Interesting start 1

Summary and scans can be viewed hereThe Good The art was pretty good, all the characters were very expressive in body and facial features. We got into Jason’s head and the many problems that litter his life. His father’s history is also touched upon and the questions of where is his mom are brought up. Also of note was the use of art to illustrate the abusive relationship between father and son. Never stated here but the way the characters interacted it was pretty clear Jason was terrifi...

The mystery continues 0

Summary and scans hereThe Good The art is very expressive. Maybe even too much so but at least the many emotions the lead character goes through are visible and believable, even if some are over the top. This issue made for a better read than the last because there is a sense of urgency that gives the story more depth especially since last issue was spent establishing who Jason was and what he was about. Seeing him lash out with his powers was also quite cool despite the people who lost ...

fiery finish! 0

Summary and scans hereThe Good This issue we got allot of our initial questions answered. We learn how his father got injured and the resulting abuse which lead to his mother’s abandonment of them and how he then became his fathers primary outlet to vent his frustrations at life. We also get a glimpse of the angry frightened little boy who Jason really is even now as a man thanks to the trauma he has had to live through. Jason’s dad this issue becomes more of a scumbag and frankly my con...

Still has potential 0

For scans and summary click hereThe Good Love the artwork in this series by regular Chriscross. Jason meets with John Stewart and Martian manhunter effectively making him known to the larger superhuman community. His personal struggle with work, oncoming college, his abusive father and his lack of confidence are the driving force behind this series. Jason is just a very pitiful and unassuming character that you can’t help but root for him. I’m enjoying the set up of things and his lack o...

Nice twist on a classic rivalry 0

The Good Art and colors- This book has some damn sexy visuals. Every page oozes quality from the line work to the very dynamic and slick colors. I think I’ve died and gone to pretty comic heaven with this one!   The action- I’m a huge fan of the ultimate versions of Captain America and Hawkeye for a number of reasons for 1 the modern take on the character is just fresh! Hawkeye is basically bullseye and Cap would blow your head off if you looked at him cross-eyed. These two are the liter...

BOLD! 0

See scans and summary here     The Good Bold and Ballsy are the two words that best describe this first issue. Instead of superheroes we get a gang of super-powered freaks. As far as introduction issues go, this one was a good read. The team gets their introductions and all their powers get highlighted. Right out the gate we also get some interesting team dynamics. Brick and Wise son have issues; Holocaust and Tech-9 have different ideas about what there gang should be doing. Tech-9 cl...

Mcduffie's best! 0

See scans and summary here   The Good The dialogue and story have started sinking there hooks in, McDuffie has crafted two very well characterized and executed people in, Icon and Rocket. One is aloof, law abiding and pretty much “uptown” while the other is a dirty poor touch as nails chick with quite a mouth on her. It was also great seeing a brief recap of the hostage situation and what lead to the police and our duo clashing. The motivation of the would be captor is also a great read as...

Great read! 0

Scans and summary can be viewed hereThe Good Coleen and Misty have great character chemistry, very believable and very fluid. The story quickly established who they were, kick ass samurai and bionic ex cop martial artist and what they were about “certified bail bondsmen” of the super villain variety. Humor was peppered into many of the interactions from start to finish making every page entertaining. The art by Khari Evans hits all the right notes. The women are sexy, the villains are g...

Full circle 0

See the scans and summary hereThe Good The cover was a big improvement over the last, illustrating a battle between Morlun and Shuri. The art and color courtesy of Ken Lashley and Paul Mounts respectively are still top notch and give the book a distinctive feel. The defeat of Morlun was a bit predictable but still satisfactory given the magnitude of the threat and the need to save both the king and queen’s life. Shuri and the love of S&T were the main highlights along with the knowledge...

Behold the Black Panther 0

Scans and summary can be seen hereThe Good The recap page does a very good job of bringing those who missed the first few issues up to speed. Morlun as a villain was down right terrifying. The build up for him attacking Wakanda and its execution was great writing. In just a few short issues and with no back story whatsoever I was just freaked out by his slow plod towards the injured King. The same feeling you get watching Friday the 13 when you realize nothing can stop Jason.  This was han...

Buffy who? 0

The Good Monet returns to Gen-X after defending the weak and innocent girls of her boarding school. She uses her strength, reflexes and telepathy to easily take down all the vamps in record time, Buffy would be proud   The Bad Terrible very obviously rushed art work. The pages are simply cringe worthy. To make matters even worse the pages seems to change artists every few pages…none better than the other…just ghastly!   The Ugly 2.5/5 average   Scans and summary here...

Your art is like a rollercoaster 0

Background, summary and scans can be found hereThe Good Classic Monet gotta love her! This issue had Monet tackling an enemy she doesn’t have experience fighting or much knowledge of, which considering her power set is always a welcome change. It also finds her isolated and alone, something despite what she claims she’s not a fan off  this is supported  when her first reaction to being attacked is to call her friends   This issue also leads up to her rejoining the Gen-X team after months...

