Sorry to interrupt most of this boards "Superhero vs Superhero: Who wold win" topics. Just wanted to say that artist Josh Medors has passed away today. He has been fighting a rare form of spinal cancer for years now. He was most noted for "Frank Frazettas Swamp Demon" and "Runes of Ragnan" as well as a freelance artist doing covers. Josh was a special dude, who I had met through some industry friends of mine. Super friendly and could put back a beer or two. He is survived by his wife and son.

Take a minute to head over to http://www.heroinitiative.org/ a non profit organization that helps comic artists when times get tough. They helped Medors last year via the Hope For Heroes.

I'll probably be called intolerant or a bigot because I dont agree with the majority but whatev. In a medium that should be, but isn't, targeted at kids does this issue really need to be brought up in this form of entertainment? I mean the way I see it, its not a way to introduce a gay character and "look at how normal he is!" its a pretty blatant cheap trick to make headlines and sell more books.

I think a segment every week or so showcasing the crew working on a cosplay costume for SDCC would go over well. The twist? The newest intern has to model it at the show.

I like Garth Ennis and all but how is this going to be that much different than Preacher or The Boys?

Except the time period this seems like a one man The Boys...

Do you have ANY clue on who the Shadow is? Have you ever read any of the stories? How can looking at these covers inspire you to say any of those insipid thoughts?

Check the programming ahead of time to see if there is any panels or Q&A's that you would want to attend. Just be aware that Marvel and DC dont have a presence there anymore. Its mainly Dark Horse (sometimes) and Avatar as the big booths. What is really going on at Chicago is artists alley, where you can expose yourself to several little companies and meet the people behind the books. Also if sketches are your thing, thats the place to be. And if you want cast members of Survivor or old wrestlers autographs, they are there too (the poor bastards).

As far as lodging goes, when I go up with my friend to set up at his table, we usually find a hotel about a mile and half or 2 miles away. Econolodge Express Deluxe (?) or something like that. Its crazy cheap, like 60-70 bucks a night. The only problem I see is parking if you dont have someone to drop you off. There is a garage across the street from the Rosemont Convention Center, but its a little pricey and fills up pretty quick.

I cant really help you as far as getting tickets, mine are comped most of the time, but to get the best value go ahead and get the 3 day pass. I think it comes with admission to "preview night" on that Thursday, but dont quote me on that. Also be aware that they have been selling alcohol on the premesis the last few years and there sometimes are porn stars at some booths (re: your 10 year old) so keep an eye out for that.

I havent checked the guest list but Wizard usually posts up that info pretty early so just keep checking back on their site for updates on whos going to be there and whats going on during the weekend.

PS. Go to the Ram down the street and around the corner, its pretty good food. Also Giordanos for pizza. Delicious deep dish. (But its always packed).

PPSS. If this con isnt your cup of tea there is C2E2 at a different time of the year but its further downtown and I dont have any experience with it. So just a heads up. Hope this helped.

If I could make a suggestion that is out of left field, I'd say "Revelations" by Paul Jenkins and Humberto Ramos. Its a fairly dark murder mystery revolving around the Catholic church. Try to reach out beyond what most of these people are saying (i.e. superhero books) there's so much more out there than the tights.

Oh just thought of "Blacksad" buy some french dude and some other french dude that worked for Disney. Think Sam Spade in a more adult type environment, but where everyone looks like a Disney animal. Hmm.. not the best way to describe it. Just google the book and check out the artwork. Its beautiful.

Floppy comics on the shitter. I mean thats where they belong. They arent worth spending money to bag and board them and "preserve" them. Treat em like a 5 minute magazine and then toss em in a box.

And as to the point of differeing characterizations fo the same character, you can chalk that up to slipshod writing.

I'ma firm believer that there should be lest connectivity between books. I mean isnt that what books like JLA were created for, to facilitate that kind of cohesion? I think continuity should go around the back of the shed and die quietly. It would make it infinitely easier for a new reader coming in, especially younger kids that can get lost in the morass. I mean the industry as a whole needs a younger generation getting involved to renew their consumer base. They cant do that if they keep hitting a brick wall of nigh-impenetrable continuity and crossovers. That a Diamond needs to implode on its self. But thats another rant.
