I hated the original trilogy, the only X-men movie i've enjoyed was First Class...then this hack had to get back in the directors chair...

I've been wondering about this. This would have been a great opportunity for characters like Rachel Summers and Franklin Richards to have a big role in the movie universe, but since they are not really bringing in the main characters from the comics, this is going to be tough in getting new X-Men characters into the X-Men universe.

Is this the synopsis for the comic or movie?

In the comics, besides being a great story in and of itself (and I think the first X-men story without Cyclops?), it stands out in a few ways: it's the first time Kitty is in a major role, it's the first time we really see Storm as the leader, first time we see Wolverine exercise genuine restraint in a fight, first time the X-men face Mystique's Brotherhood, and the first Magneto on the side of the angels.

There's something like 20 different mutants in those two issues, but for the point of the story, most of them aren't particularly important. Why is Angel even there?

We already know that Xavier, Magneto, and probably Mystique will have more important roles than in the original, and I think that's great; we know Kitty's in it, and she's supposed to be the main character, so that looks good, and Wolverine, so, right on.. after that, the other characters are really not that important to the story.

I don't think replacing Nightcrawller, Colossus, Angel, the other members of the Brotherhood (although I do hope we see Destiny), Franklin, or even Rachel with characters from the other movies would necessarily hurt what's really good about the story, so long as the main characters are still in their conceived roles.

Days of Future Past is one of the classic X-men stories that basically transcends the X-men themselves, while at the same time defining their purpose (it's basically like the Terminator, except they didn't have Nimrod show up until a few years later); the cast is largely interchangeable, and from what we already know, they are working with the key characters anyway.

True. Now tell me it wasn't true to the source material. Did it deliver the same message, just as effectively? Were the characters functionally the same? Did the moments hit just as hard? Tell me, despite the differences, in what way was it not true to the source material?

First Class was brilliant on a lot of levels, I was actually hoping they just did a straight sequel, however I imagine the success of the Avengers forced their hand and they had to incorporate more characters and things like that into the upcoming movie. It always comes down to money and politics

I think it would have been better if this movie just had the characters from First Class rather than add in more new characters since it would confuse anyone who hasn't seen First Class. But like you said, it's all about money and people do want to see their favorite characters show up on the screen.

Yes sir. Best example ever: Spider-Man 3, Raimi actually had a very different story with just Sandman and New Goblin. However, the fans bitched and moaned until the studio decided to put Venom int the movie........then the fans hated it....lulz.

Yeah! Just think how different the movie would have been if Venom was never featured in it. I think the story would have been less convoluted if they only stuck with one or two villains instead of having three villains with different story lines.

You can't read Watchmen in two hours, which is probably why they didn't spend much time treating it like a mystery, which is originally what it was.

And, as it's been said, as far as we know, pretty much the entire cast is returning to previously established roles, meaning, like in the source material, they don't need to be introduced or explored beyond the necessities of the story.

I think it has a fair chance of doing just fine.

Oh yeah, I am not doubting it. Bryan Singer is a great writer and director and his X-men films were basically the catalyst for the comic movie genre becoming so popular. I have complete faith in the film at this point. I am just saying I would have liked to see something that just focused on a smaller cast. yeah, probably. I just hope Kitty gets a main role; this was the story that first really defined her and, in my mind, it will always be her story.

IMO they just need to do a reboot altogether. Go back to the real origin of Xavier and Magneto and the first five's struggles with powers manifesting and the formation of the team.

In my little mind I just pretend the movies and comics are in separate universes. It makes things much much easier and it saves me from frustration and disappointment.

I don't care what anyone says, it's the only way I can enjoy both the movies and comics and not get upset about it.

I really think this is the best attitude to take with this.

It is just a different interpretation of the story; no one seems to get upset about Ultimate comics or the cartoons or any of the other alternate versions, so I've never really understood why people get so fussed about the movies.

Nothing will hinder my excitement for this movie. TBH, I think that with some clever writing, they could fix the continuity errors.

I also tend to look at the movie universe as being separate from the comics. It helps makes it easier for me to accept the movies for what they are rather than whether or not they were being faithful to the comics. It's surprising to me also how the movies get more flack for being unfaithful rather than the cartoons and the alternative universes which easily changes everything from the comics, but rarely get criticism about it.

I thought X2 was good, X1 was decent for the time and for kids it's still entertaining. X3 was what it was =_= lol Don't need to explain that one

First class I really enjoyed but emma was awful and it felt a little rushed(wish it was maybe 30minutes longer and set over a longer period of time)

Biggest issue with first class was the magneto and xavier relationship =__= it was just a bromance that lasted less than a minute in the grand scheme of their lives

I agree that the performance of Emma Frost in First Class was a bit terrible since she acted so stoic. Also, I felt that the second half was rushed too, especially when some of the X-Men member suddenly joined the villains without a logical explanation.

I am expecting nothing from the movie whatsoever. Outside of hopefully Rogue being played the way she should and with Anna Paquin confirmed for the reprisal of the role, I might not be disappointed.

Whoa wait hold up F. Richards in this movie? When did the X-men and Fantastic 4 movies share the same universe?

They haven't, but he is in the original story, and Fox does own the movie rights to both.

This could be a very elegant way to establish the idea of a shared universe for them.

i dono, im excited for the movie. i know right off the bat that it wont be page for page DofP, but at the same time im jus excited to see the X-men(past and future), i cant wait to see some Sentinels walkin around. i think its unrealistic to expect the movie to be the same as the comic, some thing jus dont translate, and others jus get passed over, it happens.

the cast looks good, the source material is great, so i say bring it on. if i dont like parts of it i'll wait til AFTERthe movie comes out to voice my points... but something tells me a bunch of people will beat me to it

I don't want to see a verbatim copy of Days of Future's Past cause I've already seen it and I don't believe that Hollywood could even come close to the comic. I like it as the basis of a movie but I want to see something new
