Francavilla turns this story into a masterpiece 1
It's really weird 'cause when I've read this comic up until now I have time after time told myself that the true genius behind it i David Aja rather than Matt Fraction. I think Ajas art has risen Fractions stories to a new level, a level where the occacional flaws in Fractions writing becomes less visible. Going in the right direction but somewhat confusing 0
This issue kicks off with the continuation of what happened to Magik in the very end of issues no 4. She tells Cyclops how she apparently teleported to Limbo and met up with the demon Dormammu (the later being a character which Bendis has used a couple times before). The interaction with the demon summons the Darkchilde out of Magik. Death of the Family continues. I was impressed by Batman 13 even though I feel it started of better than it finished. This issue keeps on at the same pacing and style as the last issue ended with. That many very short sections, almost snippets, telling a fast paced story. For me, these snippets have the same problem as the end of the last issue. It becomes a bit rushed and messed up. Okay, so I'm reading this as a part of the Death of the Family epic. Maybe my input would be different if I could relate the content of this comic to the context of the Batman & Robin series. For some reason I decided to not read Death of The Family during the months which the story was released. I am a fan of Scott Snyder (both his Batman run and his Severed comic) and anticipated great things from him writing about the return of Joker. But I had so much other things to do in the second half of 2012 that I decided to wait until the whole epic was released before I started consuming it. So, at first I really enjoyed this series. It seemed like a great fit both for the X-Men franchise and for BMB. X-Men got a fresh storyline and a book which really included and summoned a lot of good, but very varied storylines which have featured in books like Uncanny X-Men, Uncanny X-Force, Wolverine and the X-men etc. the last couple of years. A bit messy but still good 0
So I continue to try to search out old copies of the original Suicide Squad and even though everything isn't top notch writing it still good enough not to disappoint me. In this issue the team takes off to russia for a mission which centres around freeing a political prisoner. Ostrander chooses to involce the penguin for some reason which sort of confuses the story for me but it doesn't mess it up completely. He continues to fill the pages with a vibe of realism, the characters have many layers...

Original Suicide Squad has aged nicely 1
I don't remeber this series from the 80's and 90's. Maybe it's not so strange since I was more of marvel fan than dc growing up. I really liked the first couple of issues of the new 52 Suicide Squad and I have to say that I'm very pleased that it has borrowed most of it's good stuff from John Ostranders original run. Remender and Cassaday are worth waiting for 0
It seems like forever since we got a new number of this comic. Maybe it has been forever. In the time where Bendis has managed to out six issues of All New X-Men Rick Remender and John Cassaday have only managed a couple of issues of Uncanny Avengers. Fortunately it is a comic worth waiting for. Remender writes a great Red Skull and he continues to create nasty, weird villain teams. Cassadays art gives a comic a classic, almost epic feeling and it really makes Red Skull feel like a sort timeles...

The story starts of one year after the last issue ended. I neat trick which makes the relationship between Cap and Ian a bit believable. They have been surviving in dimension z together and Cap mentions repercussions of the experiments Zola performed on him. After that intro the story really takes of into an actionfilled chase scene where Captain America is fighting of some rather Kirbyesque creations which are trying to capture Cap and Ian and bring them to Zola. The first story arc of Ultimate Spiderman was interesting but not very impressive. Brian Michael Bendis did a good job of working the origin of Peter Parker and Spiderman into a modern (or 10 years after, at least more modern) setting. When I sit down to write this review I am almost amazed by the fact that this story turned out so bland since most of the ingredients are appealing.
