MARVEL Titles in Review - 27/01/16

Dead No More. See what I did there? Since I appeared dead for a day or so.. hah. No? Okay.

Spoilers duh.

Old Man Logan #1

No Caption Provided

Oh snap readers. This was some wicked awesome stuff. The only real problem with this run is that the content that it starts with is limited BUT it's frickin' awesome. Straight up, that one splash with Logan remembering everything, had it not been for the fact that I knew I was reading this comic , I would've for sure guessed I was reading an issue of Lemire's run on Green Arrow. He looked exactly like Ollie there which is accredited to the fact that it's the same writer and artists. Great creative team! This issue deals with Old Man Logan having travelled back in time (he thinks) and he decides to hunt the people that are going to ruin his life and kill all the super heroes in his future. We know from Extraordinary X-Men that he realizes this isn't his universe eventually but let's just bask in this while it lasts. There was flashback à la Obi-Wan and Anakin with him and his son. Overall, really really enjoyed this.

5/5 whiskers with peach juice pls.

All-New Inhumans #3

No Caption Provided

So very conflicted about this comic. I now know that one guys name is Flint. So you know that's Flint, Gorgon and Crystal. I now know what power 3 of the inhumans have. Is it just me or are they doing a fairly poor job of actually showing us any of this? I know it's only been 3 issues but I'm having problems enjoying a fairly decent issue of this title because I'm bothered by the fact that I have don't know half their names or most of their powers. I could obviously just research it but what'd be the fun in that? Anyway so the all-new inhumans attack a secret base, somehow sin-cong manages to capture Crystal and Flint and all the while miss emotional-reader/manipulator finds out who sent them all the dream from last issue and what said persons new goal is (psst he's totally evil, even has the evil smile and black eyes).

2/5 halloween-punch with evil eyes. I'm sure I'd enjoy this so much more if I knew about these characters, but I don't.

Venom: Space Knight #3

No Caption Provided

First of all, 803 is the funniest, greatest little fellar to appear anywhere ever. Why? Suicidal robots are hilarious. period. Here's a quote "In the event of your inevitable demise, may I have your permission to fly the ship into the nearest star?". Now with the hilarious 803 out of the way let's actually talk about what happened. Some bad guy lured Flash to some place by erupting a volcano. No big deal, happens all the time. He saves the planet and then leaves for his next destination, we discover he's being followed. Also 803 made Flash new robotic legs (isn't that cute, isn't he the cutest?) and the Klyntar is... flying the ship?! And wants to talk?! I'm guessing next issue is going to be a fun one. Pleasure planet, big bad monster, klyntar discussion stuff, 803 quoting. Can't wait.

4/5 not enough 803.

Spider-Woman #3

No Caption Provided

Henceforth I will refer to this issue as "Pregnant-Woman-Parkour-and-Die-Hard-Action". Think that's perfectly fitting, don't you? This right here was a pretty fun read. Spider-Woman goes to fetch a scientists head in a jar, parkours here way back through something you'd only think to see in a Doctor Strange comics, only to discover it was all in vain. Then she hears from Cap that the skrulls are there to kidnap a little skrull prince, she goes to get him as well only just as she's going to go all gung-ho on the mini-skrull army HER WATER BREAKS! Yeah, it's pretty intense all of this.

I have to say, I wasn't even originally going to read this title. I was very hesitant to and the only reason I did is because there's a crossover event with spidey-chicks titles coming soon and I'm reading Silk. So happy I did. Really really enjoying Jessica Drew's pregnant adventures.

4/5 granola bars with skrull saliva. Nom Nom.

Daredevil #3

No Caption Provided

There wasn't a whole lot that happened this issue actually but it didn't stop it from being a great one by itself in the scheme of things. There was some fighting with The Hand, Blindspot and DD talked, Matt Murdoch got bumped down to midnight shift due to what happened at court last issue and we got another hint to what this whole "new beginning" might've meant but not much. I really did enjoy this though. Linda Carter AKA Nightnurse was mentioned as Blindspot was injured in the fight with the Hand which was cool. Matt is looking brilliant as ever rocking the red/black even when he's dressed in a suit and the ending with Tenfingers visiting Matt in his "office" (elevator) to somehow convince him, it seems, that he's not a villain was a really interesting note to end the issue with.

Another 4/5 phone-less amish, because we're on a 4-rating streak here. Good setup issue!

X-Men: Worst X-Man Ever #4

No Caption Provided

The penultimate issue. OMG was this good. Golden jerk-o wasn't just another jerk but the guy who killed Professor X! This is what I love about mini-series that aren't constricted to the established and connected universe, they can just go out and do stuff like this! Hilarious, serious and even somewhat disturbing of an issue. Seeing him choke while Bailey was talking and then that last page. That was some gruel stuff. Really good stuff. What I'm looking forward to see next time around is what Bailey's going to do with this. I don't know what else to write, ya'll will have to go out and read this by yourself! It's worth it and only 5 issues after-all. Sadly.

5/5 Mutant School Baseball Sundays. I wish I went to a Hogwarts like school too.

The Unbeatable Squirrel Girl #4

No Caption Provided

Past Doctor Doom vs Squirrels. "The Great Doom of China", "The Statue of DOOMberty", these are some of the things we'd have if Planet Doom became a reality. Sounds wicked awesome right?

Aw nuts, this issue was actually pretty nuts and dialogue filled. The sections with Doom and his third person monologuing was really quite entertaining. I didn't really like that Squirrel Girl tried to convince Doom to not take over the world, you'd think she'd know better as a "avenger" and super hero alike but it made for some fun stuff. I liked the ending, it was pretty neat. Can't even begin to imagine what kind of a conversation old Squirrel Girl and young SG would have but I'm sure it'll be really funny.

