I'd have to say original Scarlet Spider, black costume, the suit he was wearing in the future when he was old and got killed by the police or something, and the costume from What if Wolverine Vs Spider-Man.
One of my main issues with OMD was that Mephisto wasn't a Spidey villian, and as much as I love Spider-Man they're way out of each other's leagues, it'd be like Galactus wanting to screw over Daredevil. If they were gonna break them up then they should have had it involve a central Spider-Man villian like Norman Osborn or Doc Ock. But I will say that as bad as OMD was a lot of good things came out of it. Peter seemed younger and more free spirited than I had read him being in years.
What I don't understand is how OMD is universally reviled by Spidey fans, but Queseda continues to be a driving force in Marvel. But as bad as OMD was I'd say the whole "Gwen Stacey actually banged Norman Osborn and had his kids" storyline was way worse. At least something good came out of OMD, Peter was younger place and single again, but the Sins Past story line was just dreadful.
I really don't think they can just be friends because their relationship didn't go bad, at least not naturally, it was magically changed. And didn't Mephisto even say that even though they wouldn't remember the whole magic retcon some piece of Peter's soul would always remember, and that was what Mephisto wanted from the beginning? So even if they think they're over each other there's still that small part of their souls that know they're supposed to be together.
Personally I never liked Carlie, I just didn't feel she had enough personality to be interesting. As much as I hate OMD, I did like the single Spidey adventures in BND. I mean come on seeing Pete get drunk and sleep with his female roommate (even though later on in the series it was said that they didn't do anything) made me laugh, as well as the random hook up with Black Cat in a hotel room was pretty good.
Personally I think it'd be a really good idea, mainly because it'd be nice to see a love interest in Peter's life that's someone other than the standard list. Plus I'd love to see the dynamic of Spider-Man dating someone who is physically stronger than him. As much as I'm a fan of the Peter/MJ relationship, and think that eventually it needs to go back to that, I think the time with them apart needs to be used to push him in new directions.
