Review: Green Lantern Corps #48 0

Ganthet leaves his long term job as a Guardian, for both the Green and Blue Lantern Corps in order to become a Green Lantern. John Stewart teams up with the Alpha Lanterns.  The Good Everything seems to be a tie-in with Brightest Day, and although it seems incredibly annoying, this issue is anything but that. It finally feels like the Green Lantern Corps book is doing its own thing for once as Ganthet becomes a Green Lantern, and as John Stewart assists Boodikka. This story also has a "one of us...

Review: Incorruptible #6 0

More of Jailbait's history is revealed, and Max Damage goes on a rampage to save her from Deathgiver and the Diamond Gang.  The Good The writing and art are both solid, just not together (see below).  I love the teamwork between Louis, Max, and Jailbait. Brains/Common Sense meets Brawn meets Teen Angst Filled Girl in a Tight Outfit. I love the character of Max Damage more than anything else. He's a total tough guy and not afraid to show it. Normally, the tough guy routine bored me to death, but ...

Review: Amazing Spider-Man 632 0

The Shed story continues with part 3 as Spider-Man hunts down the Lizard after he killed his own son Billy Conners.  The Good I've never been a huge Spider-Man fan, but I've been off and on following everything after the events of One More Day to see how it affects Peter's life, and sometimes the stories are hits and other times, they are misses. This Shed storyline, and especially this issue is one gigantic hit. The story had two different artists, which I'd normally hate: Chris Bachalo pg. 1-5...

Review: Green Lantern #54 0

Atrocitus makes Earth his home and seemingly tries to protect Earth's people as Star Sapphire, Sinestro, and Hal Jordan figure out the purpose of the White Lantern on Earth and what they have to do in order to maintain peace across the universe.  The Good Finally, an issue about working together as a team instead of everyone fighting each other. True, Blackest Night did bring many lanterns together to reach the same goal, but this issue has them working together because they want to. I also no l...

Review: Ultimate Comics Avengers 2 #2 0

Ultimate Avengers 2 continues forward as the team slowly comes together. War Machine battles it out with Tyrone Cash, and we learn a little bit of history about Tyrone Cash and how he became the super-powered beast that he is today.   The Good I'm a huge sucker for Leinil Francis Yu, but this issue really caught my eye. His panel composition when Tyrone Cash is fighting War Machine is nothing short of breathtaking. I'm loving the thick angled panels during the fights. It really draws the eye to...

Review: Rescue 1

Popping out of the amazing Invincible Iron Man book, Pepper Potts puts on the Rescue Iron Man suit and travels the world looking for people to save in this one-shot issue.    The Good I love the current Invincible Iron Man book. It's my favorite Marvel book out right now, and getting to see Pepper Potts in her own book, at least for one issue, looked exciting to me; however, this is a throw-away story. There are a couple of good things in this issue though. The writing and art are pretty solid p...

Review: DC Universe Legacies 0

The Good This book doesn’t necessarily follow the Justice Society members themselves, but a single man who had a health obsession with the Golden Age heroes. I loved the take on this. Too many times, we just follow the team, but less often, we follow someone that looks up to them and has their own bump-ins with the heroes. This book does a great job at introducing the reader to two characters who may not get the limelight as much as the rest of the JSA, Sandman and the original Atom. The back-...

Review: Titans Villains for Hire Special 0

With Osiris back in town, that makes this little diddy a Brightest Day tie-in. These new Titans are all formed up with the intention on killing the Atom, Ryan Choi. who survives? Who bites the bucket? Is the tension so great that you'll be unable to finish the comic?   The Good I don't know whether I like or dislike this book. I'm right down the middle. I'm enjoying the main story artist on this book immensely,  Fabrizio Fiorentino I believe. The story is so-so, but I like the dynamic of th...

Review: Amazing Spider-Man #631 0

Spider-Man vies to save the son of Curt Conners, as the Lizard-side battles Curt for dominance over his body. In addition, the daughter of Kraven, Ana Kravinoff, is also a key player in this story. Can Spider-Man overcome these obstacles to save a life?  The Good I've never really been a fan of the Lizard, until this issue. I really enjoyed the inner battle as The Lizard made his choices within this book: the battle between Curt's humanity and The Lizard's primal urges. This issue comes do...

Review: Incredible Hulk #609 0

World War Hulks is in high gear as Bruce Banner, and Skaar take on all the Hulked Out Heroes in this action-packed issue of Incredible Hulk.  The Good The two things I loved most about this issue were Paul Pelletier's pencils and Frank D'Armatta's colors. I usually don't get too excited about colors, but I loved how they popped off the page in this issue, and it wasn't annoying by any means. Pelletier's pencils are pretty standard, but his standard work is better than a lot of the other art...

