@Liberty: First, let me address "Why Hal Is Not That Great" 1. He soon came back. Everyone needs a break sometimes, and need I remind you that Guy and John have also left the Corps. 2. I don't recall the specific comic/circumstances where Hal tried to take away John's ring, but Guy has always been fairly selfish and beligerent, so Hal is justified in not wanting him to serve in the Corps. 3. Again, Guy pretty much earned it. Hal originally had no intention of stealing Kari, things just fell together the way they did after Guy was gone. 4. Questioning orders is one of Hal's best character traits. He, Guy, John and Kyle will frequently disobey the Gaurdians if they think it's for the greater good, so it's perfectly reasonable that Hal would question the afformentioned jerk-on-the-outside, Guy Gardner. 5. This has always been morally questionable, as she's technically over 200 years old. I won't say that makes it right, but it makes it open to debate. 6. This was a one time offense. For the most part, his drinking has been displayed as being casual, on par with Guy and John. 7. Keep in mind that A. Hal doesn't just protect Coast City, he protects all of Sector 2814, and B. The city was destroyed by the combined forces of Mongul and Cyborg Superman, two villains that are individually equal if not greater in strength to Superman and most Green Lanterns. 8. This has been considered extremely out of character for Hal from the time it happened. The Parallax retcon doesn't make total sense, but it's the only justification for some truely bad writting. 9. This was keeping in continuity with said bad writting. 10. These comics came out in a time period where such behavior was much more acceptable. As you said, he still treated Tom as a good friend. The later issue of Green Lantern/Green Arrow where his predjudice was addressed was done entirely because the times where changing, and it was needed for Hal to realize the error of his ways and change, which he did. Hal eventually became a close friend of John Stewart, and felt genuinely sorry for his behavior. Most of it has also been retconed in order for it to make sense that Hal and other heroes have only been active for a little over ten years.
What makes Hal's personality so great in earlier comics was that he had the same noble intentions as Superman, but was more human. He had character flaws, especially overconfidence, but he's willing to own up to this. Since the Green Lantern rings are powered by sheer force of will, he often turns this flaw into an advantage, constantly persisting against enemies more powerful than him, and by extention, making his ring more powerful. He was the first to show us what the intergalactic Green Lanterns could be, not because he was the first, and not because he's perfect, but because he always does the best he can.
I'm glad to see that Stan's going with a moe decompressed writting style on this one. The man's a freaking god, but his more recent work has had a distinct Silver Age flavor to it.
Oh come on, if you don't have any footage, then why make an over the top logo. At least the first trailer for the Dark Knight had actual diolauge from the film.
I know I'm in the minority here, but I think it looks aweful. Not only was the acting was totally wooden, and not only did Mjolnir look completely unimpressive when he swung it, but they seem to be implying that the majority of the movie will be Thor on Earth without his powers, and I don't understand why anyone would want to see that. I don't mind seeing Donald Blake or one of his other human counterparts spending a lot of time coping with being joined to Thor, and I don't mind seeing Thor spend a lot of time learning how to use his powers on Earth, but Thor without powers just seems boring. Maybe the movie won't be like that, but if that's the case then this trailer was poorly edited.