Like I said, a little too much talking at times but the jokes behind the ideas of how to stop Doctor Doom and all that were pretty darned hilarious.

3/5 nuts.

All-New, All-Different Avengers #4

No Caption Provided

I really liked how that kiss was worked into it all. It wasn't a romantic gesture or the start of a WW/Superman thing, no it was a dying woman living life to her urges. I quite liked how that bothered Tony too. The threat this time around was a joke, but most things are when Vision's on your team and the Dynasty or whatever paying Cyclone to level casinos doesn't much make sense yet. They're like a chinese villain avengers team right that appeared in Iron Man comics? I'm not completely mistaken here?

I'm really interested in one thing, and this thought was triggered when they talked about that whole "when are the real ones coming back", will this be the Avengers title where inevitably the old team assembles or will another Avengers title spawn from that? I mean with Steve Rogers return, Thor being hinted at in the covers of Mighty Thor and Bruce Banner's story being told in Totally Awesome Hulk it seems like it's only a matter of time. 4/5 Jarvis is bald, wait.

Carnage #4

No Caption Provided

Hmm, I was convinced I'd find a reason to drop this title this read since well the first 3 issues sucked but this actually had the opposite effect on me. It wasn't all that bad. Although it still feels like Carnage isn't even the main character in his own damn title, I'm really interested to see what happens next. Will Toxin take Carnage down? What powers did that book give Carnage? Where will he go from here?

It's still not the best title out there and I probably won't look forward to reading the next issue but hey at least it's not Scarlet Witch (oh snap).

Extraordinary X-Men #6

No Caption Provided

Grampah Logan and a fastball special. I think I can die a happy man now!

So the X-Men have ventured into Weirdworld in a search and rescue mission for a group of mutants that disappeared. Interesting, interesting. They're being lead by Sunfire. All the while Ice Man comes out as gay to Anole even though everyone knows, this is a big step nonetheless. Also let me point out that Ice Man's quips concerning Logan's age are hilarious. Magik is still <3 and Jean is about to go with Storm into Nightcrawler's mind to see if they can fix whatever damage has been done to him. Which is what I think next issue will focus on and I have to say I can't wait to read it.

I'm also super excited for the first event of "all-new, all-different" with the X-Men titles that'll focus on Apocalypse.

5/5.

I'm not sure if I should continue rating the issues necessarily. I didn't do it for the DC titles last week and so I might stop. Still finding my way with these reviews. Now I gotta go binge read to catch up for the next batch of comics hitting shelves tomorrow.

DC Titles in Review - 27/01/16

Suicide Squad Most Wanted: Deadshot/Katana #1

No Caption Provided

A very interesting first issue. This issue starts of with Deadshot on a mission, he does his thing and then gets assigned to team-up with a newbie but all he really wants is to go see his dad, before he dies, to kill him himself..? On the other half of the issue we see Katana on a little adventure herself outside the states where she meets the Kobras (same people as in the Red Hood/Arsenal sneak peek a year ago, I assume).

Wasn't the best #1 I've ever read but it was quite entertaining all-in-all. I particularly liked how we got to delve deeper into Floyd's psyche. I much preferred his side of the story to be honest and I have no idea how Katana's going to end up with a bomb in her neck! Since she is in the JLA (according to her own words) right now, I can only assume they're taking her character in this direction due to the blockbuster.

This issue was a really solid start to this mini-series and I hope we see more of these Suicide Squad Most Wanted stuff in the future!

Superman: Lois and Clark #4

No Caption Provided

Oh man, I'm absolutely in love with this title. I love OG supes, I love his new outfit (which they show how he got in the first couple of pages here) and Lois Lane here is just such a delight. Just seeing Clark and Lois having a walk on their anniversary, talking and almost bumping into familiar people was some of the most pleasant to read, moment I've had in a while. Things are heating up with Interpol on the Lois front and Superman is engaged in a "epic" fight with Blanque. I, personally, am way more intrigued by Lois v. Interpol and Jon perhaps finding out that his dad is Superman! It's all very exciting and you can tell that the writers know this is the time to speed up and get the ball rolling, so to speak.

Like I said, probably one of my favorite reads out of the on-goings on the DC front for sure. Hopefully with Rebirth, Clark and Lois here get their own title.

Justice League of America #7

No Caption Provided

Damn son, I'm surprised Rao didn't just fall over and surrender after everything Superman said to him. That man just laid it down hard with logic. This title is really interesting, what bothers me is that it's either pre-convergence or after whatever's going on now. Although if it's after I'll be really disappointed because that means literally nothing changed and we do know aside from Wonder Woman, every other character has undergone massive changes in one way or another. So Batman is planning a distraction for Rao, Hal Jordan met this time's Rao whilst accompanying a 300 year old Rao (which was slightly confusing) and Aquaman/Wonder Woman are arming themselves with awesome pantheon weaponry to take back their world. I'm loving the direction and it's pretty clear with story line is going to take a long time to get through and it's just going to be massive. Nonetheless, super enjoyable!

Black Canary #7

No Caption Provided

I really want to know who the white clad ninja is! However I'm fairly sure it's Dinah. Ditto is awesome, she's like the silent version of Maps (from Gotham Academy)! I just love the way she dresses in previous issues, it's pretty awesome. This issue wasn't anything special really, I think it's really funny how they managed to make the "big bad" all about music to fit the theme but it's all a little too convenient. It's also really cute that Dinah stands by her husband even though he looks to be 80-90, which shows just what kind of waifu material she is. I'm interested to see where they go from here because it seems pretty clear that the future is about reinventing what this title is all about (at least it looks that way to me). I'm all for Black Canary having her own thing so I'm excited for it. Just as long as they keep Dinah away from Green Arrow, I'm all good!

