirky expressions but now there are lines that add to the facial expressions and convey emotions very strongly. The characters, including the Justice League look great and the technology that we see in this issue look other worldly. The best part of this issue in the action. It looks so big and epic but you can still see the faces of the characters as they are getting hit and it makes you feel for them...

Batgirl #17 0

The Good: Daniel Sampere pencils this issue and he does a great job. The action is very well done and really shows you what Babs is doing. The expressions in this issue also help provide a little feeling for every character in this issue. Their is tons of smoke and fire in this issue and Sampere does a great job at making the smoke look sketchy; but the colorist also keeps up the art in this issue. The story feels much different from normal writer Gail Simone. Ray Fawkes decides not to make Barb...

Batman #17 0

The Good: Greg Capullo is the perfect artist for Batman and he makes every issue the best that it cane be with his amazing style. He adds so much details to the Joker's face that is makes him so much more terrifying. The backgrounds are filled with lines that do nothing but improve the image. The expressions, especially the eyes convey so much emotion that he really makes these characters talk without the speech bubbles. It feels like there is a lot of symbolism in the art; such as a heart, the ...

Katana #1 0

The Good: Alex Sanchez is a new artist to me and his style is definitely different from other artist in the business. It feels like it should fit the book because it has a feeling of Japaneses art to it that should make it a perfect match for the character, and the stories that they will be telling. The expressions are the best thing about the art because they really convey emotion that makes you feel for the character. The story is a bit all over the place. We get to see Katana come to a new pl...

Dial H #9 0

The Good: Alberto Ponticelli pencils have been changing the tone of this series and the sketchiness and the darkness it provides to the issue is fantastic. The story is using humor more then it did in the first arc and having the visual being so series really balances the series. Ponticelli can draw weird very well, and that is a skill that comes in handy when you have to draw a new character that is incredibly strange every few pages. The story dropped a little in quality, but still maintains t...

Green Arrow #17 0

The Good: Most people will go into this issue because of Jeff Lemire, but Andrea Sorrentino does an amazing job. His artwork is very similar to that of Tim Sale and it just makes everything about this issue better. The simplistic nature of every panel does a great job at conveying the plot, but also gives it a very dark tone that will please a lot of fans. The coloring also makes this issue so much better. The majority of the colors are dark and mild, but when the red and white enter the panel, ...

Earth 2 #8 0

THE GOOD: Yildiray Cinar's art is fantastic. It's not quite what Nicola Scott did with the book, but it's good in it's own way. There is a lot of action in this book, and it all looks very well done. The expressions reveal the hidden intentions and really makes the characters feel real. The character designs also looks stunning on the characters and makes it go with this different universe. James Robinson does a great job at introducing Steppenwolf a little more clearly. We also get to see other...

Dial H #8 0

THE GOOD: Alberto Ponticelli does an amazing job penciling this issue. The sketchiness that he adds to the pages drastically changes the tone into grittiness and it seems to work by the end of the issue. The details that he adds to the panels gives you something to look at. The action also looks very fluid and vibrant. The story picks up from last issue and takes the series back to what made it so enjoyable. We see the dial-wielding duo arrive in Canada to search for another dial. This leads int...

Teen Titans #15 0

THE GOOD: Brett Booth is back and brings the book back to the standards we started with. His art looks very modern and that is something need for a young team book. There are details everywhere that creates a much larger world and really makes the atmosphere real. The best part is his style. It is very edgy and makes everything seem much more hip. The story is actually very deep and really makes the team seem a little more interesting. Red Robin has been kidnapped and this leads the Teen Titans ...

Justice League Dark #15 0

THE GOOD: Mikel Janin is back as the artist and the book looks fantastic. The way he draws the new character Vikar makes the character look awesome and hypes up the story for future pages. One of the main reasons why Janin is great on the art is because the emotion that all the characters show. It makes this larger then life characters feel a little human. The backgrounds are detailed but not overly so that it takes away from the characters. The story is also fantastic and really gives the reade...

Superman #15 0

THE GOOD: Kenneth Rocafort isn't a name you would think of drawing a Superman comic, but he blows it out of the park. His style is different from what Superman comics are normally and it creates a new tone that really gives this book something it needs. The paneling also makes the whole thing feel huge in scope and complicated, but in a good way. The story lets down a bit from the fantastic issues in the past, but it's still fun to read. We get to see Superman and Lex Luthor meet and it's an int...