Review: Avengers: The Initiative #35 0

Born out of the Superhero Registration Act, what is this team to do when the law is repealed? This issue takes place right after the events of Siege #4, and since it is the last issue of the series, they're essentially wrapping everything up into a nice tight package.   The Good I don't normally read this book, and frankly, I'm not a fan of Siege, so I really don't have any clue who these characters are and what's going on. I do, however, really like the idea of the team in this book. Agai...

Review: Flash #2 0

The Reverse-Flash Task Force (RFTF) has accused Barry "The Flash" Allen of murdering Mirror Monarch (a futuristic version of Mirror Master), and Flash must do what he can to prove his innocence.   The Good What isn't good about this comic? Where to start. Francis Manapul, once again, has hit a home run with his artwork. I feel that his style fits the Barry Allen character better than any of the other books he does, and I also love how he draws the rogues. The story is incredibly entertaini...

Review: Hulk #22 1

Red Hulk spends time fighting heroes within the Marvel universe who have also been bombarded with Gamma Radiation and have the same Hulk-like powers. After a confrontation with Spider-Hulk and Wolvie-Hulk, Red She Hulk finds out the true identity of the Red Hulk.  The Good Without spoiling who the Red Hulk actually is, I'd say I'm happy with who it turned out to be. It makes sense to me. The issue contains the super-fun art of Ed McGuinness, and that's what this is, a super-fun story. It's ...

Review: Sweet Tooth #9 0

Sweet Tooth (Gus) is still in captivity, and Jepperd explores more of his past in relation to Abbot, a man working for Dr. Singh.  The Good Jeff Lemire's writing is wonderful. We are surrounded by mystery in this world he has created, and instead of giving us everything either right in the beginning or in one random issue, we get snippets of what happened, who was involved, and when it all took place throughout each issue. Not too much though, but just enough to keep the reader interested and ...

Review: Jonah Hex #55 0

Jonah Hex marches forward, with a feature length film on the way. This latest issue is much like a few other recent books, it's more of a one-shot than anything. These past few issues have been real strong, and incredibly enjoyable. This newest issue follows the short life of Billy Dynamite, and he's exactly what you think: A kid with some dynamite.   The Good This is the best western book currently on the market. It's also one of DC's better books overall. Gray and Palmiotti have a great r...

Review: The Many Loves of the Amazing Spider-Man 0

The random book I picked this week was this, The Many Loves of the Amazing-Spider Man, and I expected it to be "blah" at best; however, this was one of those books that really surprised me. This one-shot contains three stories: One involving Black cat, one with Carlie and Gwen, and the last story with Mary Jane.  The Good Story one was so much fun! Not only that, but is was laugh out loud funny. This wasn't as much about Black Cat as it was about Spider-Man in a hilariously awkward situati...

Review: Dellec #4 0

Aspen Comics sent us a copy of Dellec #4 a week early check out. I also went back and read the first 3 issues, since I've never read the book before. This issue deals with Dellec being charged with the murder of a prostitute that he didn't commit, and his time in prison. In addition, we also get a little more back story on where Dellec's Godly Kendo Sticks came from. This issue will be released Wednesday, May 5th.  The Good This issue reads like an epic action film. I'm not saying that b...

Review: Ultimate Comics New Ultimates #2 0

Loki brought the the party  from Asguard to Earth in this New Ultimates series as the Ultimates reformed to battle Loki's army. With Thor gone, and many other heroes because of the recent Ultimatum series, can this new group of Ultimates defeat the Loki army and work together as a team?  The Good Best part about this book is the work of Frank Cho. It's curvy and sexy and I love how this guy sets up action. His two-page splash page with Ka-zar and Shanna is amazingly detailed and it really p...

Review: Action Comics #889 0

A stunning conclusion to the Flamebird and Nightwing run on Action Comics. Ok, maybe not so "stunning" as it is "typical" for a comic book, but this issue seems to end the run of these two characters taking over Action Comics while Superman was on New Krypton doing his thing. Will these two protectors survive, or will they sacrifice themselves to save humanity?   The Good  The finale to this storyline has an "against all odds" feel to it: The heroes must defeat the ultimate power in order t...

Review: Fantastic Four #578 0

Negative Zone madness! Johnny Storm ventures into the negative zone. I haven't picked up a F4 book in quite some time, and I know I've missed out on a lot of stuff, but luckily, Marvel has those sweet catch-up pages to let me know what I've missed out on since the last time I truly read a F4 book, when Human Torch was a herald of Galactus, during Disassembled.  The Good I enjoyed some of the more action-orientated splash panels in this issue, Hickman's writing is usually pretty strong, but ...