Cyborg #7

No Caption Provided

In the aftermath of the Technosapien attack, the government is looking for a patsy, someone to blame. So the government wanders into STAR labs and start making demands, one of them being for Victor. According to them, they own him. On another front Vic met his deceased mother. Which makes for an interesting little conversation catalyst. He still hasn't talked to Sara about their whole romance thing and if I know comics, he'll probably be too distracted to do so for a while.

I'm not the biggest fan of this title. Vic's new look is great and that whole "tank top" like style is reminiscent of the goo' ol' days but the lack of rogues and any sort of plot device outside the cybernetic is really evident just from these first couple of issues. I'm interested to see where they take his character and if they manage to make it more like Midnighter in that regard but that's something that'll we'll just have to wait and see with.

We Are Robin #8

No Caption Provided

Anyone else spot the picture of Batman Beyond Joker on Johnny's wall? Love that guy, which spoiler alert: proves to be Tim Drake in the movie!

Jokerz.. *Jokers are coming! This right here was some dark stuff.. and I loved it! It's only reasonable if one side of Batman gets a gang following, the other one should too. What a perfect villain for the Robins, their very own mini-jokers. I'm pretty hyped for this. Anyway this story follows what looks to be the future leader of the Jokers aka Johnny aka Smiley. He gets back from juve, takes some shit from his parents, puts makeup on to resemble Joker and goes downstairs to kill his parents. All the while that's happening Duke is searching for his parents and Alfred is stopping by all the other Robins to check in on them.

Duke finds his parents, which was alluded to in Batman #48 but from what they showed there I assumed they'd be dead. This was a worse fate. Love the grit of this title. Love it.

Omega Men #8

No Caption Provided

Wow. Look I usually don't care for elseworld, or any comic book that deals with things I'm not all too familiar with which happens to be exactly what the Omega Men are BUT I started reading this because of the praise and the fact that Kyle Rayner is here and I certainly do not regret it, not after issues like this. This issues showed us so much and it perfectly captured a kids wonder of the world, the tragedy of genocide, sympathy and emotional outbursts. In 20 pages! Can one ask for much more?

The only problem I have with Omega Men in general is how easily Kyle just threw Carol away and after just like a week with Kalista he's all like "I love you so much". Shut up Kyle. Carol's probably home worrying about you, thinking you're dead while you're in space (not having the time of your life) not giving a shit about her. It feels extremely out of character and a disservice to all the buildup spent between the two. That's about the only complaint and it gets overshadowed so quickly by the brilliance of this title.

Deathstroke #14

No Caption Provided

Deathstroke v Lexcorp. Good issue. Nothing super impressive or out of this world. Seeing Deathstroke facing off against Bizarro's next month should be really entertaining though! Rose is still held hostage by funky guy in hat, Deathstroke is still doing his best impression of Liam Neeson and all is right in the world. I have to say that I miss grey haired Slade, but I'm not against his new costume. The thing is badass, ALTHOUGH I wish they'd use some Judas' inspiration and add a touch of blue to it. The Wonder Woman/Nightwing-esque emblem in the front takes a little getting used to but we all know the practical application, from Batman or the Punisher if you're solely a Marvel guy/gal, with having a target on your chest.

I'm not too excited about where this title is headed but I see Deathtroke kind of like "Spidey" in that it's a fun, calm read at the end of a long day or something like that. Really enjoyable, would recommend.

Grayson #16

No Caption Provided

Here comes a big one. Probably my most anticipated this week, up there with Superman: Lois and Clark. Kicking it right off with a reference to "A Spy Who Loved Me" on the front cover, and then continues to feel like a comic straight out of James Bond. I mean Grayson is at his peak when it comes to quips here. Nothing quite like it, I probably chuckled 3 times just reading this. Him making up his own Bond-theme alone, with Tony the Tiger interrupting was just utterly hilarious. The one problem I had with this issue had nothing to do with the content of it because that was really entertaining, interesting and overall just good but rather with what wasn't addressed. Like the fact that Dick Grayson is now a member of the Court of Owls?! You'd think that might've.. you know, impact something. Anything.

Whatever. It doesn't take away from how awesome this issue was, if only for spot on humor!

Teen Titans #16

No Caption Provided

Urgh, Teen Titans. Talk about a consistently mediocre comic right here. How is it that they manage to assemble such an uninspiring line-up of Titans? And make the most dull stories possible, with said lineup. Now they're taking them to Pennsylvania where they'll be facing a bunch of nobodies too. Yeah, no. Rebirth couldn't come any sooner for a title like this. I mean in just like 3 issues we've already lost 3 team members? Kid Flash just leaves. Chimera goes with the bad guys, and so does Superboy. I don't know, I don't much like Teen Titans at the moment. They haven't really found themselves and they keep trying to lay down a foundation over the other. It gets kind of annoying. This is what.. the fourth hq in just 40 issues or so? Jeez Titans, get a grip.

Batman and Robin Eternal #17

No Caption Provided

Of course Batman didn't kill anyone! Did anyone here reading this get fooled? I'm generally curious.

We get to see what really happened with Batman and Mother in Cairo, Grayson and Helena interrogation (rather trying to) Orphan and Harper Row breaking into their headquarters to confront Cassandra's dad.. and yell at him? People should know better than to entertain psychopaths. Honestly, they probably prefer having that as entertainment than nothing happening at all.

Also, Harper might be the Robin that Mother made for Batman. That's pretty interesting. I thought for sure it was Jason but from what we saw in Red Hood and the Outlaws, the death of his mom was Joker's fault... or something. Honestly that entire title is a blur at this point. With Eternal wrapping up soon, I'm really interested to see what this'll do to change the batfamily and hopefully it goes out as it's been going on, excellently.

