Princess Selena

A day of non-sequitur blogs continues, and this one is really non-sequitur as it deals more with fashion than it does with comics. There are a few people that I share thoughts and ideas with online, and for those that I get to know better, there is more of an intersect between all of my interests. Sometimes these interests are somewhat superficial (fashion) and sometimes they are deeper. I was searching through an older discussion looking for some stuff that I had always meant to post as a blog, but never got around to it. In so doing I came across a couple of other things, though one is a little out there. For anyone that does follow along with these blogs, they will know that one of my interests is fairy tales and so I have a fair habit of reading fairy tale inspired comics, and then of discussing them. One of the things that I don't generally look at though is the fashion in the fairy tale comics. Let me first though post another picture which might seem a little unrelated but in an unrelated way kind of is:

This is one of the more interesting dresses which Selena has worn in the past few years, and one which got a fair amount of coverage compared to others, the main distinguishing features being the colours and the zipper. The zipper in itself is not entirely pointless, rather the choice of material used to create the zipper is such that it is meant to be noticed, and in a sense this is a form of jewelry embellishment of the dress, similar as would be common to ... a fairy tale princess? On the surface I guess that there are not that many similarities, but the concept of the fairy tale princess in the modern world is one which has gained a lot of popularity in recent years especially through comics, though what is considered to be "fairy tale fashion" has changed as characters are updated. Fashion of course has only so many avenues to pursue as it is still constrained by fabric and other materials, but even such a dress as designed by a modern designer can appear to fairy tale like in a certain way.
