My all time Favorite Golden Age Heroes!!

This is a list of characters that have either faded into obscurity, slipped into the passages of time, or have been replaced with a newer version or gone on to inspire new heroes with the same name. These are characters I have great respect for and, while for of them many I haven't had the privilege of reading about first hand, I still hold them in high regard for being the first wave of superheroes.

List items

  • "Faster than a speeding bullet! More powerful than a locomotive! Able to leap tall buildings in a single bound!"

These were the words used to describe the FIRST Superman. Everything that is Superman, from Krypton to Metropolis, it all started with Kal-L. In fact without him we wouldn't even have superheroes at all

  • “And I shall shed my light over dark evil, for the dark things cannot stand the light. The light of … THE GREEN LANTERN!”

This was the first Green Lantern oath ever made. It was through this magically powered Green Lantern that the more scientific Green Lantern Corps was created during the Silver Age. Powered by the magic of the Starheart Lantern, Alan Scott was a force to be reckoned with.

  • The Sentinel of Liberty himself

  • The original "Fastest Man Alive"

  • The original Human Torch

  • The first aquatic hero, predating Aquaman by a few months and the first hero to fly.

  • He has been described as a Superman-Batman-Punisher hybrid

  • The original Hawkman was Carter Hall, he was a reincarnation of an Ancient Egyptian prince named Khufu. He discovered that the "ninth metal" could negate the effects of gravity, allowing him to fly. Carter decided to fight crime with his new found ability, so he created a costume which had large wings to help himself control his flight powers in the air. Since Hall was an archaeologist and historian in his everyday life, he took medieval weapons from the museum he worked at to help his fight for justice.

  • The first Hourman

  • Boxing great turned superhero

  • Once a physician until he lost his eyesight to an experiment gone wrong. Charles McNider was the first Doctor Mid-Nite and a founder of the JSA. Due to his blindness, Doctor Mid-Nite uses goggles that give him the ability of infra-red vision, allowing him to see in the dark.

  • The first superhero team in history

  • The first Union Jack

  • A possible inspiration for Ghost Rider

  • One of the select few Super Soldiers from WWII

  • The one man in the right place

  • The Spirit of the Gun