Superman #48

No Caption Provided

Kryptonite as chemotherapy. It's actually not that bad of an idea if you think about it. I also like how it gives Trevor the opportunity to tell Clark what a major idiot he is for ending things with WW. Don't get me wrong I know not everyone likes their relationship but I've been all for it since it started. Even more so now with Clark and Lois' pre-flashpoint versions on Earth. So if it's a near death experience that'll screw Superman's head on straight again, hopefully it works. Also what do you guys think about this "Smallville" like Clark? It's been going on for nearly 40 issues over Action Comics, Superman, Batman/Superman and Superman/Wonder Woman respectively and I personally find it quite refreshing. I mean I really want old supes back too but I don't really miss the fiascos like Psy-War, Doomed and all that. Personally I think although this isn't all that great of an event, it's better than most of what came before it. What I hope they learn from this when bringing back OG is to make good arcs.

Aquaman #48

No Caption Provided

Wrapping up this week and this story arc that spanned 48 issues comes a decent addition to this weeks releases. Arthur has a wicked cool new outfit and weapon but I have a feeling both of those will be disappearing soon *sadface*, Mera and Arthur reunited was just perfect (<3). I seriously love that couple which is why when this all started I was really confused and irritated. I couldn't believe Mera would do that to Arthur under any circumstance and I was so happy to learn that it really wasn't her after all. I feel like although this was meant to change a lot the only thing that really changed was that Arthur now has a whole lot more people to populate Atlantis or wherever they'll be at. We'll just have to see what happens next month but hopefully they let him keep this more "warrior" outfit a while longer since it does look a little like the movie outfit and we all know that the comics love to cater to the upcoming movie stuff *cough* Harley Quinn/Deadpool everywhere *cough*

Marvel is coming out a little later tonight. I'm happy to be able to do DC now as well but it does give me more to read which is why instead of posting these immediately on Wednesday it might take an extra day or two.

Some Awesome Covers #1

This is me picking a couple of covers I found really really appealing over the course of this month or so. Just listing away. It can be either Marvel or DC but nothing else. Reason being I don't have too much exposure away from those two.

Not a lot of Marvel this time around but I'll rectify that next week! My "Titles in Review" for this weeks Marvel and DC titles released on Wednesday will be out tonight. I'm catching up on JLA right now and once I'm done with #6 for that I'm going to read all of this weeks comics and write the "reviews". Then I'll do the Marvel ones and hopefully I'll managed to get it all down before the day is over as I'd like to be awake in good time to celebrate my birthday tomorrow. Until then.

MARVEL Titles in Review - 20/01/16

Captain Marvel #1

No Caption Provided

You know, I've never read a single Captain Marvel comic prior to this. Hell, I've never really been into Marvel before so there's your reason. However now that I'm totally up to date on everything and I'm reading more Marvel comics than I bare to tell ya'll, I have to say that this was a really solid first issue. Especially considering the writers had never written a comic before this (they came off Agent Carter as a matter of fact) so that's really cool! It was a good introduction to our female protagonist although if you read the first issue of A-Force and you've been keeping up with The Ultimates (which you should) you've already seen her around. To summarize, Cap is now the leader of Alpha Flight, she doesn't want to sit behind a desk and happily punches meteors. Also there's a mystery, a personal one. Now go read it if you haven't!

4/5 dry pancakes with lush 'merican syrup.

Silver Surfer #1

No Caption Provided

Silver Surfer was a.. fun, first issue. I don't really have much to say since my only exposure came from Fantastic Four 2, and well that means what I'm reading here is something completely different, thankfully. I enjoyed this first issue! It had good humor, I loved Dawn's family and Surfer can change into a human by shedding his silver (didn't know that). The only thing that might keep me from reading past #5 or whatever is probably the direction of the story and/or Silver Surfer himself. I've never seen him as an interesting character, nor am I compelled to keep reading this. I'll continue reading it, I usually give all comics at least 5-10 issues to change my mind, but I'm not all too excited like with many other Marvel titles currently out and about.

It was a solid 3/5 nutmeg muffins! (not sure that's an actual thing, if it is hit me up with the recipe)

Amazing Spider-Man & Silk: Spider(fly) Effect #1

No Caption Provided

Not technically this week but I didn't get it until this week so I'll cover it here + I'd like to cover as many #1's as possible.

This comic here will be showing us what happened in between Spidey's and Silk's fake fight and that of which transpired in the latest issue of Silk so I was of course immediately interested because this here is a cool duo. I recently read Grayson: Futures End and something about the style this comic was written in felt familiar. In Grayson the entire thing is written backwards, daring you the entire time to read it again the opposite way and although that's not the case here we do get to see two sides to the same story. I don't know how it works yet (might be the spiderfly effect is one side and the "real" event is the other but it's interesting nonetheless. Really enjoyed it and the humor was spot on!

4/5 biscuits with gravy, because I don't give out a lot of 5's.

Uncanny X-Men #2

No Caption Provided

Hellspont is here!

So Mystique is being set up as some sort of.. thief? eco-terrorist? Honestly I didn't really pick-up what her mission was and there was just about 5 pages of her in here and they didn't do much else than portray her as a badass working for some organization, infiltrating some other organization. On the side of our Uncanny X-Men however we see Detective Magnus figure out that someone's executing healer mutants and Archangel/Warren is somehow appearing in Psylock's head (interesting).

I can definitely see the seeds being planted for Monet + Sabretooth. Don't really have an opinion on the matter though. Bring it on I suppose.

3/5 Coca Cola's with tiny umbrellas.