Review: Justice League The Rise of Arsenal #2 0

Issue two of The Rise of Arsenal roles around as J.T. Krul shows all the Arrow fans that we seriously don't need three archers running around the DCU. The cover may deceive you, as many covers do on a weekly basis, since this book is less about getting your fight on and more about Roy dealing with the loss of his arm and the recent arrest of his adoptive father Green Arrow.  The Good J.T. Krul is the main reason I'm reading this book. His writing is stellar, and he takes an action orientated ...

Review: Fraggle Rock #1 1

Dance your cares away, worries for another day. Let the music play, down at Fraggle Rock. ::clap clap:: Now that I've covered the most important part about Fraggle Rock, I can continue. Like most things Jim Henson was involved with during the 70s and 80s, I remember Fraggle Rock being pure gold; however, I really haven't watched the show since it was on the air. Fraggle Rock is the newest property of Archaia Comics, and of course, this is a kids books, but I'm a child at heart anyway.   ...

Review: Justice Society of America #38 0

This is part three of the current story. This parallel world-esque story continues as the Forth Reich has taken over the world and the only Justice Society of America member left Mr. Terrific deals with a future he seemingly could have prevented. This issue revolves more around how the Forth Reich came to power, and how they got rid of some of Earth's toughest superheroes.   The Good  This is truly an amazing story. I love essentially "what if" books and although this seemingly takes place i...

Review: Ultimate Comics Avengers 2 #1 1

The team of Mark Millar and Leinil Francis Yu brings together a new team of Ultimate Avengers for 2010. This series seems to focus on Punisher and his possible upcoming relationship (good or bad) with Nick Fury and S.H.I.E.L.D. The last series of the Ultimate Avengers, which ended last week, was just ok, so hopefully, a new creative team can get this Ultimate train running. The Good   This is the first time I've seen Ultimate Punisher. I'm not sure if he's been in an Ultimate comic before,...

Review: Joe The Barbarian #4 0

Grant Morrison and Sean Murphy's Vertigo run continues as a boy get trapped in his own imagination, and ends up in a kingdom where some want to kill him and others want to help him. Although it's only 4 issues in, does this book have the steam to go all the way? Or will it fizzle out into the world of mediocrity?  The Good The character design in this book is phenomenal, especially when it comes to costumes/clothing. I am such a big fan of Joe's outfit, and I can never really remember a ...

Review: Firestar One-Shot 1

One of the members of Spider-Man and His Amazing Friends takes off into her own one-shot book as Marvel celebrates the women superheroes we've all grown to love over the years. Marvel catches everyone up with the first page letting the reader know that Angelica Jones AKA Firestar has been dealing with cancer due to her own powers. Almost out of the clear, Firestar makes her way back into the super-hero community as well as checking herself into college.  The Good This is a great story, but ...

Review: The Magdalena #1 1

I've never heard of this character. I don't read much Top Cow. I was pretty skeptical going into this book. What is this about? Am I going to like it? I was a blank slate when it came to Magdalena, and the first issue of a new series, especially when it's an already established character, can be a hard thing to judge. Will this book be able to please a person who has never heard of it before? Will I be utterly confused as to what is going on?   The Good I want to high five Ron Marz for the ...

Review Ultimate Comics Spider-Man #9 0

The Ultimate universe tends to be incredibly serious, except for the little world Spider-Man lives in. Ultimate Comics Spider-Man is a lot more fun compared to its other Ultimate counterparts. It follow Peter Parker through high school as he deals with all the woes of being a teenager, along with fighting super-powered criminals, while keeping his grades up.   The Good  Again, this book is a lot of fun, so much so that after looking through it again, I noticed I ignored the ads because I wa...

Review: Justice League of America #44 0

The second Brightest Day tie-in is upon us as JLA 44 hits the shelves. Besides that, it also could be considered a tie-in to Justice Society of America. But are these newest Brightest Day tie-ins worthwhile? Or like many tie-ins to big stories, are they completely worthless?   The Good JLA can be a hit or a miss for me depending on who is on the team. The new team may not be so exciting for me, but the cameos really drew me in. I'm a huge JSA fan, and the JSA guest starring roles, and the vil...

Review: Azrael #7 0

Sometimes you're so out of the loop, you open up an Azrael book, and find out Jean Paul Valley died a long time ago, and someone else is now Azrael. That's where I stand. I know little to nothing about this new Azrael or what's going on in this book currently.   Good I've always been fond of Fabian Nicieza's writing, and if it weren't for him, I wouldn't have made it all the way through this book. I had no clue what was going on in this book, but the writing was solid and kept me intereste...

