I'll be honest, I've decided to drop the book after the conclusion of the Mary Jane Venom story. It's not that it's bad...it just feels superficial. I don't need super deep writing, but some of this just comes off as lazy. Also, it sucks to finally get Peter Parker back, only to realize he's not really the focus of the book.

Maybe I'm just being super picky, but I'll likely wait a while before giving it another chance. It also hurts that the artist can't seem to stick around, which is a regular Marvel problem.

Spoilers!

I'm not going to lie, RYV #7 fell a little flat for me. Magneto's character was bland and his attempt on the school just seemed very ill conceived. And don't get me wrong, I love MJ and all but you're going to have her single-handedly take down Magneto and Emma Front in basically a single panel?! I don't care how distracted they were...that's just lazy storytelling.

Also, I hope we can move beyond "worry wart dad" Peter Parker. I understand Conway is trying to make his new Spider family shine, but is it so bad to let Spidey have a notable feat or two in his own book?

Art was great and the overall concept still has legs. Just hope we see some more progression in the next couple issues.

Lastly, open question - isn't Magneto's helmet supposed to shield him from psychic powers? How is Frost controlling him?

@enzo991: Beating someone doesn't automatically mean they have better combat prowess. Batman with prep beats basically anything.

However as I mentioned earlier, there's nothing to suggest that Dick has attained a better level of combat than Bruce. I would love to see a published example anywhere where that has happened, but it hasn't. Until a writer like Tom actually puts his money where his mouth is, these twitter lists are pretty irrelevant. Same applies for Duke.

Personally, I love the idea of Dick bypassing Bruce in combat prowess. That doesn't lessen Batman at all as a character in my mind. The problem is no one has ever written Dick that way. The character is still treated like tier 2 material.

As for Duke, there's nothing to suggest he should be anything but dead-last on this list. Tom is just tipping his hat to Scott Snyder on that one.

Wow, I'm actually amazed that the poll is deadlocked. I voted 'Yes' for the following reasons:

1) You're never going to truly remove politics from comics, even mainstream superhero comics. Sorry, but history shows this.

2) The left is already over represented across the medium, which is likely a reflection of the creative industry overall.

3) Right-leaning characters make for interesting characters.

I'll admit CW can design a decent costume. If only they could produce something that wasn't aimed at teenyboppers.

At the risk of sounding insensitive, if I could truly change anything, it'd be preventing Heath from overdosing. The original plan for the trilogy was to have his Joker in the third movie.

@rabumalal: Ok, I'll bite. Just because you touched upon a pet peeve of mine.

Even a superstar misses his shots sometimes. Just because the hero is capable doesn't mean misteps don't happen. That's the problem with comic readers, they scream PIS whenever Batman doesn't crack the case in two panels, or Superman struggles against a lower tier villain. Why do we demand optimal performance from these characters at every single moment? I interpreted it as Peter being distracted as opposed to useless, because given the context of what was happening it made sense.

How was MJ annoying? She seemed more accepting of taking the obvious path of "super family" than Peter. I'll admit the argument seemed unnecessary. I mean, they already made their daughter a spider costume for Christ's sake.

That being said, it's a light-hearted comic that's clearly hearkening back to a bygone era when every book wasn't dark and brooding. It's a back-to-basics attempt at plain, simple fun. Hopefully it gets deeper than that as we progress, but I'm still encouraged by what we've seen.