The Uncanny Inhumans #4

No Caption Provided

I'm actually really enjoying this title, as opposed to All-New Inhumans. It's not that All-New isn't good it's just extremely hard to remember anyone in that comic. I seriously off the top of my head can't think of a single name related to it and that's a bad thing. This comic has done a good job of portraying the powers of Reader and Black Bolt to new readers but Medusa and Iso aren't really touched upon except in some issue a couple weeks back there was a short explanation I think. I love the fact that Torch and Beast are involved in this, gives a sort of "outsider" perspective at things. The first arc has also been really interesting, dealing with Medusa and Black Bolt's son, Kang the conqueror and showing us the dawn of Inhumans through time travel. All really cool stuff since it's not all this terrigen political bs we get everywhere else, so I approve!

4/5 corn dogs wrapped in terrigen goo.

Patsy Walker AKA Hellcat #2

No Caption Provided

I didn't really have an opinion on the first issue. Thought it was charming but not really all that interesting. However, I now have a comic-crush on Patsy. The art is still as charming as ever and it has this quirky feel about it, sort of like Batgirl but more extreme. It's really lightweight and I absolutely love that Patsy seems to know every female heroine out there! This issue also set up what villainy Patsy will encounter soon enough, what her personal life issues are where touched upon more and I'm really enjoying it. It's kind of like Star-Lord and Spidey in that you can just pick this up and read it to relax and get away from all the continuity hazzle and dazzle. With the first Marvel event since Secret Wars "Standoff" starting soon, a comic like this is much needed to keep your brain from dripping out your ears!

5/5 entertaining slices of cheese right here!

X-Men: The Worst X-Man Ever #3

No Caption Provided

The mini series of 2016 that's had me the most entertained yet! This issue however was nothing special, in comparison to the previous 2. It was still fun, just not as fun as I had hoped. Basically Bailey went to a fair and found a mutant with the power to simply make something "never exist" and exist again with sheer willpower. Incredible right? The potential for funny is limitless with this, but nothing really came of it and that's where I feel this issue stumbled a little. But with Bailey now torn between the Brotherhood and the X-Men I'm sure the last issues are going to be something of a ride. I'm anxious to see where we go from here and although this issue was unmemorable to me, it was nevertheless an entertaining read!

3/5 scones with raspberry jam. I guess.

Ms. Marvel #3

No Caption Provided

Putting aside that subtle Dark Knight (Nolan movie) quote/tease, this was the conclusive issue to the very first arc of volume 4 and it was decent. Look, I'm not the biggest Ms. Marvel fan but I have to give this comic some props for being one of the most down to earth comics. It's like reading about what oneself might imagine about being a superhero whilst walking home with groceries. It's super light-hearted and pulling that off whilst dealing with HYDRA and Faustus is pretty impressive. I'm really glad I decided to pick this up as I'd heard the last volume was awesome! This issue deals with a bunch of people being mind controlled in the efforts to take over all of Jersey City, and ends with a cookie dough slumber party that we aren't even invited to! Blasphemy.

4/5 Cookie dough slumber parties that everyones invited to.

Drax #3

No Caption Provided

Drax the Terrible Detective. I mean this comic is just too hilarious right now. Drax is so stupid and primitive, it's hilarious. (Hey Duggan! Here's how you do humor, you use your character properly!) Sorry, I can't help myself. So Drax is stranded on a moon because Rocket Raccoon gave him a piece of junk ship to use on his quest to kill Thanos and avenge his family. He's trying to get the local bartender to repair this ship of his but locals are disappearing right under his nose (hah get it.. if you've read the issue that is) and like the amazing detective Drax is he of course figures it out eventually only to come face to face with his new foe! Seriously this here is a delight to read. "Drax" doesn't take itself seriously, it's funny, it's easy on the eyes and I absolutely love it. Don't cancel this one prematurely Marvel, I plead to thee.

5/5 kittens riding on chihuahua's. That's not a meal is it?

Star-Lord #3

No Caption Provided

I've probably mentioned it one too many times but I'm really enjoying Star-Lord. Although it is a Year One story, I feel that it's perfect for the time. Peter is a character with newfound fame from the recent movie, it's only reasonable they'd want you to explore his background and the relationship he has with Yondu. Much like with other comics that aren't necessarily fixed on following the main thread of ANAD, this is more of a comic you can read at any time and just sit back and enjoy. I mean who here read Batman: Year One as their first comic? Probably someone now that I think about it.. In either case, this is a great jumping on point and it's bound to make it less confusing when all the sudden you're thrown into Peter's life as portrayed in the current run of Guardians of the Galaxy (which is great btw)

10/10 alien beers!

The Astonishing Ant-Man #4

No Caption Provided

"I'm a superhero, you know"

"Yeah, sure you are.."

How funny isn't Ant-Man? It's not just really probably the most breezy title out there right now but it deals with Scott Lang trying to be as close of a distant parent as possible..? It makes sense if you read the issue! So yet again Ant-Man runs into trouble as he and Beetle hook up and a basketball game he's hired to protect is hit up by a villain called "The Voice", because he can like control people by talking. He's like a fat and uncool version of Purple Man basically. I haven't really touched upon the art until now but for being really undetailed with faces, it's actually really appealing to the eyes. I'm not sure what it is about it but I love it! And that cover looks pretty darn rad too. Huh, just realized that I haven't really seen a mindblowingly good comic cover on the Marvel front this week. Peculiar.

5/5 pleasant beef jerky surprise.

New Avengers #5

No Caption Provided

In a uncertain future, Billy's been possessed by Moridun (an entity they defeated last issue) and so the Avengers of this time decide to travel back in time to save Wiccan.. I mean Demiurge, from this terrible fate and in the process spare themselves of the heartache he causes as consequence. Meanwhile in the present, Billy seems to be losing control. Interesting premise don't you think? This was a pretty good issue actually. The only problem I have with New Avengers is the team. I don't really like anyone on it except for Hawkeye and Squirrel Girl, which becomes a problem because it means I'm generally detached from that of which is classified as "dangerous". It's kind of like how Thunderbolts pre-secret wars had one of my all time favorite lineups (like ever) and the one coming now seems to consist of only people I've never heard of! (unconfirmed, speculated lineup) It's worrying but I'll be reading it nonetheless.

