The pressure of the interfering energy signatures that the statue emitted pressed against Lux’s forearms like a hundred jack hammers angrily trying to break his surface as he molded and configured the statue’s base with a coated silver lining to the dark cloud of hopelessness that the statue had become. Even as he started to physically morph and entwine within the statue’s foundation, Lux pushed, both physically and mentally drilling himself deeper into the statue’s hot embrace. Within seconds Lux had successfully burrowed his entire body beneath the towering copper statue but to his horror his powers began to deplete causing him to slowly but surely transform back to his human form and shape. Inch by inch his flesh slowly crawled back out of its metallic jacket and inch by inch he felt the pain of 225 tons of copper and fire press against his worn out body with the support of nothing but the unbreakable foundation that he had created himself. He was slowly dying and there was nothing he could do. Nothing he could do but say goodbye. “Maria. Can you hear me?” Nathan spoke briskly into his barely functioning ear piece from within his quickly escaping armor. In his imploding tomb the only thing that could damage his soul was the thought of him not being able to say goodbye to the love of his life. The images of their time spent together flooded his brain as his torso slowly revealed itself to its inevitable doom. “I just want you to know that I’m sorry for everything. For everything I have done to you and everything you have probably watched me do today. I’m sorry for letting you see the horrors of my true self. I’m sorry for being Lux Invictus when I had everything I ever needed right in front of me. Maria, I love y—“
Before Nathan could finish his sentence the statue buckled on top of the of the foundation and in an instant the tomb that Nathan had created for himself was nothing more than rubble beneath the weight of the entire statue.
Somewhere in Venezuela
Her hands cuffed her speechless mouth as she watched her only husband flatten beneath the Statue of Liberty from the images generated by her satellite phone. Her tears slowly began to develop and grow over her irises and within seconds break out onto her flushed face. She had heard every single word but remained silent even as her husband pleaded for her reassurance in his dying act of resolution. She allowed herself to hide behind closed lips in fear that her husband would take her response as forgiveness. Even after witnessing him purge beneath the copper giant, she resented him for everything that he had done and committed on the island but still she wept. She wept for his death, for the innocent people who had died on the island, for the lives that her husband had taken as well as the ones that he had saved, and especially for the crown of thorns that she would have to wear upon her head for the rest of her life. This was not only the end of her marriage and her husband, but of her life as well. He was everything to her and she everything to him. They were one half to each other, a piece of one another and now that she was forever destined to be incomplete there was nothing left to move onto. If it hadn’t been for the quiet grumble that transmitted through her cellular device at the last second she would have been dead within minutes of gulfing down the prescription pills that shook steadily in her hand. “Nathan!” She screamed into her phone eagerly. The stone cold word “victory” is the only thing that greeted her plea.
New York City, underneath the Statue of Liberty
His arms trembled and cracked intravenously as he raised the structure over his swollen frame. His cold metallic eyes glistened beneath the glowing cloak of embers that gleamed around the statue’s feet. He could feel her vibrating rigorously with each inch of successfully raising the green mammoth of a statue off of him. “Victory!” he screamed in fortitude and valiancy as he straightened his knees and raised the monumental figure over his head. To his luck the statue and its possessor had been caught off guard after being attacked by another who like him wanted to see the statue be reduced to nothing but rubble and dying embers. Taking this moment to finally and truly attempt to end this reign of destruction and terror, Lux Invictus aimed towards the ocean and with the split second he had left to act, he strained his cracked arms and broken fists and released.