To die for 0

Summary and scans hereThe Good Cover- I love the Image! A wickedly vampiric Storm in mid evil laugh, ominously looming over her X-men teammates. Still a classic image and great cover! This issue had a great B-Movie script tied together with superheroics that was very entertaining to read. It was refreshing to see old school conventional vampire at play afraid of religious artifacts, transforming into bats, commanding vermin and the seduction that ensues between the mate and the sire. It ...

Something to sink my teeth into 1

Scans and summary can be viewed here The Good Mike Miller hits all the right notes with the art and Ben Raab weaves a nice little origin tale that is suitable enough to the core of what and who Storm is before succumbing to her vampirism yet maintains the edge that is maintained by the Bloodstorm persona throughout the mutant X series. As alternate worlds go the Mutant-X earth is one of my favorite and after the initial year of reading the series this issue was perfect timing since Blood...

Craption much? 0

Summary and scans can be viewed hereThe Good Cover was ok with storms image over mother Africa. New black superpowerd girl, another Nigerian character added to the ranks. She was genuinely portrayed as scared and was convincing in that capacity.   The Bad Generic uninspired art. Every female looks the same, backgrounds are bland and Storm was just badly written. Storm flies in to save the girl leaving the soldiers outside armed to later fire at them? Is stupid soup being sipped over at Uto...

Solid 0

For summary and scans click hereThe Good Stunning cover- showcasing a clash between Azrael and Talia Al Ghul. The cover uses reds, blacks and whites to great effect and sets the tone for this issue.   Interior art- The painted style of Frazer Irving suits the somber tone of the book very well. There is even the slightest hint of ‘noir’ which is very welcome. The art itself is light on details but the colors balance things out along with bold outlines for the characters themselves....

Nice starting point 2

Scans and summary can be seen hereThe Good While I can’t say the art by Kev Walker is my favorite, he does strive to give each individual character a unique look and “interpretation”. Even if there was no color all the important characters of the team have specific dimensions and mannerisms in just this one issue that I must tip my hat to Walker. The story was all set up, but I found myself liking the various ties that the series has in terms of throwback members such as Moonstone, Songb...

Surprisingly good 0

For summary and scans click hereThe Good Princess Zanda’s first appearance! The legendary Jack Kirby writes the first Black Panther series! King Solomon’s Frog as a concept will make an appearance in every Black Panther ongoing 9except the one staring Shuri)  thus into the very Mythos of Black Panther. This is it’s first appearance. The retro art still holds up today thanks to great pencil work by Mike Royer and colors courtesy of Dave Hunt. The issue although created back in 1977 does not...

Loving it! 0

Summary and scans are hereThe Good Art- courtesy of Frazer Irving hits all the right notes, a dark and foreboding style which is too bright to be noir yet dark enough to be gritty. Cover- A very dynamic shot of our new Azrael in the “suit of sorrows”, easily a poster worthy shot. Accessibility- This issue gave enough back story on MWL for new readers to understand his mental state and ties to Batman that would warrant him taking over the role of Azrael. Canon- This story also fits nicely ...

Iconic! 0

For summary and scans click hereThe Good Raquel…….here is a character who everyone who’s ever had a dream or been broke at one point or another can relate to. She has a good heart, great talent BUT the world just has never handed her a break. She’s poor, probably can’t find a job has no work experience etc and of course we have Icon Lofty as all HELL!!! He honesty to god thinks that those who are poor have done something to deserve their station in life or simply have not worked hard en...

Surprisingly average 0

For summary and scans click hereThe Good Virgil and his mother get great characterization and to a minor extent his sister. Virgil comes across as the insecure friend you had in high school he feels the need to hide his inadequacy with constant jokes and one liners. There was good action and the art seemed to match the tone of the story and the overall style of the dakotaverse. Overall for a first issue the story was adequate it gave us the titular star and his powers, a love interest, a ...

A legend is born! 0

For Summary and scans click here The Good Where do I start? This issue showed Luke Cage for the first time and is historic and icon all at once. Luke’s origin easily holds up even today and that’s a testament to the solid foundations by Archie Goodwin. The story flows smoothly from his time in prison to his retelling of his past.  Luke is also a character easy to empathize with, his best friend now an enemy, innocent man in prison and love lost. It’s not often that a first issue has the...

Very disapointing 2

For summary and scans click hereThe Good Further adventures of Black Panther Shuri- It was great seeing a story focus on her again after the Doomwar fallout. Cover- Both the standard cover and the alternate are great to look at! The alternate with it’s dino heavy action is a fave of mine. Villain- It was good for Klaw a longtime Panther enemy to be used once more. Summary- The events leading up to her arrival in the savage land were well summarized even though they served to lengthen the sto...

the legend 0

Summary and scans can be viewed here The GoodThe artist and colorists use of light and dark was particularly well down. The battle between anti-man and the mighty avengers looked well thanks to the light and dark contrast. I also enjoyed the trip back in time to “racist” America something that you can easily take for granted if you’ve never been a minority your whole life. It was also an interesting read about the retirement of the blue marvel since it will be a very polarizing event to r...