3/5 Pizzas with enchiladas on the side.

Deadpool #6

No Caption Provided

Hey look, another week rolls around and another shitty Deadpool comic! Yippie. I don't know what it is about Duggan's run that bothers me more.. the fact that it's not funny at all, or the fact that it feels like I'm reading about everyone but Deadpool in each and every issue. Let me lay it out for you. Deadpool has a gang, oh right it's 2099 too because why not, they call themselves Harleys gang.. oh wait that's wrong. Anyway something something, someone wants female-daughter-future-deadpool dead, she's holding Wade Wilson as a prisoner to find her mother, nothing she does or says is funny and there you have it. I'm overly negative when it comes to Deadpool because I literally find nothing Duggan writes to be entertaining or funny. Ever. Although last issue of Uncanny Avengers was decent. I'll never again admit to that though.

1/5 fungus filled chocolate balls! This has basically been the score for all 6 issues of Deadpool. I'm so saddened by how much I don't enjoy this.

Catching up is tough (rant and listing)

I have to say, I'll never allow myself to lose track of my comic reading again. It's truly a pain to see all you've missed and have to read it all back up. Since December (when I decided to start reading comics again) I've read 93 issues of Walking Dead, easily 100s' of issues DC, all of Marvel NOW! (except Hawkeye and Punisher vol. 9, since I'd already read those while they were on-going), all the Star Wars continuity comics and all Buffy/Angel related stuff which was (Buffy Season 9 and now 10, Angel & Faith season 9 and now 10). With DC I'm still catching up. I've hit the #40 mark with all on-going titles that have gone that far, and I'm just coming off convergence ready to read all the titles that spawned in it's aftermath (which are quite a lot).

No Caption Provided

Note to self: don't stop reading comic books.

So like I've listed I'm reading quite a lot. I'm currently at #93 of Walking Dead (still have another... 57 to go to catch up), caught up with Darth Vader and Star Wars, reading Obi-Wan and Anaking, caught up with Angel & Faith Season 10, caught up with Buffy the Vampire Slayer Season 10, reading the Marvel titles: Amazing Spider-Man, Deadpool, Invincible Iron Man, Extraordinary X-Men, All-New X-Men, Uncanny X-Men, Uncanny Inhumans, All-New Inhumans, All-New Wolverine, Captain America: Sam Wilson, New Avengers, All-New All-Different Avengers, Doctor Strange, Guardians of the Galaxy, Rocket Raccoon and Groot, Star-Lord, A-Force, Totally Awesome Hulk, Ultimates, Uncanny Avengers, Carnage, Astonishing Ant-Man, All-New Hawkeye, Mighty Thor, Silk, Drax, Daredevil, Spidey, Scarlet Witch

No Caption Provided

(probably not after next week), Patsy Walker AKA Hellcat, Karnak, Agents of SHIELD, Spider-Man/Deadpool, Venom: Space Knight, Ms. Marvel, Hercules, Vision, Unbeatable Squirrel Girl, Howard the Duck, Spider-Woman and X-Men: Worst X-Man Ever.

As for DC I'm reading/have read every single title up until Convergence which I just finished so I'm about to hit #41 on all the on-goings and exceptions being like Sinestro that's just at #12, or Grayson/Gotham Academy/Teen Titans etc, that don't have that many issues yet.

This I've managed to do in.. a little more than a month. Feels like a relief to finally be so close to having caught up. Oh yes and of course I'm also reading Superman: American Alien, Batman: Europa and Dark Knight III: The Master Race.

I wish you guys could see what the inside of my wallet looks like, wait.. what wallet?

Best thing about Gotham Academy

The art. Not just how charming it is and "lite" but also what it clearly drew inspiration from with Killer Croc in particular gives it a touch of nostalgia.

No Caption Provided

This version of Killer Croc (to my knowledge) hasn't had a tribute in the comics as of yet. Do tell me if I'm wrong but I was just so happy to see Croc in Gotham Academy drawn with this incarnation in mind! It's just such a neat thing. I'm sure you can tell the similarities.

No Caption Provided

Usually in these bat books he's depicted as green as opposed to grey. In Batwoman he was more of a crocodile shape and in some he resembles the creature that Jim Lee first drew in Hush, or as I refer to it as "the Jim Lee Croc". This Croc on the other hand, unlike what the Animated Series tried to do, feels less threatening and when Bats was beating on him I was actually cheering for Croc to get out of it. Even in Eternal, which this is closely related to due to the Arkham incident, he looked far more intimidating and larger in proportion. I love what the artists did with him and the art in Gotham Academy is by far it's greatest feature. I do so love the style of writing as well of course. Speaking of, I'm off to continue reading it. Until next time.

Let's Talk About Detective Comics "Anarky"

So I just wrapped up #40 (as I'm clearing up all the DC comics I haven't caught up on yet) and I have to say.. This is how Detective Comics should be written and drawn. Batman working side by side with the law, focus on Bruce and Alfred spending quality time and Batman doing solid detective work which seems to have only been present in the "Batman" title before now. The most important aspect, to me, and one I think they did well was Bruce and Alfred just hanging out and talking. Those 3 or so pages of Bruce and Alfred walking Titus (almost wrote Ace again) was everything I wanted to see in this title. I've always thought that it's important for Detective Comics to step back sometimes and just show us Bruce Wayne being Bruce Wayne. So kudos to the Buccellato and Manapaul for managing to write a great story!