Justice League #15 0

THE GOOD: Ivan Reis takes over on art duties for the foreseeable future and the book is looking just as fresh as it did in issue #1. Reis adds loads of details in the backgrounds that helps create an atmosphere for the League. He also manages to draw all the action with such fluid that is flows together well between panels. There is a double-page splash that he goes all out for and it looks fantastic. The story is taking the Justice League is a different direction and so far- it looks promising....

Red Hood and the Outlaws #15 0

THE GOOD: Timothy Green II provides the art in this issue are there are something that I enjoy. The action is very well done and really makes the hits and blows look painful. Some of the expressions are well done as well. The story is a mixed bag. Jason was really cool in this issue because a big part of his history is being killed by the Joker and Scott Lobdell mentions this and it feels very tragic. This issue also kinda puts Jason more on the side of good instead of bad where he should be mor...

Green Lantern #15 0

THE GOOD: Doug Mahnke is perfect for this book. He adds a lot of details to all the panels, but everything looks so simple. Mahnke draws The Third Army so well with tons of details and makes them look horrifying. The expressions also make use of the very few lines that he adds to them and it ends up in a satisfying appearance. Geoff Johns brings out everything in this story. We start with a lantern that is traveling to his home world. This is a great addition to the story because we can see how ...

Nightwing #15 0

THE GOOD: Eddy Barrows is back on the art and this books is much better for just having him. He draws Gotham City so well that you really get the feeling for the city when you first see it. The expressions are also very well done; the pain and agony is effective and makes you feel for the characters. Barrows has a sketchy style and it makes everything so much darker in the tone. He also draws very fluid action and makes Nightwing feel like he is moving when he draws him. The story is fantastic a...

THE GOOD: The art in this issue is fantastic are really picks up from the previous issues. Francis Portela does an amazing job at drawing the backgrounds and really makes the book look like it is in the 31st century. The characters also look well done with emotions running high and action on every page. He also draws dinosaurs very well. The story is very simple and starts and finishes in this issue. It adds a lot of a certain character as well. We get to see Glorith having a dream and it leads ...

Batwoman #15 0

THE GOOD: J.H. Williams III does two pages of art in this book and they look great. Trevor McCarthy does the rest and he actually contributes a tone to this one-off issue. The thick black lines make an easily seen image but really makes the panels so much darker. The coloring is also done very well and really makes the series really dark and gritty. These things combined make the issue much more interesting to read. The story is actually really good. We don't get a whole bunch of Batwoman and Wo...

THE GOOD: Juan Jose Ryp is filling in for the normally fantastic art and it still manages to look fairly good. There are tons of details in the background and the expressions are very well done. Action also looks very cool and fluid throughout the whole issue. Ryp does an amazing spread and it looks very cool having all the characters together, but also all that details. The story really is sidelined for some action scenes and the result is somewhat satisfying. We get to see all the character wo...

Wonder Woman #15 1

THE GOOD: Cliff Chiang is absolutely astonishing on this book. There isn't another artist out there that has his style and it gives this book something special. First of all, everything is so simple but it looks amazing when put all together. The expressions are very well done and really convey emotion quite well. The action that does happen in this issue is fluid and looks fantastic. Matthew Wilson should also get a lot of credit for this issue as well because the colors in this issue are perfe...

Suicide Squad #15 1

THE GOOD: Fernando Dagino was a great choice to draw this series. He adds a lot of details in the panels and it really makes you feel like the world is bigger that it is. He also draws the Joker very freighting. The action involving Joker and Harley. The emotions are decent about giving away what the characters are feeling and what they are thinking. The story continues on the abusive relationship between Mr. J and Harley. It's very interesting because the Joker acts much more different around H...

THE GOOD: Andres Guinaldo is a huge part as to why this issue was so good. His style is a surprising fit for this series and he does the characters justice. He adds so much details to all the back grounds that you never run out of something to look for. The characters, have never looked this good and it's great that they are getting an amazing looking goodbye. If you look threw this book you will see how amazing it is. There is really not enough to say how much he work really improved this issue...
