@TheHulk: Your points are excellent, Hulk and I can not figure out why you are getting such crummy feedbacks. Are the people in this site children? Only children wouldn't know the difference in cost and spending unless they ask their parents and then their grandparents. Everyone who are adult enough should know the two major reasons of your rant. And two of them being the one reason. 100 sub reasons / 10 reasons / 2 major reasons and all those reasons are tied up to just one reason.
The construction time of our building methods now do not make the process slower so I'm calling BS for anyone saying the methods now for constructing a building is slower. It is fact, that with the technology of our generation right now, that we are able to build buildings faster and more efficient than they did 50 years ago. China for example is currently building the world's tallest skyscraper and they are planning to finish this building within a matter of 90 days!
I doubt that Chinese building would stand high magnitude quakes.
We don't know that for sure. China does have high magnitude earthquakes so I'm sure its standard issue for them, but they build their skyscrapers by the "lego" method. But of course they're not just stacking blocks without some method of preventing the blocks from tumbling down. As for someone saying that the twin towers was faulty and needed to be reinforced during the years is false. The twin towers were the most effective method of building high rising towers until the Burj Khalifa. The only time they reinforced the building was after the 1st bombing during the early 90's and the only part they reinforced was the sub-basements/underground parking lot. They didn't reinforce anything of the building structure itself. In fact, all they attempted on doing was removing the asbestos from the old fire retardant.