No Caption Provided

As good as I thought this was I was actually pretty disappointed with the conclusion. That isn't to say it wasn't good but it wasn't what I'd hoped it to be either. Who Anarky was wasn't hard to figure out from the moment we first saw him, I mean any new reader could deduce it in a matter of 3 bubbles or whatever. His motives for donning the mask and the name Anarky felt like a major cop out because now after being caught there's literally no reason for him to return to the costume and name which = no more Anarky and I don't really like that. Also, are you going to tell me that this is why Anarky exists? Who then was Anarky in Green Lantern Corps #25 (the Zero Year issue)?! It doesn't really make sense now does it. Or maybe it does and I'm just lost.

All in all I loved reading this. Things fell into place a little too conveniently at the final issue but the starting- and middle issues were great! More of this when Bruce comes back please.

Batman: Eternal's Best Comic Covers

Here are some of the mesmerizing ones, at least for me, from Eternal.

I'll be doing this for every single DC title that hit's #50 in March, as well as any event that takes place as it's own comic (like I have with Eternal now and Futures End just prior). I don't know why but I feel like plastering my favorite cover arts all over. Fun times.

Futures End's Best Comic Covers

More often than not I end up sitting there for 10 minutes or so just gazing at the cover art of whatever issue. I usually think it's the color scheme that hooks me, enthralls me but sometimes I really don't know. Some of these issues had that THING. That thing about them that just kept me looking. I really don't know what it is but I'll be listing the issues below. Hopefully someone can understand what it is I'm talking about!

Yeah, that was 6 covers out of 48 that I actually thought looked great! Sad when you think about it. I've been meaning to post more stuff using covers (love me cover art) but prior to this I had no clue how to upload pictures properly which I do now so my blog will evidently now be covered in e'm.

MARVEL Titles in Review - 14/01/16

I read all of this just now today before writing this, also Ultimates #1-3 and Web Warriors #1-3 since I hadn't read those the prior months! Now on to my DC stuff. I will write posts like this for DC starting March when I've caught up with EVERYTHING happening. (I stopped reading comics when Futures End rolled around a while back and I've just now come back so I've been binge reading both Marvel/DC rigorously this past month to be up-to-date with it all!)

Hope you enjoy my thoughts and share yours if you please.

**SOME SPOILERS BEWARE**

Extraordinary X-Men #5

No Caption Provided

This issue was great. Storm established the goals of the X-Men in this new generation, Logan has found (unwillingly) a home and all seems well. I'm generally quite content with this X-Men lineup, more so probably than that of "All-New X-Men". Old Man Logan here is also one I'm softening up to, I really do feel like it's nice having someone different here. He's lost so much and finding a new family is sweet. I'm not on the hate train for this character. All I can say is this comic is delivering month after month! Oh, and we're getting another issue in just 2 weeks! Awesome.

All-New X-Men #3

No Caption Provided

Speak of the devil, and I have to cover it next. All-New X-Men is... interesting. I like X-23 or "Wolverine" being on the team, I'm okay with Beast and whoever Ice/Fire lady is (sorry my mutant name knowledge has been significantly hampered since I stopped reading X-Men comics back when I stopped playing X-Men Legends II: Rise of Apocalypse, religiously, yes with mods) and I like Cyclops being back and setting out to rid his name of the dirt it's associated with. As this goes I think the comic is off to an "okay" start. It's not bad or uninteresting at all it's just not gung-ho either. The team is established now and their goal is in sights, what happens next well that'll judge whether or not this will be worth the money every month. I'm excited at least.

X-Men: Worst X-Man Ever #2

No Caption Provided

One of my new favorite reads of the year alongside Superman: American Alien and Rocket Raccoon and Groot! This issue followed up on the pretty-darned-amusingly-crazy first issue and did a really really good job! Super entertaining, intriguing and the cliffhanger had me smiling. I mean when you can take one of, if not, the most useless mutant to have ever "mutated" (pun totally intended) and make him this interesting. Well let's just say that's an art and it needs appreciating. Pick this up already! It's only going to last 5-issues *tears*.

All-New Wolverine #4

No Caption Provided

I don't know about you guys but I L-O-V-E X-23 as Wolverine. She really does honor Logan and it shows in her conversations with Doctor Strange. This is someone who doesn't know what she's doing but knows why she has to do it and it's marvelous. We need more Wolverine + Marvel universe, it was really neat to see. This comic continues to be one of the most satisfying reads of the month. One of the best for sure. Not to mention the subtle Narnia references, you don't get much better than that!

Now that we've covered the X-Men related titles, unto the other stuff!

Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. #1

No Caption Provided

I'd like to say I like to kick things off with the first issue of something but since this is the first of (hopefully) many posts like this, I can't say that yet. This issue did a splendid job at showing what makes this different from the tv show. If I MAY (haha) say so myself, a lot was different. Many things which will be near shocking to fans of the show. I do think that it did some good things, but I also think as first issues go there were somethings it should've done better as well. Let's get into it.

This did an amazing job at differentiating itself from the tv show in that it crossed over with the big guys from Marvel. First issue and we see Tony Stark crawling in looking for help something that probably won't happen until Season 9 of the show. Fitz here has major balls already! No, he didn't get them being thrown into the ocean by someone he considered a brother, or traveling the world to save the love of his life. We actually don't know why this Fitz is the way he is but he actually asked May out on a date, and he's sparring with her?! Who is this guy? Jemma is dying. That's interesting enough to keep me staying, oh and we now know why Coulson's Lola is called Lola.

The bad; the team dynamic wasn't quite what we saw in Karnak #1 but that was expected since they only have so many panels to establish these characters (another thing they didn't do so well). They managed to really establish some characters, but hopefully they get into it with the others left behind and start explaining somethings. For example what was Mockingbird doing here when she works for Fury, what's Daisy's story in this and just what kind of person is Jemma here. We got to know Coulson, May and Fitz fairly well but the others where barely in this issue.