Review: Hulked Out Heroes #1 0

I've been thinking a lot about Hulk recently. So I decided to check this newest kinda-Hulk book out. A spin-off of the World War Hulks books, a few Marvel heroes find themselves pumped up with gamma radiation, all "Hulked out." This book is less about being "Hulked out" and much more about Deadpool being wacky. So, again, another Deadpool book. Don't we have enough already?   Good I'm sick of Deadpool. He's everywhere. How dare they call a Deadpool book a Hulk book. Why is this in the good se...

Review: Green Arrow #32 2

I haven't read Green Arrow in a few years, not since he was mayor, but I felt the need to take it upon myself to catch up. I read the Cry for Justice stuff, and all the following books for Green Arrow, up until now, just to do this review. I'm dedicated, but only this one time. This is a banner year for Green Arrow. Out of any character in DC history, he's had the most bad stuff dumped on him in the past 3-6 months, yet he continues on.  The Good  Where do I start? J.T. Krul's writing has been s...

Review: Siege Loki 0

Siege is the current Marvel event about the fall and siege of Asgard. This one-shot issue takes the reader a little deeper into how everything came into play. So far, I haven't been that impressed with Siege, although I think the idea for the story is great. It's nice to see Loki have his own one-shot in this. He's a truly under-rated villain, and if you didn't know, he was the very first Avengers villain... and he's tricky and whatnot. The Good I loved how this story plays out. A plan coming to...

Review: Iron Man Noir #1 0

Seems like every Marvel character is getting a Noir book, even Luke Cage had one. Tony "Iron Man" Stark is the newest Marvel character to get his own Noir book, and although I tend to go into these Noir books extremely skeptical, I love to say I was pleasantly surprised.  The Good I love a good adventure book, and that's exactly what this was: Indiana Stark. This book had everything that the 10 year old in me loves: Treasure, danger, adventure, Nazis (I don't love Nazis, but I love them los...

Review: Doc Savage #1 1

Pulp icon Doc Savage returns with his own series right out of the recent pages of First Wave. Many may not know who exactly Doc Savage is, but this could be the place to start, especially because this book has one thing that many books are lacking now-a-days, blimps.  The Good  They don't call him "The Man of Bronze" because he has some sort of metallic like skin. Doc Savage is an incredibly smart and insanely rich man with no super-powers. He's like me or you, with a tan and a better haircut...

Review: Batman #698 1

There are plenty of on-going Batman books going on right now, and this main title seems to get lost in the shuffle. Tony Daniel starts a new arc here, writing, as an old Batman foe returns to best the Dark Knight. Daniel's last story I felt was sub-par, up until that very last issue when he revealed who the new Black Mask was. Tony Daniel is known for his art, but in this second story, he seems to be filling in as a writer much better. This new story gets back into something I've always been a f...

Review: Wolverine Weapon X #12 0

Wolverine Weapon X #12 Sometimes it's hard to pick up a Wolverine book. The character has seemingly been over saturating the Marvel market for years, and yet a few of his stories are the best Marvel has ever put out. Wolverine: Weapon X is an off-shoot of the current Wolverine on-going series, which his son Daken took over last year, and this book is a little more adult and violent than normal. The Good First thing is first, I'd like to say that the first page in every Marvel book exp...

Not what you think it is. 1

Every time I see a book with "Secret Files" in the title, or something like that, I pass on it. However, since Barry Allen has been gone 20 years and just recently returned, many newer Flash fans may not know who Barry Allen is. This book is more than just a fact file, there is actually a story within the pages.  The Good The first 18 pages are the actual story. I love the reintroduction of Barry and who he is, and his new connection to the Flash Family. I may be a little bit of a fanboy...

The ex-sorcerer supreme can't even tell a book is booby trapped? Fail. When I saw the list of books this week that I could review, I needed something I've never heard of. So, I closed my eyes and randomly picked a comic from the list. The winner was Spider-Man Fever, and I was the loser.    The Good It's hard to figure out what I like about this book. Why Is An Image Of Beyonder Stuck In My Head? 2

The past couple of years, well, since right around Secret Invasion, we've been hit over the head, again and again, with Deadpool. I went into this book with low expectations. I wasn't sure if I needed to read the Prelude to Deadpool Corps to understand this, and I didn't know how many pages I'd get through before becoming annoyed. This issue featured two stories: One featuring the Deadpool Corps, and the other story featured Deadpool at a shrink. The Good I'll admit it. I like Rob Liefeld's a...
