What about Cyborg? I think his key backer is Johns, and he's not going to direct or write that. Poor Power Girl doesn't seem to have anyone within DC who cares much about her, and I doubt there's anyone outside associated with WB or in Hollywood in general who cares much, or appreciates how much a good producer/director/writer can put his or her stamp on the character. Hell, I'd love for someone like Gunn, who took a LOT of effort to put together those movies, to take an interest in PG. He's totally different from Snyder, who seemed to put little effort into either thinking through his story, or putting his stuff on-screen, (witness his allowing the VFX team's little sex toy joke to ruin what was arguably one of the most awesome moments of MoS....or what should have been, the Phantom Zone scene). No other director I can think of would have allowed his VFX guys to do that on a $200 million plus movie. But Gunn took his time putting together both movies, and it showed.
The biggest issue I see for Cyborg is what separates him in the landscape. We have so many super hero movies these days you need something more unless you are the A-List icon (Superman, Batman, Wonder Woman). Deadpool went R rated and humor with people that cared and it paid off. I didn't enjoy Suicide Squad, but the clearly had a marketing machine for the Hot Topic crowd.
I'm not sure who is directing Cyborg, but if I were to pick a DCEU to flop, that or the Flash would be my guesses, but they are both way off so hard to say.
Judging from the trailers, they're going with a VERY straight dramatic Cyborg with little to no sense of humor, and an actor who plays it absolutely that way. Meaning no Deadpool treatment. And no real reason to watch. Remember the Robocop reboot? Neither do I, and that was basically Cyborg as a character. Flash just sound like a mess. At this point I'm not even certain either of them will get made. Sort of depends on Justice League I suppose. Which itself doesn't sound promising. But at least with Flash we've heard about the endless director changes and script rewrites, with Cyborg we've heard exactly nothing so far, which likely means they haven't even started with the script or pre-production. If I were DC, I'd bail on those movies....I don't think anyone's crying to see Cyborg, and Flash sounds like they messed up the take on Barry from the start, making him into Peter Parker instead.
In a way it sounds like maybe PG is doing okay by not having WB screw a movie with her up like they seem to do with most everything.
I think the Cyborg movie has been, for all intents and purposes, cancelled at this point. Unless he is a stand out character in JL, he's gonna have the same role Black Widow has in the MCU. I think the Flashpoint movie is replacing the Flash solo, which sucks for the Flash and his fans because people tend to remember Thomas Wayne Batman more in that story than Flash himself.
As for as Power Girl goes, I don't care much about movies, TV or games right now. At this point I just want her to have her own solo book or play a very prominent role in a team book. . She just needs to be re-established in the comics and get back on the track she was on before the reboot screwed her over. Despite her solo book selling not so great and ending on a whimper, she was slowly gaining prominence in the DCU (mostly due to her role in JSA) and she could could be said to be a solid 3rd tier character. I just want to consistently see her in a comic every month written by someone who likes and respects her.
(Plus I know that if she ever shows up on the Supergirl show, they will ruin her. She'll probably end up being a bland, evil alternate version of Kara rather than a hero and three dimensional character.)