Rant over. (this is because it was the first issue, I'll do that then)

All-New, All-Different Avengers #3

No Caption Provided

Avengers Assemble! Other than that happening nothing really of significance happened. Yeah, bad guy was taken out (the apprentice, not the master ofc) and the team got together. Good lineup with Iron Man in the lead but I'm not really feeling this comic yet. I felt the same about Avengers when NOW! started and that turned out great but we'll see how this goes. I'll continue reading it and mentioning it but so far I'm not impressed.

All-New Hawkeye #3

No Caption Provided

I just need to kick this off by saying I kind of hate this cover.. Sorry if you liked it. The issue itself was really decent. The whole Hawkeye/Hawkeye vs SHIELD was interesting but they spoiled the fact that 30 years later Maria Hill is still alive (good job there Hawkeye), just kidding! It was fun but as interesting as old Bishop and Barton are I'm way more interested in the present versions of them. I'd like to see what eventually lead to their split but I'm not fond of the idea that Clint might retire. I do like Bishop but Barton is my Hawkeye, don't make him leave. That's all I ask really and if it happens I'll still stick around of course. I just would prefer that not to be the case. Just look at the Hawkeye comics we got back just before "All-New Hawkeye" started. Clint doing what Clint does best and boy, oh boy was it amazing.

Mighty Thor #3

No Caption Provided

Jane Foster is growing on me, and this Loki is probably my favorite comic-incarnation. Mighty Thor is shaping up to be a great story and I'm really intrigued. It's not often a comic can make both the main plot and the side one equally interesting but the things happening in Asgard are really interesting and what's going on with Foster's personal problems (cancer) and her duties interfering with each other is such a clever way of tying it all together. Loving this series right now and hopefully they keep it up. I do wish Malekith could be made more of a menace. It's not enough he can just invade a world, stand around a look menacing. Make this guy a threat to be remembered! The movie couldn't do it so let's hope the comics can for the new readers.

Scarlet Witch #2

No Caption Provided

The communistic themed cover art is incredible. That's about the only good thing about this issue. Ouch. I hated the art, the story is dull, too much narration and it all feels too "easy". Scarlet Witch is powerful yes, but when she can just stand around and problems solve themselves.. well I feel like throwing my issue (if it weren't for the cover) in the trash to be honest. If I see this art in the next issue I'm dropping this.

Guardians of the Galaxy #4

No Caption Provided

I'll say it here and now, I didn't really think the movie was anything special. There. However! This comic is phenomenal, and this is coming from someone who never really enjoyed the "cosmic" side of Marvel comics and I still don't for the DC ones. This series is off to a great start and the new GotG team is just perfect! Kitty Pryde is great, Peter Quill has his own series (which is great) so I really don't think his presence is needed but Kitty + Peter as a couple would be really interesting to see play out. I can't wait for Gamora's solo run coming out in a couple months (she's a badass)! Just read this if you haven't. It's not the movie, but if you liked the movie you'll love this nevertheless.

Uncanny Avengers #4

No Caption Provided

I've made it clear that I feel as though Duggan has lost interesting in Deadpool, very clear in fact yet here he seems to have done a splendid job.. just not with Deadpool. He's still not at all funny, just like in his solo series (which is awful) but the team and the villain worked really well here and now we have CABLE on the team! That's pretty darned cool. The line up is looking great and if the cover art teased for the next issue is any indication this comic might just turn out to be really good sooner than later. I'm just saying that because I'm the biggest Gambit fanboy. Yeah, he was on the cover (in his original outfit and not that eye-bleeding X-Factor one) for the next issue and man I do so miss my cajun-french thief mutant. Him and Rogue = interest peaked. One thing I still hate about this (aside from Duggan's Deadpool) is Quicksilver's new outfit. It's God-awful.

Web Warriors #3

No Caption Provided

The cover is great. That's about it. I mean the only reason I'm reading this is because of Spider-Man Noir but since there's barely any panel-time for him I'll probably be dropping this next month. I've seen a lot of discontent for this particular title and I totally understand. Spider-Gwen can't save this one, it's just not very good at all.

Ultimates #3

No Caption Provided

This series here takes its title seriously. In 2 issues it's managed to change frickin' GALACTUS as we know him into something entirely different. Wow. Not just that but Black Panther is awesome, Captain Marvel is just perfect for the team and I'm a fan. I didn't think I would be because when issue #1 started it was exposition that nearly put me to sleep. Just a couple pages later and I was hooked. Hopefully this comic doesn't falter and stumble later but as of right now it's sprinting almost as fast as BP in the Civil War trailer from the looks of it.

Silk #3

No Caption Provided

THIS. is what Amazing Spider-Man should be. Familiar, quirky, funny, exciting (haha), and just good, basically. Yeah, I'm not a fan of what Parker is up to at the moment and seeing him here however was quite pleasant. Assured us that this is a character that we should care about. Goblin Nation is familiar (something the Amazing Spider-Man title is severely missing, familiarity) and it's really really good. I'm not sold on Silk herself, like a female Parker with a very different backstory but still what's happening all around her is so good it doesn't matter, for now.

Captain America: Sam Wilson #5

No Caption Provided

Serpent Society is a bore. Captain America is tied to a chair. Still a wolf. Does nothing. And there's a new Falcon... Fun. I don't like this comic at all (that obvious?). It's really boring and I don't much care about what's happening with Sam. Unless an interesting villain appears or Misty Knight jumps out of the pages to whop my ass, I see myself dropping this by the time #10 rolls around.

Thank you so much for reading. See you next week.
